Refined bistro fare with global influences in a serene country-house setting at the Hotel Limpia.
We had excellent service, delicious food and full tummies after. I would highly recommend coming especially if you are from out of town. My husband had the breakfast burger and I had the best chicken fried steak ever. The chicken fried steak would have been plenty to share a plate. For drinks we had the spicy margarita and the blushing cowboy.

I wanted really bad to give this place 5 stars. I love the look of the place with indoor and outdoor options. There were tables, booths, and a bar indoors. Outdoors had shade and sun, and it felt like it could have a breeze. As to the food, the fish and chips were great. The fires were fresh, but they could use a double fry, so they are more crisp. I did their brisket cheese fries that sounded amazing, but the fries were too soggy, and the cheese was not the best quality for it. I would also say the brisket was too dry. We also had the enchiladas, and they were on par with fast food. I think the burgers and steaks at the tables around us looked great. The service was okay, but they were swamped. So, I'll sum this up to say, if you're in town for more than one meal, give them a try, but maybe focus on the fish and burgers. I did like the drink specials. My beer was cheaper than the tea. :)

As you can see, I loved the buffalo wings. 🤣😂🤣 My wife and I really enjoyed the brisket tacos. Top 10 we’ve had. (My wife said, they were phenomenal!”) Would totally eat here again the next time we are in Fort Davis. Our server, Faith, was exactly what we needed. The perfect balance of service and letting us talk. She’s awesome.
Simon S — Google review
Came to Fort Davis for some work and stopped in with the work crew. Very impressed with the atmosphere and food presentation. To break the ice, we asked our server if he knew any magic tricks and he brought another server (Christopher )who did! Our server (Robert) was cordial, however he was very overwhelmed with too many tables. Something very noticeable was the lack of management presence to help the server staff catch up on drink refills and make sure guests were satisfied. The food was still very good and I think they did the best they could considering. Our server wrote us a pretty great haiku for us. In an upscale restaurant like this, management absolutely needs to be present on the floor to ensure prompt service.

We asked if we could sit outside and they said yes. We ordered for two and only got served for one? The brisket tacos were cold and no napkins were given. I let the young lady know of her misunderstanding and she immediately corrected it and came back with another order of the same and no napkins ? I said I know we are in the middle of nowhere BUT you must know that napkins are needed. She went inside and sent someone else out with the napkins. Then she came back later with a fresh order of tacos which we refused because we were done and ready to go. What was suppose to be a nice evening turned out to be sour and a little disappointing to say the least! I will never be back here again.
Velma G — Google review
Fantasic waiter and service. Right in tiny downtown Fort Davis. Next door to Limpia Hotel. Across the street from Harvard Hotel and Butterfield Inn. Has an indoor bar. The enchiladas were fantastic. The Alfredo pasta was off. Will definitely try again.
Deborah H — Google review
There are limited dining options in Fort Davis TX and from the outside, we thought this looked like a good place to sit down and have a nice dinner, nope: 1. Limited menu, 2. One order was chicken tenders- they were not cooked fresh, lukewarm, soggy cold French fries, 3. 2nd order was the smash burger that consisted of two very flat burgers, two thinly sliced pieces of tomato’s, onions, & pickles, with one small piece of lettuce. NOTE~ the waitress didn’t write down any of our orders and brought me a chicken plate of some kind. She returned it to the kitchen and my burger and fries were out in five minutes! It wasn’t freshly prepared and again, the fries were less than desirable. 4. The 3rd order was a caprese salad, and that was the only decent meal served. There is a little market/deli up the street…..go there….spend your money and time wisely.

Great options! I think the menu may change throughout the seasons. This is a great choice to eat. We were only in Fort Davis for the evening, and I think we made the right choice choosing Blue Mountain Bar and Grill. I recommend coming here for an early dinner before the star party at the McDonald Observatory. We were seated immediately, and we chose outside dining. It took maybe 35 minutes before any server stopped by our table to greet us and we weren’t told about the wait from the host…so that was a bit disheartening…especially when the servers first went to tables of the same size who were seated after us. However, it did seem like the restaurant was super busy. Just our experience. I still recommend the restaurant if you’re visiting!

Coffee shop
Double Shot Coffee Lounge is a charming spot located in the historic Hotel Limpia, which also houses the Blue Mountain Bar and Grill. The cafe offers specialty coffee and delicious breakfast plates, with warm and accommodating service from Michelle and her staff. Guests can enjoy Mexican breakfasts at Lupitas Place across the street or grab a green-chile-cheeseburger-and-fried-okra at Fort Davis Drug Store nearby.
We stopped here early in the morning right after they opened for the day. The lady was super friendly and made great coffee recommendations. I wasn’t sure what I wanted and after she asked a few questions she came up with a great coffee that was just perfect! The space is a little empty but we attributed it to being the very first customers. We sat down and had great conversation with the lady who made our coffees. We don’t eat breakfast so we can’t comment on any food items. However the pastries that were there did look good. I would definitely recommend!!!!
Patricia G — Google review
I love getting my coffee here! Always tastes amazing and the lady serving always is working so hard every time i go in! Always a smile and you can tell she enjoys what she does! During the 4th of July weekend she had a very long line and down to one machine. She kept working hard to serve as fast as she could and was very nice in letting everyone know about the wait and apologizing for it! Definitely one of my favorite shops!

Great place to grab speciality coffee in Fort Davis! Michelle and her staff were extremely accommodating when cycle fest got rained out! Their breakfast plates are amazing and the hash browns are delicious. We appreciate the warm customer service and we will be back next year!
Sarah S — Google review
This is a weird place. There were no other customers, either time we went. They do have coffees (my latte was fine) but only a couple of food choices, danish or danish, and very few of those (obviously not locally made). The service was ok but I thought the lady didn't really want to be there.
Dawn M — Google review
Yesterday...I woke up got dressed. The wife and I said let's go to the coffee shop. We did my wife ordered carnal macciato and as for I the hot latte with soy and coconut....I got sadness in a cup. Never knew you could actually taste sadness and wasn't even hot sadness. Both drinks were like warm and tasted like warmed up watered down baby formula.....sadness to go was what we had. Also the lady really didn't seem like wanted us to be there....that you ain't from round these parts vibe so goin get vibe.

If you’re planning to get some breakfast and caffeine to start your long day of exploring Fort Davis, Davis Mountains State Park and McDonald Observatory, don’t include this place in your plans. The hours on the sign are fictional and you’ll be eating at the grocery store instead. We drove back by at 0845 Wednesday and they still weren’t open.

I was pleasantly surprised that Ft. Davis’s Double Shot Coffee Lounge could actually compete with many cafes in larger cities. Plenty of seating inside, very clean, great service.

Stone Village Market is a small convenience store in Fort Davis that offers fresh-sliced sandwiches and organic goods, making it like a miniature Whole Foods in the desert. The market has a casual atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating on a covered patio. It opens early, serving hot coffee and breakfast burritos. Visitors can enjoy delicious deli sandwiches expertly made, along with a great selection of healthy fare and pantry staples.
Stopped by this grocery store before leaving Fort Davis and grabbed a sandwich, salad, and coffee. I got the cranberry, almond, and chicken salad, and my companion had the chicken Swiss sandwich. I loved the salad and finished it in no time! And their coffee… wow, it’s really good. If you need fresh food or supplies, definitely check this place out!

I had the best time here. It’s so genuine and so cute I felt like I was a country girl getting off my shift at the ranch. The “Rachel” sandwich was SOOOO delish 10/10 recommend. The caprese salad had such a juicy tomato I almost shed a tear. Also small shout out to Caleb’s name shirt, who needs name tags anyways?

As a Hispanic woman: wonderful breakfast biscuit sandwiches and croissant sandwiches. Coffee was out of this world delicious (Big Bend Roasters) Good people, good vibes, good food. Cinnamon roll had that crispy icing and soft bread omg so delicious. 10/10 recommend, will stop here again.

Mexican restaurant
Nestled in a charming rock building adorned with vibrant marigold walls, Lupita's Place is a delightful culinary stop that captures the essence of Mexican breakfasts. With tables draped in red oilcloth and an inviting atmosphere, this eatery serves up mouthwatering dishes like savory chilaquiles verde and the renowned Asado burrito, which features tender pork simmered in rich red chili—a true local staple.
The food was amazing, and quite possibly some of the best Mexican style breakfast I’ve ever had! I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the eggs tasted fresh, not store bought. Guacamole was also made fresh and the verde sauce was amazing. 👏
Heidi R — Google review
One of the few options in town. They don’t take credit cards but they do Venmo. Simple but cozy, clean and service was fast. We ordered beef tacos and Chille Relleno. Food was good, and we will certainly go back when visiting town. No alcohol beverages available.

Wow, this is where I'd go if I only had time to eat at just one place in Fort Davis. We had breakfast, and it was great. The faces were friendly, and the place had a family feel. We had the pancakes, eggs, bacon, burrito, and this breakfast plate. I can't remember what it was called, but yum... Look at the photo. It consisted of tortilla strips, eggs, onions, peppers, and hashbrowns. It was like a deconstructed midas tacos.
J M — Google review
Breakfast was great! Chilaquiles, and Pancakes with eggs and hash browns. They are cash only, but do have the option to Venmo.

Stopped in for breakfast while in the Fort Davis area. Good-sized and tasty breakfast burritos. Fresh scratch-made green and red salsas with a nice balance between flavor and mild/medium heat to my palette. The place is super clean with a nice staff providing counter service. Indoor seating as well as outside picnic tables. Cash only. Would definitely stop again.
Dan G — Google review
Coming through here on a Sunday afternoon it’s one of the only two places open- until 3 pm. They serve American and Mexican food – until they run out. Cash only-no plastic. Brisket tacos had a lot of fat and very bland. Avocado hamburger was freshly made. The burger was mushy, and the shoestring fries were cold - probably because they were sitting in the window waiting awhile to be delivered. I had to walk up to get our food. A cook and server/cashier manning the joint. Inside seats about 30. Outside has a decent sitting area. Fountain drinks had a good syrup ratio. Water had a good taste, too. Happy they were open.

Ice cream shop
Jon's Caboose Ice Cream Shop & More is a must-visit spot in Fort Davis, Texas. Housed inside a bright green caboose, this charming shop offers over two dozen varieties of Blue Bell ice cream, including waffle cones, regular cones, shakes, and malts. The outdoor patio provides a pleasant setting to enjoy the treats. Visitors appreciate the reasonable prices and generous portions. It's an ideal place to cool off after a day of sightseeing in Fort Davis.
Super cute, kindest staff, AND if i recall correctly.. they DO offer mil discount ♡ Enough space to hang out around the area with a crew 😊
Renee — Google review
Blue Bell ice cream served from inside an old train caboose. Waffle cones, regular cones, shakes and malts. Simple roadside stop. Nice little outdoor patio. I see some complaints about prices, I thought it was very reasonable. I had a 16 ounce chocolate malt for 6 bucks. Easily had 3 good Scoops in it. My teen daughters had waffle cones with two scoops and it was more than they could eat. For Blue Bell the price is fair and the space is fun. Choo-choo-choose it!
Dan G — Google review
We really like this place! The iced cream selection is wonderful and the quality is very high. I would love to give this place five stars, but they have no restroom and there is none within walking distance, which can make it rather difficult to wash up the sticky babies.
Stephen P — Google review
I love trains, so anything to do with a train is a must do for me. My son loves trains and ice cream, so this was a must see for him as well. We experienced friendly service and my husband as well as my son loved their ice cream. Husband had pistachio and son had cotton candy. I’d recommend it and I’m sure we’ll stop by again. Please check out our video coverage of this location on Hammocks to Coasters on YouTube.

Fun. Unique. Good ice cream. Good prices for quantity.
Marcus S — Google review
The ice cream itself is fairly priced, they have most blue bell flavors here. The caboose is very cute and definitely makes for a good photo op. The service is super hit or miss. One day, the employees there looked like they wanted to die and the next it was mediocre. Fort Davis is a cute west Texas town and this place is somewhere you should stop at but just be aware that you might have to deal with some unenthusiastic teenagers working there.
Ulyses Y — Google review
A casual, fun place to pick your favorite snack from around two dozen flavors of Blue Bell ice cream. A retired caboose is the perfect place to wander through and choose your dessert in. The courtyard outside offers seating areas and some games for all ages. Stop in the antique shop next door for some finds.
Pam V — Google review
Can't go wrong with Blue Bell ice-cream in Texas, eh? To their credit, they had more than two dozen varieties on offer. There are no excuses about running short on any variety - they literally "run" next door to get a replenishment bucket. The plain waffle was nice. But no mix-ins were on offer. Like the idea to "force" customers to go outside and use the patio stone furniture as intended. There are some things to let kids enjoy themselves. All in all a satisfying and pleasant experience.

Fort Davis National Historic Site is a well-preserved former frontier military post that operated from 1854 to 1891. The site features meticulously preserved adobe and brick buildings showcasing artifacts of daily life in a Western fort. Visitors can explore the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute, located nearby, which offers an array of desert-related attractions including an arboretum, greenhouse, mining exhibit, and hiking trail.
Must See !! This Fort has been reconstructed. Their still working to restore, all the structures. You can go in them and see what life on the Frontier looked like in the 1800's !! Also, there is a road that you can view the entire complex from atop the mountains behind it. Probably, need at least a couple of hours to fully see the whole complex

Very informative. My 5 year old loved the Junior Ranger activity. Be advised the visitor center is closed for lunch from noon-1pm so you’ll need to plan accordingly to pay for your admission.

We decided to spend a night in Fort Davis, mainly to attend the Star party at the McDonald’s observatory. During the day we decided to check out Fort Davis National Historic Site . A lot on interesting historical information about the “Wild West’, but also really enjoyed exploring the area, and hiking around the hills and beautiful rock formations. Cool place to visit while in town!
Nadja — Google review
Great place to see some of the American history. This kind of places bring back memories western movies, and you do think they are pretty close to reality. Take it easy as sun is relentless in the site, but stepping into the restored buildings show how much immediate cool you get compare to outside.

The Fort Davis Mountain fort is a serene place for historical memories and learning. Nicely decorated and furnished fort buildings provide the visitor with a detailed view of life at the Fort. Nicely kept paths lead you through the visitor areas to explore areas of 200 years ago. Nestled in the little town of Fort Davis, which is also full of history. The Limpia Hotel, bookstore and many other shops are awaiting your view. Don't forget to stop by the Prude Ranch and McDonalds Observatory. Catching a star party can be stunning on a clear warm Texas night!

This was an unexpected find! We were on a road trip through West Texas and stayed in Ft. Davis en route to Big Bend. We decided to go see the Fort, since we were near by. This place was amazing! So much history, and so much work has been done to restore the fort to what it was. Plus I saw my first live tarantula in the wild.

Park
Davis Mountains State Park Headquarters is a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking, biking, and camping in a picturesque setting. The park's landscape was shaped by volcanic activity millions of years ago, resulting in the formation of the Davis Mountains. Unlike neighboring mountain ranges, the area is sustained by an extensive network of springs that feed into creeks, creating a lush environment.
We loved this park! The views were amazing! The hosts were very busy keeping the park so clean. We took a tour up at the McDonald Observatory; very cool! The camping sites were very nice and spacious.
Ann B — Google review
A really nice state park with miles of back country trails and the old CCC trail that links to Fort Davis national historic site. Over three days, I had lots of fun hiking all the trails, and also spent some time in the two birding 'blinds'. It was my first time seeing Acorn Woodpeckers and have posted the pic of the pole across from the interpretive center where they are storing their acorns. The two adjacent poles have several woodpecker nests. The park workers were really nice and helpful, and I appreciated the sign-in/sign-out process for the back country, which added a layer of safety for those 12+ mile hikes.

A Peaceful Escape with Stunning Views Davis Mountains State Park is a true Texas gem! If you're looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and take in some absolutely breathtaking scenery, this is it. The hiking trails are well-maintained and offer a great mix of challenge and reward—especially the Skyline Drive Trail, which gives you panoramic views that are worth every step. The wildlife is abundant (we spotted deer and tons of birds), and the starry skies at night are nothing short of magical. Campsites are spacious and clean, and the staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming. The historic Indian Lodge is also a unique bonus—great for those who want comfort with their adventure. Whether you're camping, hiking, stargazing, or just passing through, Davis Mountains State Park offers a peaceful, beautiful escape that’s hard to beat. Definitely a must-visit for nature lovers!

Beautiful views of one of the coolest state parks in Texas! The scenic drive is worth it, any time of day. Make sure you check out both bird blinds / animal observation areas, and take time to appreciate the structures made by the CCC. If you’re lucky you might even see a family of Javelina trotting through! If the Indian Lodge is open, defintely try to stay in the historic part-LBJ and Lady Bird used to stay there too.

What a phenomenal hidden gem off the beaten path. Came here for a campground night- stayed for two! Filled with great trails to hike. Beautiful scenery. Campground is a little tight in some places but it’s my own fault for picking a smaller spot. It had a tree and was perfect though! Site has electric and water. There was full sewer sites too but I didn’t opt for that. The showers were clean and decent- not bad at all. The hikes involve some rocky scrambles so definitely wear proper footwear. Saw a lot of birds and insects. I even saw a tarantula!! No snakes but I’m sure they’re there. Beautiful sky at night. Campground fee is affordable. You pay a day rate if you’re just coming for the day. It’s clean and well maintained as are the trails. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it here. Would’ve stayed longer if I hadn’t been in a time crunch. Staff were super friendly too. The only downside is no cell service- least not for me. Unless I had hiked the top of a mountain. The headquarters/office had free wifi but I needed to walk up there to use it. It was a great way to disconnect !

The knowledgeable staff are passionate about the creatures that inhabit the Chihuahuan Desert and are eager to share their expertise with visitors.
We saw this place on google and wanted to check it out. Make sure you have cash we had just enough thankfully but this is a cash only stop. Once we went in we started to look around there was the kids there saying the snakes names and saying they are always cranky it was kind of cute. I dont want to run into a snake anywhere else but they are all so interesting to look at and see the difference between the different kinds. The lady even said there is over 90 snakes/rattlesnakes. We will be bringing our kids by next time we come through Fort Davis

Cool roadside attraction in Fort Davis with an impressive rattlesnake collection. The guy that owns the place has nearly all venomous snakes of Texas in his collection along with a good amount of out of state snakes and some inverts. It'll take you about 15 minutes to slowly make your way through the entire collection. The place is a bit tourist-trappy but then again so is almost everything in Fort Davis. Worth a stop if you're passing through town though.
Ulyses Y — Google review
Neat little stop in the small town of Fort Davis. The museum is small but has numerous rattlesnakes and a few spiders. There are signs over each snake giving you information. You will most likely hear the rattles. Don't be surprised if you find a couple that lunge towards the glass at you (usually the smaller ones). The lady at the counter was friendly. The experience would have been more fun if there was more interaction with staff (instead of walking around alone feeling an awkward silence). It was still neat though. Admission was $5 for adults.
Alli P — Google review
For five bucks this is worth a stop in. I had an hour to burn between dinner and a star party at the observatory. They have a great collection of snakes, spiders and other things to give you nightmares. All the snakes were easy to view. You could probably spend anywhere from 15 min to an hour depending if you just want to look or read every description.
John W — Google review
Real fun place if you like snakes, especially rattlesnakes. Kinda small, but plenty to look at. Definitely worth the $5 investment.

Very clean kept snakes. Didn't realize there were so many different kinds of rattlesnakes. They did have a couple of non venomous snakes for sale.
Diane K — Google review
Awesome, quirky, a Ft. Davis staple for us. The owner is super knowledgeable and always a good time to conversate with. Last trip in the Mojave was extra spicy which gave me a great opportunity to teach my kid what a defensive stance in a rattle snake looks like. Always worth a stop in to check out the snakes!
Michael B — Google review
Didn't live up to the hype. My review may be biased being born and raised in the desert. But being that we live somewhat close this may have been a spot we visited often. Sorry it just wasn't worth it to me. The room was chilly. I hope the snakes get something more than those tiny enclosures.
