Art Museums
The El Paso Museum of Art showcases a diverse collection in 5 galleries, reflecting the city's American, Mexican, and European heritage. Established in 1959, it has become a prominent cultural institution in West Texas and New Mexico. The museum houses the renowned Kress collection, Spanish Viceroyal art, American works, and an extensive contemporary collection featuring new art from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Mexico.
Loved this free entry museum!! We took our time looking at every piece and it was better than museums we’ve paid for! The Selena features were unexpectedly informative and added an extra personal touch connecting it to such an icon who’s performed in El Paso. Would definitely come again.

Very nice building and very clean. It was easy to get to, only a 10 minute walk from our hotel and it was free admission. The museum itself had some interesting exhibits, but overall I found it boring. It didn’t take long to walk through the whole thing. I felt it wasn’t as captivating as other art museums I’ve been to. But it is worth a visit if you are in the area.

This completely free museum in DownTown El Paso, TX is a MUST GO, you hear me!? There is no point in not going, you have NO REASON to skip this experience because it's ABSOLUTELY FREE! Get your family together, from toddler to waddler, and get yoself out to the museum! It's super inspiring to see art live, in living color, and at scale. It inspires you to keep doing your thing and makes you realize that it takes TIME to create ✨️

What a wonderful and interesting midday concert! Being in a small venue, up close with masterful musicians at Bach’s Lunch is a true treasure. We enjoyed seeing the current exhibits and look forward to the opening of the renovated and improved gallery spaces.

Superb free to visit museum with galleries on two floors. There are exhibits which include the work of young local artists and iconic religious art. However, the two most powerful collections are based on gender motivated violence and of art based on experiences connected to the nearby border, which are both excellent.

Soooo glad we squeezed in a visit after our meetings while we were in El Paso! An amazing little jewel of a museum with a truly varied and moving collection. A must-see! Will visit again my next trip to the area😀
Lara S — Google review
Great museum that is free to visit! There is so much to look at. Definitely a great addition to the community. They have events listed inside for members of the art exhibit. The halls are wide enough that you could comfortably bring children and have them by your side without risking them knocking into anything expensive. We went over a weekend and it was not very busy.
Kayla R — Google review
Today I had a very bad experience at this museum. I went with my family to take pictures of the works. We were carrying some flowers. The woman at the entrance said we couldn't bring them in. I asked if I could leave them there with her and she said no. I asked if there was a trash can or something and she said no. She was rude and had a certain attitude from the start. I said, "Okay," I left, left the flowers outside, and we went back in. We took out our professional camera, which is ours, and she came up to me again to tell me I couldn't take pictures, not even with my cell phone. I said, "Look, they're taking pictures there." She said, "Yes, but you need a permit." But apparently it's only me. Other people don't. So they don't start thinking they can take pictures like I did.

Great state park to visit. Hiked North Franklin Mountain Summit Trail. Parking at the trailhead is somewhat limited. Great views. It is a difficult hike due to loose rocks and elevation change. Recommend!
Tibor T — Google review
My first time there. It's really pretty. I love that it has so many places you can stop and picnic or just rest for a bit and take in all the beauty around you. It's so peaceful out there. But make sure to bring ALOT of water....oh and the staff in the shop are super friendly too.
Denise B — Google review
West Overlook 1 is very scenic with lots of spaces to park. At the southwest corner, trail options are abundant. Only really strenuous near the top. Watch out for spiny plants!
Nick S — Google review
Such a beautiful area with perfect temperatures for these RV sites, but a large RV “UNIT” running a very large generator from 6pm to 10pm and again at 7:30am ruined the joy and serenity of this quiet spot. Maybe this rig should find a site with electric to run whatever he was powering.
Mary G — Google review
I absolutely loved it. This was my first time there, and I'll be going back to visit more trails. I took the Apache Cave Trail this time, and it did not disappoint. Wasn't very difficult, although I wish people wouldn't leave their trash along the trail. Beautiful view, though!
Nash L — Google review
Beautiful and serene! Hiking and bike trails, picnic areas, caves and camping. Don't miss it!
Dia K — Google review
Beautiful state park, great camp sites and trails. We really enjoyed our hike at the Upper Sunset Trail, it's a moderate hike. There are some DRY RV spots available, however, the bathrooms we saw did not have showers. Just fyi. I'm sure there are some on site, but you'll need to call and check. The roads are narrow so if you have a huge RV, I would call ahead and check with local state patk representatives. They have a nice parking area at the entrance of the park that would allow for someone to pull in and exit if necessary with a big RV. Again, I would call ahead. The picnic tables here are beautiful! We observed several spots with shaded eating areas for a small group. Perfect spot to gather with friends and family. Some of the trails seem harder than others but it seems like the park is well maintained for all levels of hiking. Don't forget to stop by the visitor center, they have a really neat display of the entire park 😀 and the staff is super friendly! As a side note... when we visited, it was winter, the highs were in the upper 60's so once we hit the trail, we warmed up quick! But we were comfortable and felt great! I'm sure that in the summer these trails aren't very forgiving, so, make sure you bring plenty of water!!!

Theaters
The Plaza Theatre, originally constructed in the 1930s and restored to its former glory in 2006, is a historic gem located in downtown El Paso. This National Historic Building of Significance offers free tours every Tuesday, allowing visitors to admire its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, mosaic-tiled floors, antique furniture, and a stunning design that creates the illusion of an outdoor courtyard under a starry painted ceiling.
First time here. Beautiful building with an erie vibe. Beetlejuice was a perfect match for the building. I was nearly late back to my seat from intermission. Bartenders were mixing drinks and opening wine, which means long waits. I wish they had a couple of express lines for just water or cokes. I had to buy a handful for my party. My suggestion is to skip the drinks and hydrate before the show and if your a big guy like me, get a walkway or front seat. My poor knees had to angle sideways. Very tight.
Ricky Q — Google review
A beautiful theater, for sure! Sitting is tight and a lot of stair climbing. Seniors will struggle here. Especially if your seats are on the balcony or heading to the restrooms. No elevator that I saw. Cost of drinks, astronomical! A picture I included, has the cost. For the ladies . Make sure you take a small clear bag. Otherwise, you can't take your purse in. The Temptations did not fail.
Oscar B — Google review
Loved every minute of the show, but the location? Well, I can’t complain much, except for the seats. If you’re big or tall, you’ll feel the pinch when people need to pass by—tiny seats with very little legroom. But hey, it’s part of the charm of this cozy little theater, I suppose. My mother is disabled, and their elevator wasn’t working for restroom access. Even when the staff led us to it, we stood there for a while before realizing it wasn’t moving at all. I had to edit the image to remove people from it and added that big planter
Juan M — Google review
The Plaza Theater has great bones as they say. Love the architecture and design. The seats are quite small or made for people narrow of hip. Still a nice venue to catch shows.
Jesse D — Google review
The plaza was refurbished in 2017, and they did a great job. It's beautifully done. The men's bathroom space could be improved a little. I went to see the 50th anniversary of Kansas. If you're a fan of their music, then it's worthwhile. The sound quality was very good. It's not a huge venue, but it seemed to have ample space.
Gary S — Google review
Tonights concert of Little River Band and Three Dog Night was fantastic! Great music and good people all around. On a different note, that Plaza Theater men’s restroom was DISGUSTING and definitely a HEALTH HAZARD. When I walked into the restroom, the floors were saturated with urine and feces with a running urinal and toilet. It was too late to walk out as running water out of the urinal AND the toilet was all over the floor and completely saturated my shoes with urine and feces water. I was sickened by the experience. This post has to be the worst one I’ve ever posted. I thought I’ve seen it all but this experience was the worst. The city of El Paso’s Health Department needs to take a closer look at this issue. Sick, sick, sick.
L H — Google review
It's a lovely theater! I highly recommend it. The only downside is they seat people who arrive 40 minutes late and seat them during the show, which is highly annoying. They need a policy refusing to seat anyone more than 15 minutes late. Seating late comers is rude to other audience members who are watching the show. Other than the people who show up late, it's a fun experience!

Families can enjoy exploring exhibits such as Animals of Africa, Animals of Asia, and Animals of the Americas. The zoo offers Zoo Adventure Programs for both children and adults, along with daily animal encounters featuring sea lions, eagles, monkeys, and more. Additionally, visitors can enjoy family-friendly attractions like a treehouse playground and a water play area.
Beautiful day at the zoo. Most animals were out and the exhibits seemed very open to give animals lots of area to roam. Some areas were undergoing improvements but still was a lot to see.
Ron W — Google review
Always work being done but nevertheless, a very pleasant activity to do with a significant other or family and kids! Some sections were closed off but there was plenty to see! Always a pleasure seeing the beautiful animals in our zoo! Highly recommend going once a year to support!
Josue L — Google review
The El Paso Zoo is a great family-friendly attraction with a good variety of animals, spacious walkways, and fun activities like the splash pad and giraffe feeding, and Canyon Run (for kids, or adults; a climber's paradise). However, it has room for improvement to enhance the visitor experience. The landscaping could use better maintenance, as some areas feel neglected, and adding background music throughout the park would create a more immersive atmosphere. Interactive audio guides at exhibits would also make learning about the animals more engaging. While the zoo offers live shows, they could be more informative and diverse—the bird show, for example, featured only one bird and covered very basic facts of the other animals that they introduced; a tarantula, a snake, and a rabbit. With better landscaping, more interactive experiences, and improved presentations, the El Paso Zoo could become a better attraction, but as it stands, it’s still a nice place to visit for a casual day out with family =)

we bought a family membership today, our daughter was excited to go. I remember our parents brought us here in the early 80's Mona was really happy and this zoo was alive!!! today was sad, i left depressed with my family. i could feel the sorrow in the eyes of the left over creatures in their depleted enviorments. where is the funding really going? we plan to use our membership as a place to go on our family weekend walks. hoping to see improvements soon. some how the zoo was doing better before the city got involved, there are vynal murals that could have been done professionally , and painted murals that look like graffiti vandalism recruited out of tiktok.
3rd S — Google review
Just went and it was a really fun experience. I’m honestly happy that they replaced the elephant with the rhino, that exhibit is much better suited for the latter! The new penguin exhibit is amazing and the animals were very active and content. My only complain is that the lion should not be alone, and they definitely should clean the glass and the water on some of the exhibits. Overall, a great experience for such a small urban Zoo!
Wilmer S — Google review
Beautifu small zoo some parts were under construction still. Loved it but got my boots sticky of the pavement tar stuff. But regardless, I loved the animals. Tiger was my favorite she was sweet and came up to the window.

Loved this zoo. It's smaller than my 'home' zoo. But it was pretty and a variety of animals. I would recommend coming early when they open. It got a lot busier throughout our day there.

History Museums
The El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center is a unique and important destination, offering a bilingual narrative of the WWII genocide. Located in downtown El Paso, it stands as the first Holocaust museum in Texas and the only fully bilingual one in the nation. Founded by local survivors, this museum features moving exhibits that cover life before the Nazis, the rise of the Nazi party, ghettos, concentration camps, and more.
Incredibly powerful and moving experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I was enveloped by the gravity of history, with exhibits that are both educational and deeply emotional. The museum provided a comprehensive look at the atrocities of the Holocaust and the harrowing stories of those affected. The layout of the museum is set up through different rooms that are emotionally impactful. It is a somber experience, but one that leaves a lasting impression and inspires reflection. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about the Holocaust, its survivors, and the importance of remembrance. 5 stars without a doubt.

Great place to get to know about this stories event, I went on a Wednesday and it was free, it's like 5 minutes away from San Jacinto plaza if you go walking

This museum has enlightened me and informed me of the genecide done to the Haitian by the Dominican Republic president Trujillo so he felt obligated to take in Jewish survivors to cover his act in Haiti. Wow I didn’t know
R I — Google review
One of the best hidden gems of El Paso. This museum holds many genuine artifacts from this period of world history. There is some disturbing videos which let you see how terrible Jewish people were treated simply because of their nationality. Luckily, if you do have little ones, you’re able to identify what areas they can and cannot visit as they are labeled with warnings before you enter. Overall 10/10. Facility was very clean, staff was welcoming and it was a very resourceful and educational experience.
Jose V — Google review
Very informative! Takes about an hour to go through. It’s free but take donations and definitely deserves a good donation so bring cash. Came to El Paso to visit from the east coast and a friend suggested this museum I’m happy they did!
Taylor — Google review
Wonderfully done museum with real artifacts. Well done video tour and timeliness as one walks through the holocaust from beginning to end. Includes interactive exhibits as well. The museum is free and accepts donations. They have a good book store and gift shop as well.
Cynthia S — Google review
This museum is very eye opening. You get a feeling as soon as you walk through the double doors. I liked to sit on the bench and listen to each video...it's very quiet. You have time to read. The pictures on display made my heart ache. The personal items made the experience that much more understanding. I respected some of the exhibit was placed behind a half wall for those visitors that might not be age appropriate. I would recommend this museum very much.

L & J Cafe is a historic family-owned restaurant that has been serving authentic regional Mexican cuisine since 1927. The cafe is renowned for its original Mexican-American dishes, such as the molten chile con queso made with roasted green chiles and Wisconsin muenster cheese.
I ate here for brunch on a Sunday. Immediately walking in everyone greeted us and were very friendly. This place looks small but has plenty of sitting and a nice size bar. The food came out really fast. Our waiter (didn't get her name) was on it. She was very helpful and gave us good description of the food. Great place to have brunch. I highly recommend this for the family or just a outing with friends.

This is truly one of THE BEST Mexican restaurants!! The wait was less than 20 minutes on a Sunday! Our server Tony was GREAT!! He answered all of our questions and gave us time to decide without rushing us. You could tell the team enjoyed working together and one of the managers checked on us also!!!! Super friendly and down to earth!! My apologies for not remembering her name! The food was flavorful, hot and didn’t take long to get our order to the table!!! That shows a well organized chef and staff!!! Thank you and I’ll be back!!

L & J Café – A Must-Visit in El Paso If you're ever in El Paso and craving true, authentic Mexican food, L & J Café is an absolute must. You know you're in for something special when the place is packed with locals – and that’s exactly what I walked into. The menu has a wide variety of choices, including solid vegetarian options, which is a nice bonus. I went with the beef enchiladas, and let me tell you, the red sauce was phenomenal. Rich, flavorful, and full of that homemade taste you can’t fake. My son had the steak burrito smothered in queso – this thing was massive, and he devoured every bite like it was his last meal. That burrito alone is worth the trip. The service? Top notch. Friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming. Now, a heads-up: they don’t have a full liquor license, so no hard alcohol, but they do serve beer and wine. And the strawberry wine margaritas? Surprisingly delicious – refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. Bottom line: If you're in El Paso and you don’t hit up L & J Café, you're missing out. This spot is the real deal.

I left thinking about how clean crisp the water tasted. The chips & salsa were fried to order and was excellent as well. The rice was very well made. Every customer will most likely experience these and they make sure they deliver in high quality in these areas. Our food overall was nice. Wait staff were prompt and friendly enough.
Vonzell L — Google review
Great food with amazing service. My friends greatly enjoyed the beers, enchilada, and steak dishes. They have a whole page for vegetarian options, which was great to see. I thought their impossible tacos were a bit dry but decent. Their salsas were all awesome, red was especially spicy. Amazingly priced also.
Jayesh S — Google review
L & J Cafe is an absolute gem! The food was incredibly delicious, bursting with authentic flavors that left me wanting more with every bite. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making me feel right at home. What truly stood out was the extraordinary service. My server was attentive without being intrusive, and I never once had to ask for a refill – they were always one step ahead. It was a truly delightful dining experience, and I can't wait to go back!

We just arrived in El Paso for vacation and made the mistake of making this the first stop on trip. Now we are spoiled! I don’t think any place is going to compare. The food was to die for. You just can’t this type of food in Florida. I highly recommend the green chile chicken enchiladas. The portions are huge too, so we took a lot of it to go. Great food and wonderful, friendly service.
Christina C — Google review
Can't give enough praise about the restaurant. Food was fantastic and a treat for a Michigander like myself whose Mexican restaurants I am used to are probably not as authentic. Good menu that introduced me to dishes I have not had before living in Michigan. They have beer and wine but no cocktails because they lack a liquor license. But the wine infused margaritas are very good. Not in an attractive part of town but I would not let that from stopping you from going. My feeling is it gives you a good feel for the authentic El Paso culture. The restaurant has been there since 1927. I suggest you read the history of the 4th generation family business.

Would definitely recommend and will definitely return!

Family and I all got something we don’t normally order at any other restaurant, and we were glad that we did. My wife got the lobster pasta which was excellent and filling, my teenage son got the duck which he loved, and I got the rack of lamb, which was divine. I’d highly recommend venturing away from what you can get anywhere else; try something you’ve never eaten before. With Cafe Central, you cannot go wrong. We will be coming back for sure.

Just to say amazingly perfect. Everything was literally a 10/10 every dish and everyone who worked there. It was my first time having wagyu and holy **** was it phenominal I mean I sat back in bliss of how much flavor and tenderness there was. It truly made me look beyond the $125 price for the plate 😁. Best dam calamari I've had not sure how they did but it was like cotton candy dissolving in your mouth. Escargot was very good just wish it had cheese on it but it wasn't grainy like your eating sand. Pork loin chop and prime rib where 10/10 but my meal was still better. They had a happy birthday card already on our table which was a nice surprise. The cake at the end was so delicious too.

Upscale dining with dress code. The service is great because of a fine staff. The wine selection is unending, most folks would not be disappointed in the least. We had the seafood platter and escargot for appetizers, followed by individual dishes: scallops, lobster ravioli and salmon and ended with the Chocolate cake for dessert. Your choice for food in El Paso, being in the desert and far as you get from the sea probably shouldn't be ours but if you need a change from steak, this is a great choice. 😋

Los Bandidos De Carlos & Mickey's is a vibrant Tex-Mex restaurant in El Paso, offering an immersive experience with mariachi music and Mexican decor. The menu features a variety of authentic dishes like Burro Wings, Caldo de Res, and Carnitas Pork Tips. Guests can enjoy oversized margaritas and signature cocktails while taking in the Texas sunset from the rooftop bar.
Had lunch here on a Sunday and beat the rush. Daniel did a good job providing service. He did mess up our order a couple of times but i think he knew us better than we knew ourselves. The margaritas have multiple sizes. The Texas size is huge and be prepared to either share or be your only drink. I had the Steak Ranchero and it was basically skirt steak smothered with cheeses and bell peppers. Very good! Make sure you go here with an appetite. The food came out fast and was super hot. Definitely recommend if you are in town for a short visit.

We had an amazing dinner at Carlos and Mickey's! The food was extremely good and the service was impeccable. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed during our stay. I couldn't decide what to get, so selected the Mexico combo platter. I was impressed with the quality of the food and loved how the flavors worked together. Others at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals and drinks, including pomegranate and lime margaritas. I strongly recommend adding Carlos and Mickey's to your list when in El Paso!

Good food, good service, good atmosphere, and a nice fun crowd. We started at the bar and had a great time watching the games and meeting new friends. The bartenders were outstanding and knowledgeable and not afraid to make any drink to your liking. Definitely a fun place to hang out and have a good time. It’s also a good place to bring your family and friends and enjoy a night out! The steak fajitas were very good, although the steak could’ve been a little more tender and less chewy. But overall, it was well seasoned and well worth the price. The handmade top shelf margaritas are definitely outstanding and if you get the large glass, be prepared because it’s really BIG!!! Definitely a must try any day of the week!

We went on a Sunday after right before noon and it wasn't too busy which is good , message by the time we left around 230 it became super busy . Daniel was our server and he was the most friendliest server yet ! He knew the menu, the specials, and was very quick to take care of us. Of course we started we drinks , we had the margarita special which was an Italian margarita. Since I was incharge to order drinks I went with a Texas size margarita. Let me tell you this is not a one-person drink lol . But it was very delicious , in super strong ,! We also ordered mini flautas, steak ranchero , and chimichanga! Everything came out super quick, fresh, hot, and delicious! You also ordered guacamole. And I must say it was the most fresh from scratch guacamole I have ever tasted ! This restaurant never fails too impressed . I've been here multiple times and the food has always been delicious . And just for information the booths are pretty tight to slide in .. so be mindful on where you would like to sit

The beer list is massive, with something for everyone, and our server was super knowledgeable about all the options, which made picking the right brew easy. The place also has a great aesthetic — really cool vibe and atmosphere. It was definitely on the loud side, but honestly, it just added to the lively energy. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in the area!

Let’s start with positive.. ‘food ‘ was amazing. Very happy with the fish and chips .. it was something I wasn’t expecting having eating this same dish in Arizona .. next plate was hamburger with roasted green chili which was by far the best I ever had .. great dish !! I normally won’t order the same dish but wow .. I want this dish again!! …custom service.. was amazing .. loved it .. .. atmosphere was as good .. the only thing was the seats are wood and after sitting it can be uncomfortable .. no cushion seats .. also it was really cold but other then that I would definitely be back .. I like this place ..

The sweet potato fries and all of the different dips were amazing! Not to mention their huge beer selection and fantastic service. Their patio is also dog friendly!

We live about 1.5 hours away and were in El Paso for a show. Decided to stop here for food and beers before hand and MAN were we satisfied. Our server was Celine (spelling?), who greeted us quickly despite a busy dining area. We told her we had never been before and she was excited that we were visiting and told us about the St Paddy’s day specials for beer. We passed on that but told her we enjoyed IPA’s, mostly west coast and hazy, and asked if she had any recommendations. She of course did and we told her to surprise us. She brought back two different beers, both of which were amazing. We rolled the dice a second time once those were finished and she outdid herself with two new beers. Amazing customer service! We ordered the Gochu “Hop” Wings and Trappist Mushrooms for starters. Both items were a 10/10, including the house made sauces. For mains we got a Duchess Burger and a Roasted Green Chili & Asadero Burger, both with a side of their fries. The burgers were a 15/10, easily, and the fries were a 9/10 for me and 10/10 for my wife. There was some sort of aioli or seasoning (maybe truffle?) on them that I wasn’t a huge fan of…but I still ate every last one including my wife’s left overs. This place was so good that my wife and I are going back this weekend JUST to eat here (did I mention we are 1.5 hours away?) This is a MUST STOP AT place if you’re in town. There was a ton of beer selections, plenty of bar seating, slightly smaller dining room seating, a few TVs playing sports, and an amazing atmosphere. Can’t wait to be back on Saturday!

Mexican restaurant
Restaurant
Kiki's Mexican Restaurant is a legendary spot that has been attracting celebrities for decades. It was even featured on the Food Network show, The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Known for its brisket machaca and green crab enchiladas, Kiki's is also famous for its generous use of cheese without incorporating lard in their food. They were among the first local restaurants to serve whole black beans in El Paso.
Kiki’s is a great spot for a quick, no-fuss meal with fast service and delicious food. I was surprised by how busy it was even in the early evening, which speaks to its local popularity. Despite the crowd, the service was efficient, and we didn’t have to wait long to be seated or served. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable, making it an excellent value for the quality and amount of food. It’s a great place for a casual meal, whether you’re a local or just passing through, and the lively atmosphere adds to the experience.

Fantastic locally owned and operated. Delicious food. I always get the shredded beef, or ground beef tacos. Their salsa and chips are good. The salsa is soo good they should bring more to the table! Staff is always kind, service has always been good when I go, food comes quick (at least every time I've gone).

The guacamole was too small for $6.55. The green sauce was okay, but the red sauce had better flavor. The flan was disappointing—eggy and with a strange texture. Also, ask the waiter to repeat your order for accuracy.

Worth. The wait. The first time I came to El Paso I made fun of the city because I never found any great Mexican food I was like. How can new orleans have better spanish food? I just didn't find the right places here. This place is a hidden gem

Not bad, not great. Rice taste was off. Service was lacking, but it was pretty busy. Green enchiladas and beef tacos were on point. The spicy salsa was good, too.

** First Timer Review ** Wow and excellent, absolutely Wex-wellent. To quote 2005’s best of the best article at our table, “more traditional than innovative, but not lacking in the taste department”. You can definitely say that again. My steak fajitas and iced tea were perfect. The only down side was a slight wait, maybe 10 minutes. Everything was made exceptionally well and portions weren’t a problem at all. I will definitely be retuning soon. 10/10 recommended for Mexican food.

Super cute, unpretentious Mexican restaurant with delicious, affordable Mexican food and super kind and helpful service. Sadly, only one night in El Paso. But if there were multiple nights, we would come back here every night. The mole btw was so delicious!
