We went for a hen do from London. The other Caribbean restart I initially made a reservation were unorganised and lost my details and were fully booked. I called up this restaurant last minute and although they were busy they took me and the girls with open arms. The food is amazing, definitely recommend the garlic giant prawns. The portions are a decent size too. I had the medley delight. Tasted amazing. I was so full I didn't get to try the sexy punch I initially wanted at the beginning. When I'm next up in Birmingham I'll definitely be there again. In the mean time they should consider opening up a branch in London!
Tables were booked in advanced for a group of 6 to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. Small venue but we were welcomed and seated in a polite manner. Food and drinks were ordered and arrived in a timely fashion. Although starter and main portions were questionable, they also seemed to lack that authentic Jamacian taste, as told by our Jamacian friend. Price is subjective but the portions could have been bit bigger given the price tag. We were all enjoying the occasion until the waiter came and kindly asked us if he could take one of our tables and swap it for a smaller one to seat some new customers whilst he could see one of our friends was still eating, which seemed unprofessional. However, we didn't wish to make an issue over it at the time and let him rearrange the tables. About 5 mins after paying the bill one of the waitresses came along and asked if we could kindly leave and make way for new customers. That seemed a bit unexpected and rude, which left most of us annoyed but we quietly made for the exit to enjoy the birthday somewhere else. With regards to the food, which was a new experience for some of us, we were hoping a bit more heat but our Jamaican friend was not impressed and said the food wasn't that great in his cultural experience. Although the gentleman apologised for moving the tables we weren't offered a discount of any sort or free drinks or desserts for the discomfort caused. We hope to try a different carribrean restaurant for a better experience.
NEVER AGAIN!
Firstly the owner tried to sit us in the front of house which was like a cafe, until we said we wanted to go in the back which was an interesting looking restaurant. We ordered 2 starters between the four of us and a main, the one starter was king prawns which we received 3 prawns and took 20mins, I wouldn't mind but there was only 4 other people in the restaurant. The mains were very basic, the flying fish was dry and covered in BBQ sauce. The male toliet smelled like a sewer.
Overall the portions were small, well over-priced, average at best and slow service. I wouldn't come here again.
