I’ve wanted to try this place for years after hearing nothing but great things. After a big lunch here, I certainly understand the praise.
Unique pizzas that are clearly thoughtfully crafted (lemon zest crust?!). Friendly and attentive service and a really welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
I’ll be raving about it like the others and I’ll be back!
Really good pizza. The outdoor seating area was cozy and vibrant. It's a counter service restaurant, meaning you order your food and drinks at the counter, then a runner brings your food order to where you sit when it's ready. You're on your own after that. Despite this, they still prompt you for a tip at every purchase while you do the heavy lifting... strange. Anyway, you could do worse for a quick bite and a drink while passing through Fruita, CO.
Rolled into Hot Tomato solo, close to closing, expecting to feel awkward—pizza joints like this usually buzz with big energy. But instead? No weird vibes. No rush. Just reggae low in the background.
I got the cheese slice—because if you can’t get that right, what are we even doing? They got it right. Chewy crust, sauce that tastes like someone gave a damn, and cheese that’s rich, melty, and exactly what I was hoping for.
The staff? Not fake-friendly—just cool. Like they rode all day, then strolled into the kitchen still sun-warmed and smiling. Fast, easygoing, and genuinely kind. The kind of people who’d help you fix a flat and hand you a slice.
Hot Tomato’s not trying to impress anyone. That’s exactly why it does.
