The waiter who brought over our drinks dropped the tray which had a pint of lemonade on it - this splashed over one of our party's jacket, hair and face. In the main, the food was very nice, and the pork was delicious, however a couple of us found the gravy a little salty. Two of us had finished our meals and one person was still eating when one of the waiters started clearing plates - this is something that really frustrates me, plates shouldn't be cleared until everybody in the party is finished. When the bill arrived, the lemonade had been taken off but a service charge had been added to the bill, which I thought was a bit thoughtless considering earlier events. Generous portions and overall delicious. From street level up the stairs you are greeted with a take away counter for loads of baked treat and bread which look and smell amazing. You then have a small hallway with bench seating where the coffee are made which did get a little congested as it’s so popular. We did book which I thoroughly recommend to not have to wait for a table. The dining room is large. Bright and airy with high ceilings, loads of green succulents and gallery walls. Current exhibition is a photography collection of black culture in the UK. Lots of bench style seating down the middle which means you may share the bench with others (something which never bothers me) The service speed is what lets the venue down. The coffee is excellent but always takes a long time to come. This has been a consistent issue with all my visits. The food is delicious. Beautifully cooked and seasoned. Though offering black pepper from a mill and not powered would be expected in a place like this. Overall it’s great with slightly nonchalant service. Book ahead and make sure you have a hearty appetite.

The breakfast was supposed to include ‘wilted spinach’ but actually had a tiny handful of fresh spinach leaves. There was a half, a bordering on cherry-sized, tomato, and a very small amount of mushrooms. Tomatoes and mushrooms are relatively cheap ingredients so I don’t understand why they are so stingy with the portions. On the plus side the vegan sausages were very nice, as were the hash browns. The coffee was great. Looking at other customers’ plates I suspect that the meat eaters get better value for money. I enjoyed the experience but it would be nice if somewhere in South Birmingham could provide a quality English breakfast for plant-based eaters.

We were mopping up every last ounce of the sauce with the garlic flatbread; we nearly wore a hole into the plate 😆 The cod and pepper croquettes were generously filled with fish, rather than filled out with potato. They were delicately seasoned so the fish could shine and we wanted a bucket full. The burger looked pretty basic, but then we took a bite…the Manchego was nutty and slightly sweet, perfectly complimenting the salty Serrano ham. It tasted homemade and authentic. It was quiet during our visit, so even though I hate the phrase because people are saying it about everything, I’m going to say it…the venue might be well known, but the brunch is a 💎 hidden gem 💎 It was fantastic for us too as Cuba Libres are a much more appealing option than sugary cocktails. They were also super accommodating and let my mum have vodka instead of rum ☺️ it’s the little touches. What an amazing young group of talented singers and musicians. They played some great tunes and really got the party started. Amazing night. The food is definitely 2025 - we had the sandwiches and seriously, they were the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot of sandwiches in my time!) My friend who is Australian and a self confessed coffee snob said it was the best coffee she'd had on her visit to the UK!
