Very nice museum - and it's free! I think one can get through the whole museum in one afternoon. There is a good selection ancient sculpture as well as of European art but it's mostly less famous works of the most prominent artists interspersed with the most prominent works of some less famous artists. Also quite a few really nice porcelain pieces both from Europe and from Asia. If I lived in Cambridge, I would probably go there quite often.

Wow, what an incredibly impressive museum this is. Based on the exterior of the building, I was expecting it to be good, but I had no idea just how good it was going to be. The exterior is large, fancy and very elaborate, with many imposing pillars by the entrance.
I walked in and the interior was also fancy, with a spectacular ceiling and ornate wall decorations. I was immediately greeted by a friendly staff member, who offered me a map, which I was more than happy to accept.
As I walked around the museum, I couldn't help but smile at the number of impressive artefacts that were on display, with some of them being huge pieces. I was particularly impressed with the section on Egypt. The displays were some of the best I have ever seen at any museum in the world.
I found the map to be useful to navigate the museum. However, many of the rooms did not have a number, so at times, it was a little hard to keep up with the map and know which section I was actually in. It would be really helpful if the museum would number all of the sections because at present, it appears that only some of them are numbered.
The museum has clean toilets, a great cafe with plenty of seating, and a fantastic gift shop. It has already become one of my favourite museums and as an added bonus, entry is free too.
I plan to visit many more times and cannot recommend this museum any more highly!

Absolute fantastic zoo! So clean, it’s well maintained. Animals all look great, there’s plenty of seating spread out the park perfect to take your own picnic or use on the establishments there. Lots of play areas for the kids, toilets spread out well & there’s a dinosaur area too with a sandpit. Plenty of photo spots!

Amazing family day out!
We had a fantastic time at Hertfordshire Zoo. The park is very clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully laid out. There’s a huge variety of animals — from big cats and monkeys to reptiles and exotic birds — all looking healthy and well cared for.
One of the highlights is the World of Dinosaurs near the entrance — a brilliant, interactive trail featuring life-sized animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar! Kids absolutely loved it.
There’s also a great café with a good selection of hot food, drinks, and snacks, plus plenty of places to sit and relax throughout the park. You can tell the staff really care about the animals and the visitor experience.
Highly recommend for families or anyone who enjoys animals and nature. Definitely one of the best zoos we’ve been to!

We had the best day at Hertfordshire Zoo, I truly couldn't fault anything! The ticket staff at the reception were lovely, helpful and interactive with the kids. We were blown away by the dinosaurs! Everywhere is so clean and professional, and the animal exhibits are exceptional. We also had a delicious lunch. Absolutely top day out for everyone.

Had a brilliant day at Hertfordshire Zoo. Lovely people and a lovely place. You can tell they care about the animals and are adding lots of new areas/updating older ones. The big cats were amazing to see up close, and the World of Dinosaurs is really fun. They have lots of park areas and places to eat.
The highlight of the day/main reason to visit was the One Zoo Three Meet & Greet. The little super fan got to meet the lads, and they were absolutely lovely—so friendly and sweet. Even though a very excited super fan was completely overwhelmed they were so kind and made it such a special experience.
It was lovely to hear about all the work they are doing from the Big Cat Sanctuary as well!
The staff were super friendly and really knew their stuff.
Can't wait to visit the Big Cat Sanctuary!

We had such a fantastic day out at Hertfordshire Zoo! It’s a brilliant place for families, especially with young children.
The zoo is beautifully laid out, easy to navigate, and full of fascinating animals that are clearly well cared for. We especially loved the big cats, lemurs, the cheeky monkeys and my baby loved the dino themed park within!
The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions.
The play areas were a huge hit with our little one, and there were great spots for picnics as well as food options on-site.
Everything was clean and well maintained, and parking was easy too.
Highly recommend it for a fun, family-friendly day out. We’ll definitely be visiting again!

Had a wonderful day here and at the World of Dinosaurs. It is a great place to take children. Play areas for children are designed well. Food outlets and restaurants are available here. Spent around 3 hours here, including time for something to eat. It was fairly busy on my visit. Staff were welcoming and very friendly.

Best zoo in the country! I've been to many over the years with my children and this was the best! Very clean, great facilities, friendly staff, price was reasonable. Much more level and less spaced out than many out there, animals looked very healthy and looked after, please see my photos.
Terry B — Google review
Really well thought out Dino park with some nice touches. The animatronics are good too and most models move and they are pretty much to scale. The zoo is well laid out and lots of eateries on the path too with talks about animals at set intervals. There is a short train ride in the park and a show for younger kids on a stage. Food is not cheap (where is these days) but tasted good and portions were not small. Parking was ample and upon entry to car park I was asked if I was a blue badge holder (I'm not) but I thought was also a plus. My 7 year old loved every minute and wants to go back even though we completed the whole park in 4-5 hours.

Ely Cathedral stands as a magnificent testament to Gothic architecture, captivating visitors with its intricate design and historical significance. Nestled in the flat Fenland landscape of East Cambridgeshire, this grand structure rises dramatically against the sky, evoking awe just as it was intended by its Norman builders after their conquest.
Possibly one of the most interesting and historically significant Cathedrals in the country. Built on a site of an Anglo-Saxon church 20 years after the Norman invasion, this Cathedral presents the very best of Romanesque and gothic architecture alongside renovations made by the Victoria's. Of significance is the octagon tower, a feat of building at its time with wooden beams so large, local roads needed reinforcing to carry them in. A real jewel in the crown of Cathedrals
Yoav G — Google review
Spectacular cathedral with a magnificent octagonal tower dating back to the mid 14th century.
The grounds are free to visit, and provide excellent views of the cathedral's elaborate exterior. Neatly maintained gardens and a fine collection of medieval buildings make for a very pleasant setting.
To truly appreciate the cathedral, you'll need to look inside. The interior is stunning, with a remarkable Victorian painted nave ceiling, beautiful stained glass windows and ornate decoration throughout.
Entry is charged at £14 for an annual pass, with tower tours an extra £11, lasting about 1 hour. We had limited time in Ely so skipped the tower tour and just went for the £14 ticket. This includes a well produced interactive audio guide which really helps you get the most from your visit by showcasing all the highlights.
Facilities are good, with a café serving light lunches and refreshments, a gift shop and toilets within the cathedral grounds. Having visited a number of fine cathedrals recently, some of which were free to visit, I was initially surprised at the entry cost. Any concerns were about value quickly vanished upon stepping inside - Ely is not just one of the finest cathedrals in England, but surely in the world.
Andrew T — Google review
I've visited quite a few Cathedrals in my life, but Ely is the one for me, don't get me wrong they are all beautiful in one way or another, but Ely was the whole package, the sheer size of it was mine boggling.
Honestly the history of these Cathedrals is not a big deal for me, like who built it and in what century,I just want to see it in the flesh and enjoy it for the spectacle that it is and just how many years it took to build without actually knowing.
All I can say is,it was a mind-blowing achievement by hundreds of people and it is a truly beautiful structure whatever religion you believe in.♥️

An amazing church. One of the most beautiful churches I have visited. The size alone was amazing. The inside was packed with lots of history and provided lots of information. You do have to pay for entry, but they do provide a self guided audio tour at no extra charge. Being winter, the church was a little chilli inside. The grounds was very well maintained and has a small herb garden. This is a must to see in England.

Lovely cathedral. Really beautiful with a fascinating history, which is well described. Only snags are..no free av guides if you don't pay (ie children's, surely the ones who will benefit the most, carers etc). Cafe is well outside and was shut for refurbishment. Being disabled with no notice till we got there was not great (and you then have to walk ALL the way round the cathedral to get back in)

Magnificent, outside and inside. The Octagon is a marvel of innovation and beauty. If you have time, do the Tower tour you will not regret it. And the guide is knowledgeable and very proud of his town and its history.
IOAN F — Google review
We enjoyed our visit. Lovely cathedral. Our ticket price included return visits for a year. We also paid for a tower tour, which was excellent. The chap taking us on tour was brilliant, sorry i cannot remember his name.
The only negative was on both visits we were accosted about buying a ticket. We had and went through the ticket area, but felt as if we were be accused of pulling a fast one. The layout possibly does not help with this and they may need to rethink how you enter the cathedral. We have never had this issue in other cathedrals we have visited.
John M — Google review
What a place if your in Ely definitely visit this cathedral you can get a year's entry ticket so worth getting, plenty to see and lots of information from the electronic guide you can get which has a touchscreen so easy to use. Can be chilly inside even on a hot day so tack a top. And the good thing is it's free to park in the carparks.

IWM Duxford, a remarkable destination for aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike, is Europe's largest aviation museum. This former WWI airfield boasts an impressive collection of over 200 meticulously preserved vintage aircraft housed in expansive hangars. Visitors can marvel at a diverse range of planes, from iconic Spitfires to the legendary Concorde. The American Air Museum within Duxford pays tribute to WWII servicemen and features the most extensive collection of American military and civil aircraft outside the United States.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit today.
What really stood out for us was how engaging, helpful and knowledgeable the volunteers were. Really talkative and made a huge effort to talk to us during our stay. Made us feel very welcome! Thank you all for the effort you clearly put in to what you do.
We felt that the refreshments available down near the American hanger were not adequate to meet demand. Not enough seating and the two ladies were clearly run off their feet. More provision at the end would be good. Or perhaps allow people to take their drinks around with them. Can't see what harm that would do really!!?!?
We were also surprised that the American exhibits seemed to be more modern, more interactive and more interesting than the British, which is surprising considering we're in Britain. Would be good to see the British side have equal investment.
Overall great visit and a really lovely team!!

Fantastic day out! Excellent parking facilities, wonderfully warm welcome and quick check in. All the volunteers we encountered were helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. Fantastic displays and exhibitions. Everything was clean and very well maintained. We ate in the American cafe which was small with a small offering but the food was fresh and tasty. We had a look in the bigger restaurant and the food looked really very nice. Highly recommend for a family day out!

IWM Duxford is an outstanding museum that brings military and aviation history to life. As one of the UK’s most impressive air museums, it offers an incredible collection of historic aircraft, military vehicles, and interactive exhibits that captivate visitors of all ages.
The site itself is a former RAF airfield, adding authenticity to the experience. The hangars are filled with legendary aircraft, including Spitfires, a Concorde, and even a B-52 bomber. The American Air Museum is a highlight, showcasing an impressive array of US military planes. For those interested in live action, Duxford regularly hosts air shows where historic planes take to the skies, creating a truly unforgettable spectacle.
The museum is well-organized, with knowledgeable staff and plenty of hands-on exhibits, making it an engaging visit for both history buffs and families. There’s a good café and picnic areas for a break during your visit. The only downside is that the site is vast, so be prepared for a lot of walking—but it’s well worth it.
Whether you’re passionate about aviation, military history, or just looking for a fantastic day out, IWM Duxford is an absolute must-see.

A fantastic visit and superb display of aircraft over the years including the impressive battle of Britain collection and American Air Museum. Great to see the airfield well used with historical planes taking off and landing regularly during our visit. Volunteers were great talking about some of the aircraft and points to note. Highly recommend and will visit again

IWM Duxford is a museum like no other. So many impressive displays and you really do need a full day to see everything. Special mention to the shuttle bus drivers who take you to whichever hanger you want to see. The museum is so big they really are a godsend for people with mobility issues. Probably the most amazing military museum I've ever visited. Go see for yourself, you won't be disappointed!

Also saw several WW2 aeroplanes doing a display.
Only downside was quite expensive to have a snack to eat.

Excellent aviation museum. The American exhibit is particularly impressive. (SR71, B-52, F-111 etc etc. And being a live airfield makes it even more interesting. There’s often things flying, especially in summer. Watching a Catalina or a B-17 in action is never a bad thing.

The British Museum, located on Great Russel Street, is a grand neo-classical building that houses an extensive collection of over eight million artifacts and works of art from various cultures across the globe. The museum's highlights include Egyptian mummies, ancient Greek sculptures, the Rosetta Stone, and the Assyrian-Babylonian collection. It also features exhibitions on Africa, Ancient Greece and Rome, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Great museum worth visiting each section separately! We definitely will come back. For a short visit consider buying a map which will guide you to the 10 most popular exhibits. Very inspiring place, you can find objects from every country and culture you’ve ever heard.

Very huge museum. Interesting fact that it was the first museum in the world open for people for free. And it is still free to access these days, you just have to book your visit in advance. I would recommend buying an audit guide, and paying 6 pounds. And if you do so I strongly recommend sending tours to your phone to be able to use offline mode, because the connection inside the museum is quite poor sometimes. Spent around 4 hours.

The British Museum is an absolute must-visit when in London. From the moment you step inside, you're surrounded by centuries of human civilization — from the Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies to the awe-inspiring Greek Parthenon sculptures and ancient artifacts from Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
The museum is beautifully organized, free to enter, and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. You could easily spend hours (or days!) exploring the vast collection — every gallery tells a powerful story of cultural heritage and human innovation.
The Great Court itself is an architectural marvel, offering a serene space to relax, grab a coffee, or plan your route through history. Whether you're a history buff, art lover, or a curious traveler, the British Museum offers a world-class experience that’s both educational and inspiring.
Highly recommended for all ages — a timeless window into the world's shared past!

The British Museum is massive and a total must-see! It's packed with incredible stuff from all over the world and different time periods. Seeing the Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies is pretty mind-blowing. Just a heads up, you could spend days here and still not see everything, so maybe pick a few exhibits you really want to check out beforehand. It can get super crowded, especially on weekends, so going early or later in the day might be a good move. Overall, it's an amazing place to dive into history and culture!

Good but not perfect. Room closures with no explanation, less than ideal presentation on some key items and huge crowds with some narrow spaces makes it a step down from places like the Louvre. Tremendous that it's free though and I was impressed with the efficiency of the queues.

I went there on the weekday around 12.30 and I accessed by the back door not so many people the line run fast and smooth in the mean time the front door got a lot of people. London Underground Limited, often simply called the London Underground, is a popular transportation system that offers an efficient way to navigate through the city. It is known for its ease of use and regular train schedules, making it convenient for both locals and visitors to travel around London. The system provides access to major attractions such as museums and iconic landmarks, catering to a diverse range of commuters from working-class individuals to executives.
The building, first listed as Grade II in 1970, was upgraded to Grade I in 2011.
In 2013, it was announced that 55 Broadway would be converted into luxury apartments, once London Underground moved operations from the building in 2015 to their new headquarters in the Olympic Park, Stratford, London.
In May 2014, it was announced that the architects, TateHindle, would lead the redevelopment and, in June 2015, planning permission and listed building consent was granted: however, this was not implemented and the planning permission expired in June 2018.
In September 2019, a long-term lease of the property was sold by Transport for London for £120 million to Integrity International Group, founded by Tony Matharu.
In May 2020, it was announced that Blue Orchid Hotels, a subsidiary of Integrity International, would convert the structure into a luxury hotel. (Wiki)
Let's hope they don't change much of its beauty..

At first I was worried I wouldn’t be able to follow the system or get myself lost. Which I did, end up going the wrong way. But it’s actually so easy to follow, it’s good to make a few errors as then you will be conscious of ensuring you’re on the right tube. London Underground is amazing and it is really easy to get around and see places. I would walk around central London. Use the underground when going further afield.
The trains are very regular, you will find they can get very busy, packed. Don’t feel you need to squeeze in, just wait for the next train as it will add to your experience and enjoy it better.
As you would anywhere just be vigilant of your surroundings. I felt very safe, as a solo traveler I was very surprised.

This is a good way to get around London. The new trains and updated stations are good. It is easy to get a ticket and to get around. However, the ventilation is poor, horrible, hot, and sweaty. It makes for an unbearable and uncomfortable ride. However, some of the trains and train stations have proper ventilation and air but most do not. I only take one train with no transfers, which is all that I can bear, and walk just to be outside where I can breath easy. I caution you to only ride when necessary and recommend you walk outside if able.

These shops are all closed for good. I could rattle on about the good old days, (people actually pay to hear about it) and a book would be better; it would take a book, pdf, file, whatever to explain how much it has changed. Point?

The National Gallery, located in Trafalgar Square, London, is a renowned art museum housing an extensive collection of European paintings from the medieval period to the early 20th century. The gallery features masterpieces by celebrated artists such as Botticelli, Paul Cézanne, Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Turner, Renoir and Van Gogh.
The National Gallery is truly one of London’s crown jewels. Located right in Trafalgar Square, it’s home to an incredible collection of paintings that span centuries, from the early Renaissance to the Impressionists and beyond. And amazingly, entry to the main collection is completely free!
Walking through the grand halls, you get to see masterpieces from legends like Van Gogh, Monet, Rembrandt, Turner, Botticelli, and so many more. Each room feels like stepping into a different era of art history, and the layout makes it easy to wander, discover, and lose track of time.
The building itself is stunning, both outside and inside, with beautiful architecture and plenty of places to sit and reflect. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to help if you’re looking for a specific painting or artist.
The National Gallery also offers excellent temporary exhibitions (some ticketed), and their gift shop and cafes are well worth a stop. It's a wonderful experience whether you're an art lover or just curious about seeing some of the most famous paintings in the world up close.

The National gallery is just immense, we seemed to walk for miles and yet I think we missed half of it.
The art works are spectacular, and are well presented and laid out in spacious galleries. Some areas get busy yet some areas are remarkably quiet.
The building is large and magnificent from the outside but some of the internal rooms and beautifully crafted and decorated and were almost art in themselves.
The art works are beautiful with all the major artists on display.
Lovely to see the original of some familiar work.
The Coronation portraits of HM King Charles and HM Queen Camila were on display. The painting of HM Queen Camila was beautifully done and very impressive, the portrait of HM King Charles maybe will attract more critical opinion.
I must mention the toilet facilities were perfectly kept they were bright clean.
The Gallery is free and is a true national asset

Fascinating place, with an amazing collection of art. Also, it’s not as massive of a place as I was expecting, which we nice because you can feel like you saw a decent portion of it even if you don’t have a whole day to spend there.
Definitely get there early with an online reservation- the line will still be long.

Such an extraordinary gallery. The re-arrangement they have done is fabulous! I always get a thrill of excitement revisiting these wonderful works of art. The cafes are great and the shops too. I didn't visit any of the paid exhibitions this time I was too excited to see my favourites again. An incredibly uplifting place to spend a couple of hours.

Wonderful art gallery with art from a huge collection of well-known artists. It was very busy with a. Long queue to enter and I’d advise booking a slot in advance.
Plenty of places to sit and admire the art and nice gift shops/cafés on site. Cloakroom available for £2 per item including larger bags. Plenty of toilets including ones with free sanitary products in the bathroom.
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff all around :)

Amazing! The fact that museums and galleries are free in London makes the cultural visit special. There's a line of course, but you can get a reservation online not to wait too much!
And see paintings of artists we learn in school in such a beautiful building is a special thing.

Beautiful gallery with many unique artworks and a free entrance. Definitely worth a visit for at least 2 hours!
But: two options I cannot recommend: booking a ticket in advance doesn‘t seem worth it since everyone has free entry, and you won‘t get in quicker. Getting an audio guide for 7£ is also not worth it as it only features very few artworks, and they are being explained in a non traditional way rather in a manner of personal experience of curators, poets, artists, etc. plus the device often looses internet connection.
For both options you are required to give out your personal data on top of that. I fail to see how it is necessary to know where I live in my home country when I want to borrow an audio guide device.

You can feel all the breezes of medieval, renaissance, baroque and modern periods with amazing paintings. Bellini, Raphael, Rembrandt, Monet… excellent…

The lastminute.com London Eye is a must-visit attraction in London, offering an exhilarating experience with its 32 capsules representing the city's boroughs. As Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, it provides a stunning 360-degree view of the city and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the UK. Situated along the River Thames, it has become an iconic part of the London skyline and offers a thrilling way to take in breathtaking views, especially during sunset.
Visited here recently whilst on a trip to London. It was very quiet on our visit with hardly any wait time (less than 10 mins). I would not recommend purchasing fast tracks, unless in school holiday times. So glad we decided against this and just booked regular tickets in advance.
The experience was great, purchased the photos they take of you too as it was a one off experience. They were reasonably enough priced.
Views of Westminster and surrounding areas from the top are fantastic. The weather was beautiful on our visit so everything was crystal clear to see.

The London Eye is hands-down one of the coolest ways to see the city from up high. It’s a total must-do if you’re in London, offering insane panoramic views of landmarks like Big Ben, the Shard, and the snaking River Thames. Yeah, the lines can be a slog—sometimes you’re waiting ages—but trust me, the experience is worth every minute. Pro tip: book your tickets in advance at the kiosks nearby to skip some of the hassle. It’s not cheap, but the view from 135 meters up is unreal, especially if you catch it at sunset when the city lights start twinkling. We went for the photo package, and it was a solid choice—decent quality and a fun keepsake. Oh, and here’s something handy: each pod has a specific spot marked for photos if you’re using an outside camera, so you can get that perfect shot without random heads in the way. The ride itself is smooth, about 30 minutes, and the pods are spacious enough to move around. Just don’t expect to rush through; it’s a slow, steady spin to soak in the views. If crowds aren’t your thing, maybe aim for an early morning slot. Totally recommend it for that bucket-list London moment!

Lovely attraction in a lovely area, lots of lovely quirky cafes in the area and the jubilee Gardens are gorgeous.
Very quick to access the attraction even without fast track tickets.
Full inspections/bag inspections before entering. I was asked if I was carrying any knives, which took me a little by surprise but the staff we all nice.
Took my own binoculars as they were £6 to purchase. Great views, but I think it would be nice to have some background music or something on the way round.

Riding the London Eye was such a memorable experience! It gave me the most incredible views of the city — from Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament to the Thames and beyond. The whole ride felt smooth and peaceful, and the pace was just right to soak in all the sights and snap lots of great photos.
As someone visiting London for the first time, this was the perfect way to get a feel for the city from above. The staff were helpful and organized, and the capsule felt safe and comfortable the entire time.
If you want a beautiful, panoramic view of London — especially on a clear day — this is absolutely worth doing! A must for first-timers like me.

Riding the London Eye was an unforgettable highlight of my trip to London. The entire experience—from the smooth boarding process to the stunning 360-degree views—was seamless and breathtaking.
We booked our tickets online, which was easy and saved us time at the entrance. Opting for the Fast Track ticket was definitely worth it as it allowed us to skip the longer queues, especially since it was a busy weekend.
Once inside the glass capsule, the slow and smooth rotation gave us plenty of time to soak in the sights. From the top, we had incredible views of Big Ben, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, and even glimpses beyond London on the clear day we visited. The photo opportunities were endless.
The capsules were clean, spacious, and air-conditioned, with helpful touchscreen guides to point out key landmarks. The staff were professional and welcoming throughout the entire visit.
Whether it’s your first time in London or a return visit, the London Eye is a must-do attraction. It’s peaceful, iconic, and offers a totally unique perspective of the city.

A Must Do in London!!!
The London Eye was absolutely amazing! The views from the top are unreal, you can see all the big landmarks like Big Ben, the River Thames, Tower Bridge, and more. It moves slowly and smoothly, so you get plenty of time to take it all in and snap great photos.
The whole experience feels calm and peaceful, even though you’re high above the city. It’s super well organized and the staff was really friendly. Whether it’s your first time in London or not, this is one of those things that’s 100% worth doing. I’d definitely go again especially around sunset!

An unforgettable experience and one of London’s most iconic attractions!
The London Eye is an absolute must-see if you’re visiting the city. Standing tall at 135 meters (443 feet), it’s Europe’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel and offers spectacular 360-degree views across London. From the top, you can spot famous landmarks like Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, Tower Bridge, and even as far as Windsor Castle on a clear day.
Each capsule is spacious, fully enclosed, and air-conditioned, comfortably fitting around 25 people. The rotation is slow and steady, lasting about 30 minutes, giving you ample time to take in the views, snap photos, or just relax and watch London stretch out below you. You never feel rushed, and the pace is great even for those a bit nervous about heights.
What really stands out is the smoothness of the experience – from the calm ride to the helpful staff, everything is well-organized. You can also choose from standard tickets, fast-track options, or even private pods for special occasions like birthdays or proposals.
Located along the South Bank of the River Thames, the Eye is surrounded by a lively area filled with street performers, food stalls, cafes, and attractions like the Sea Life Aquarium and London Dungeon. It’s a great place to spend a few hours before or after your ride.
A few tips:
• Book online in advance to avoid queues, especially during weekends or school holidays.
• Try to visit around sunset for the most magical views as the lights of the city begin to glow.
• Don’t forget to explore nearby spots like Jubilee Gardens, which is perfect for relaxing or taking some riverside drone shots (where permitted).
The London Eye is more than just a ride – it’s an experience that gives you a new perspective on this incredible city. Whether it’s your first time in London or your tenth, it never gets old.

The Tower of London is a medieval castle with a rich and bloody history, housing the Crown Jewels and iconic Beefeaters. It offers dramatic views of the Thames River and is located near Brick Lane. The luxurious Cheval Three Quays at The Tower of London provides contemporary one and two-bedroom apartments with stunning vistas of landmarks such as the Tower Bridge, The Shard, and the remains of the Roman London Wall. Guests can enjoy spacious accommodations with full-service kitchens and oversized bathrooms.
It is a pleasure to see a lot of history being preserved and displayed for public. Make sure you book in advance and give atleast around 4-5 hours to cover most of the attractions and gift shops. The main attraction including the Crown Jewels can have a queue for about 40 mins or so on a good sunny weekend.

Fantastic educational and historical place to visit... Absolutely the crown jewel of the crown jewels! The tower itself is daunting, the pure history is absolutely chilling! I would love to go to this place at midnight and just wait for the ghosts to rise :-)

Bigtime history visit with insight into the royal family and English culture. The exhibit featuring the crown jewels wasn't too crowded (no photos allowed), but you can get within arm's length through glass. The entire complex is a a lot of fun to explore and there's a good view of tower bridge.
Joe ( — Google review
A London must-see! I highly recommend getting a private tour first thing in the morning so you are able to see the opening of the gates & you are one of the first people inside to see the crown jewels which tends to get extremely busy as the day goes on, often having a long queue. We used the company Walks and it was just a three hour tour with a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. I would allow between 3 to 5 hours to view this historic spot.

The Tower of London is a truly fascinating place, rich in history and incredibly well presented. Everything is beautifully described, making it easy to follow the stories behind this iconic fortress, from its role as a royal palace to its darker past as a prison.
For anyone even slightly interested in history, this is an absolute must-visit. The atmosphere of the ancient walls, the stories of past monarchs, and the legendary ravens all add to the unique experience.
A true highlight of the visit is the Crown Jewels – simply breathtaking. The intricate craftsmanship and historical significance make them an unforgettable sight.
Highly recommended for history lovers and anyone wanting to experience a key part of British heritage!

When we visited, unfortunately the palace area wasn't open nor was the chapel area. There were a lot of stairs involved - I have disabilities but while I was able to handle the stairs, others may not be able to.
However, it was a nice look around and an interesting place with lots of history.
Unfortunately we missed one bit that we wanted to go to as they started closing bits off earlier than the closing time.
I do not think it is worth the price.

Interesting experience, the main building in the middle has lots of interactive activities for children. The changing of guards was fun to watch. It’s a shame you can’t take pictures inside where the Crown Jewels are.

Loved it! The crown jewels are definitely worth it to see. Unfortunately, I have no photos of them here because you’re not allowed—they’re pretty strict about it.
If you go, make sure to do the free initial tour included. We were in a big group with this guy who was super awesome and entertaining. Definitely one of the highlights.
Hever Castle & Gardens is a historic castle dating back to 1270, featuring Tudor artworks and opulent furnishings. The castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and later owned by William Waldorf Astor. Located in Kent, England, the area is rich with other notable attractions such as Leeds Castle, Penshurst Place, Canterbury Cathedral, and Sissinghurst Castle & Garden.
I visited Hever Castle and Gardens yesterday with my wife, and it was truly a delightful experience. The castle is rich in history and beautifully preserved, offering a fascinating glimpse into Tudor times. The gardens were absolutely stunning — well-maintained, peaceful, and full of vibrant spring colours. We especially loved the rose garden and the serene lakeside walk. It’s a perfect spot for couples or families looking for a relaxing and scenic day out. Highly recommended!

What a fabulous day at Hever Castle! We had the advantage of a sunny day but oh my the gardens are just exquisite. We went boating on the lake, walked around the lake, wandered through all of the beautiful different areas of the gardens - my favourite being the roses. Then we went into the house with the free audio guide. This is a very special place even without the amazing history.
Kathryn B — Google review
Parking was free and tickets were cheaper if booked online.
The gardens and grounds opened before the castle itself at 1130am if you want to avoid later crowds and queues.
There was an onsite cafe but picnic lunches may also be advantageous.
3-4 hours would be recommended to enjoy the house and grounds.
Ryan S — Google review
Been here a couple of times, this time was just to visit the gardens. Rather pricey to get in, we bought a ticket on line but this still cost nearly £20 each. The gardens are lovely though and you can spend all day here. We just about missed the full splendour of the rhododendrons, they were still colourful but starting to come to an end.
The gardens have a variety of differing landscapes, from the formal gardens to the large lake to the wooded areas, you are usually guaranteed to find a quiet space even during the busy season. There is a small army museum there for people that like a bit of history.
The lake has a steam powered boat for those that would like a trip around it, or for those more active people pedalos or rowing boats.
There are lots of places to grab a drink along with some small takeaway vans for ice creams or crepes. Then you have a main place that sells sandwiches and roll along with cakes and drinks . You also have a table service place next door for bigger meals . Again the prices are high ( we had two drinks , two rolls , two packs of crisps and two cakes and it came to £30) , but all these places are the same, I would suggest buying some picnic food and bringing it with you otherwise it will be an expensive day for the family.
Talking of family they do have a play park for the children and also a maze by the house. There was also archery. If anyone wanted a go as well as a kids water feature which looked fun.
I can't comment on the castle / house as it's been a long time since I went in it.
I would say it's probably one of the best kept gardens in Kent if not England and worth a visit if you have never been.
Parking is free which is a bonus too.

The most beautiful grounds and gardens I’ve visited. Far exceeded my expectations expectations. Lovely spot to enjoy a picnic, enjoy the boating lake and generally take in the views of this stunning venue! Really loved how well kept everything is. Went early at opening and had a peaceful quiet stroll before the busy crowds. Buy tickets in advance for cheaper rates. Will be coming back! My labubu also enjoyed her day out. 10/10.

Beautiful castle and grounds. Great for a summers days out. If you have children come prepared with spare clothes so they can enjoy the water maze.
My youngest (4) had loads of questions and in one area a member of staff went out of their way to teach her boys about the castle - fantastic!

Super nice place to enjoy your Saturday. The grounds are stunning with beautiful gardens, ponds, a lake, some nice mazes and an interesting castle. Do spend your whole day here, as its definitely worth it. Bring your kids or dog(s), too! Spend some extra time admiring the ballerina roses, they're astonishing.
Anna A — Google review
Our family had a great time at Hever despite some awful weather, I bet it's great to leisurely walk in nicer weather. The castle audio tour works well with a more child friendly option available for kids which is good. The grounds are beautiful and a pleasant walk around. There are a couple of mazes, one being a water puzzle type which is different. There is also a good sized play area and an exhibition for a certain army regiment ( I forget which sorry!) which has plenty on display. I thought the optional extra archery was quite expensive so we did not do that, I feel they would be more family friendly and actually make more money if it was cheaper? It was hardly used all day. Still, it was a great day out and I would like to experience it in better weather. We brought a packed lunch but a cafe is available.

Excellent Sunday evening meal during a recent storm. Lovely staff, and impressive service despite quite a few large tables ordering food at the same time. Fish and chips, 10/10. And pie of the day, succulent chicken thigh in creamy sauce with a proper puffed pastry lid and the BEST veg - I would seriously be happy with just a plate of the roasted carrots and fresh greens - also 10/10. Thank you for allowing us to stay in the car park in our campervan as it meant we could enjoy your hospitality, and we’ll certainly be back.

I think we must have gone on the busiest day they've ever had as they shut the kitchen down just as we got there, for a break! I only wanted olives but was told 🙅♂️ we stayed for 1 drink as it was a beautiful day and sat outside, the bartender took a bit of a while to prepare the drinks (it varied between Pimm's, beers and soft drinks) but apart from that we could not grumble 🙂 will try again another time to hopefully try the food lol

Colchester Zoo, sprawling across 60 acres of parkland, offers a captivating experience with its smartly designed themed habitats housing over 260 species from around the world. Visitors can encounter crowd favorites like African elephants and giraffes as well as rare species such as fennec foxes and sun bears. The zoo's conservation efforts are evident in its care for endangered animals like Komodo dragons and African big cats.
We visited Colchester zoo at the start of spring, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience! The weather was perfect—warm with a gentle breeze, making it an ideal day for exploring the zoo. Everything felt so lively, with animals more active than ever, possibly enjoying the fresh season as much as we did.
The zoo itself was well-maintained, with blooming flowers adding extra beauty to the surroundings. The staff was friendly and informative, sharing fun facts about the animals during feeding sessions. We also enjoyed the interactive exhibits, especially the petting zoo, where we got to feed some friendly goats and sheep.
Overall, it was a fantastic visit! Spring seems to be the perfect time to experience the zoo at its best—beautiful weather, active animals, and a vibrant atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!
Would highly recommend a spring visit to anyone looking for a fun and memorable day at the zoo!

I had an absolutely fantastic time visiting Colchester Zoo! One of the highlights of the day was the amazing train ride that took us on a scenic journey around the park, giving us a chance to see the majority of the animals from a unique and relaxing perspective. It was such a fun and convenient way to explore the zoo. Another great feature was the variety of informative talks held at different animal enclosures throughout the day. These talks gave us the chance to learn more about the animals, their behaviors, and conservation efforts, all while getting a closer look at them. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. Overall, it was a brilliant experience—perfect for families, couples, or anyone who loves animals. Highly recommend visiting Colchester Zoo for a memorable and educational day out!

Our first visit June 2025 10 people. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and the staff were so lovely and helpful. The encounters were fab and so much going on even on a. We’ve been to a good few zoos across the UK as we came from SE and visited whilst on holiday and this is the best we’ve been too so far. There is a lot of pride in the zoo and people maintaining the grounds and you can tell the animals are well looked after, some of the enclosures are fabulous. We spent the day there and still didn’t see everything! So many food places too with nice food choices. Totally recommend!

Well maintained zoo and we had a great day at it!
One thing that leaded me no 4* is that it's kinda hard to navigate around it if you try to see everything, some places I had to walk trough a few times just to get around. Would expect some kind of map or the arrows to help navigate. Also I didn't knew about feeding times which would be really handy, check it out before your visit!

We love it here, lots to see and do. We recently took advantage of the Membership offer of 12 months for the price of 10, so we can come and go as often as we like.
All of the animals are well looked after, and as the zoo is so large, even when busy it never feels like you can't move around freely.
There's lots of food outlets to choose from, and lots of interactive exhibits for kids. The soft play is good too, there's no extra charge for it but you do have to book a separate ticket.

Great day out for kids and family. Having visited many zoos in the UK, Colchester is definitely one of the top zoos in the UK. They have a wide variety of animals on display. The lion and tiger sighting was top-notch. The African display was outstanding with animals free to roam. The 3 African elephants were majestic. There are a lot of activities for the kids throughout the day. The yearly pass is real value for money if you can visit a few times. The face painting wasn't great recently - avoid it (used to be good - depends on who is at work on the day). There are lots of places to eat n drink. You would need multiple visits to cover the entire zoo.
Vijay L — Google review
The zoo offers a fantastic collection of exhibits and amenities – in fact, the best amenities arrangements I’ve encountered anywhere in the world. However, the design of the visitor routes and the accompanying map is truly disappointing. The map almost feels like a deliberate misdirection, as it’s nearly impossible to use it reliably to navigate to your intended destination. Although the exhibits are not far apart, you’ll find yourself constantly taking unnecessary detours, only to realize that the next exhibit is just a minute away. Additionally, many of the exhibits could benefit from better design to make it clearer and more engaging for visitors – especially children – to find the animals and know what to expect.

A lot of rides to enjoy with a low amount of tickets. The entry is free. There are rides for every age of group people. Adventure Island is the perfect place for a fun family day out! My son had an amazing time—there are so many rides tailored just for them, from mini roller coasters to gentle carousels and splash zones. The park is super colorful, lively, and full of energy, which keeps little ones excited all day long. We loved how easy it was to get around, and the staff were fantastic with children—really friendly and patient. With no entry fee and the option to buy wristbands or ride tokens, it’s great value too. The atmosphere is lively and family-friendly, with plenty of food stalls and places to grab snacks. The park itself offers a great mix of attractions. Most of the rides are family-friendly and perfect for children, with just two extreme rides for those who want a bit more thrill. It’s a great balance that keeps everyone in the group happy—from little ones to teens and adults.
The whole area is clean, safe, and full of energy. The staff are friendly, and there’s plenty to see and do. Whether you’re walking along the seafront, enjoying the rides, or just soaking in the atmosphere, it’s a wonderful place to spend a fun-filled day.

Adventure Island on Southend seafront is a fantastic day out for all ages. The variety of rides is impressive, with something for everyone—from thrilling coasters to family-friendly fun. Standouts include Rage, one of the UK’s steepest roller coasters with a heart-racing 97° drop and a full loop that delivers a real adrenaline kick, and Axis, a modern spinning pendulum ride that swings and rotates high above the park—absolutely exhilarating!
The park is also great value for money, especially if you grab the annual pass, which quickly pays for itself if you visit more than a couple of times a year. Queue times are generally very acceptable, even during busier periods, and the staff keep everything running smoothly.
The park is also impressively clean throughout, with well-kept paths and spotless facilities. There are plenty of food options too, whether you’re after snacks, sit-down meals, or just something sweet, and it’s conveniently located near arcades and amusements along the seafront for even more fun after the rides.
Highly recommended for families, thrill seekers, or anyone looking for a lively day out by the sea!

It’s a nice fun time, expect to spend a fair bit of money and you won’t be disappointed.
The end of our day went a bit sour when we finally picked up a toy in one of the grab machines and it was misaligned so it couldn’t drop in the hole at the end and it landed in the next machine lol. Reported it and was just pushed from person to person with no one willing to sort it out.
All in all it’s not a bad place to go but the staff although smiling all the time just don’t care.

Had a small camera to film my kids in the rides and was told off by security that I needed approval from their office.
I read the terms and conditions and it stated that cameras like go pro with long sticks can't be used on the rides. I have re-approached the security guys and showed them their terms and conditions and the feedback was that it would be easier for me to just go and ask for permission from their office??
No easier for me would be if they actually knew their terms and conditions.
So if you want to take memories of your kids and want to use something else than a phone then this place would be very ocourd

First time here with a party of children and was very pleasantly surprised at the size of the park and the variety of rides available across all age ranges. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, if their assistance was needed. Would definitely go back. Would definitely recommend.

Surrounded by a serene moat and acres of lush greenery, it truly lives up to its reputation as “the loveliest castle in the world.” The calm reflection of the castle on the water, especially on a clear day like ours, made the scene feel like something out of a fairytale.
The grounds are perfectly maintained, and there’s a peacefulness in just strolling around, taking in the beauty and history of the place. Whether you’re a history lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking for a relaxing day out, Leeds Castle has something magical to offer.
Hastings Old Town is a picturesque area nestled between two cliffs and accessible by funicular railways. It exudes a classic seaside atmosphere with its Tudor architecture and vibrant arts community. Visitors can explore attractions like the Hastings Fishermen's Museum, Bluereef Aquarium, and a lively seafront funfair. The shingle beach is adorned with tall wooden fishermen's huts, adding to the area's charm. George Street offers quaint shops and bustling pubs, while High Street boasts numerous art galleries.

Port Lympne Safari Park offers a unique safari experience with its safari-themed hotel, cottages, cabins, and treehouse suites. The 600-acre Port Lympne Reserve provides an exhilarating adventure for animal enthusiasts. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea at the Grade II-listed Port Lympne Mansion and indulge in sweet and savory delicacies paired with an extensive array of loose-leaf teas or coffee.
Super cream tea in mansion. Great staff, food, and beautiful very clean crockery.
Enjoyed safari ride and walking around in sunshine. Lovely gardens and planters, friendly gardener who had worked there since 1987 when we started going!
Gorilla's brilliant at outdoor feeding time and loved bears in pool.
Dinosaur walk fun for us and great for kids.
Very different to old days but had lovely day.

One of the best weekends away/stay cations you can have in the UK.
We stayed in the house, which is beautifully presented and preserved. The room was ample enough for our one year old to run around in and comfortable enough to sleep in. We didn't spend much time in the room because we were out all in the park all day.
The park is great. With a room you get access to a golf buggy to traverse the substantial park. Plenty of animals of all sorts, lots of information boards and helpful staff.
The experiences were also great. Giraffe feeding and the safari tour being the highlight.
Food on site was OK, if not a little overpriced for the quality, but that's to be expected once you're in a park.

We visited Port Lympne in June and were really impressed. The park is beautiful, and it’s clear the animals are well cared for and loved.
The grounds are extensive, with well-maintained paths that had us walking for hours. The terrain is quite hilly, but that makes for some stunning views along the way.
We stayed overnight in the Pinewood Pods, which gave us access to the park over two days—including the evening, after it had closed to day visitors. Experiencing the park at dusk, with the sounds of the animals in a quieter setting, was a unique and memorable highlight.
The pods themselves are charming and cozy, though the sofa beds aren’t particularly comfortable. Not all pods have private toilets, but the shared facilities are clean and well-kept.
One thing to note, food inside the park is quite expensive. If you’re watching your budget, it’s worth bringing your own meals or snacks—prices are among the highest we’ve seen in a while when dining out.

Giraffes not as close-up as advertised, but still a decent day out
Did the safari tour at Port Lympne. Nice setting and the animals are impressive, but don’t be fooled by the photos on Google, you’re not getting up close like it looks in the ads (or they just didn’t do it that day). The giraffes were way off in the distance, and I had to zoom in loads just to get half-decent pics.
That said, the giraffes with the sea behind them did make for a stunning view, through zoom, anyway. Lions were asleep in a pile soaking sun, rhinos munching away, and the rest were scattered doing their own thing.
Truck ride was bumpy as warned, but fine. Worth doing once for the views and chilled vibe, just manage your expectations, it’s more “drive-through wildlife spotting” than an immersive safari.
Bonus points for the pizza though, surprisingly good.
Still came away with some cool photos.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Port Lympne last Friday.
The highlight of our day was the Rangers Safari, conducted by our friendly, engaging and extremely knowledgeable host Charlie. We learnt a lot during the 90 minute trip and we were amazed to see at close range the impressive animals, all of which looked healthy, contented and perturbed in their adopted rescue environment.
We spent the rest of the day walking around the reserve, covering 7 miles in total. Be aware that the terrain is hilly and in some places a little rough, so sensible footwear is required for walking it!
My wife has always wanted to go to Kenya for a "proper" safari, but this more local alternative ticked many of her boxes for now and offered her repeated thrills of being "out there" amongst the amazing animals.
We will remember this trip with great affection and we recommend it to anyone similarly minded.

We had a two night stay in the pinewood pod, we found a wasp nest in the pod, customer service were amazing they moved us straight away to giraffe lodge, dinner and breakfast included wow what can i say amazing service the views were like being on safari. Our second night we stayed in another Pod, fantastic park and staff nothing was too much. This was a wedding present from our family. Thankyou to all the staff for making our stay the best. We will be back. The animals are beautiful as were the grounds.

Two-Day Safari Adventure at Port Lympne & Howletts – A Perfect Short Getaway
We recently spent two days exploring Howletts Wild Animal Park and Port Lympne Safari Park, and the experience exceeded our expectations. The weather was ideal—not too hot, not too cold, and thankfully no rain—which meant we were lucky enough to spot all the animals at both parks! (even the elusive red panda, spotted bears, rusty spotted cat & pallas mamá cat and her little ones)
Both parks offer free parking, which made our visit stress-free right from the start. The volunteers andanimal rangers were approachable happily answering questions and sharing insights about the animals.
The facilities in both parks were well maintained—from the toilets and coffee shops to the picnic areas and rubbish bins. Everything was clean, tidy, and thoughtfully arranged for visitors.
Howletts is a flat park, which makes for a relaxed walking experience. In contrast, Port Lympne is much hillier, but with a moderate level of fitness, you can comfortably explore the whole park. We managed to visit every enclosure and stop at all the animal areas in around 3–4 hours per park.
Port Lympne also offers several on-site dining options, making it easy to grab a proper meal, snack, or coffee between animal sightings.
This short trip was a wonderful mix of nature, comfort, and unique experiences. Whether it was thanks to the pleasant weather or the excellent setup of both parks, we were genuinely impressed with how much we saw and enjoyed. It brought back great memories of Bio Park Valencia,Spain. Highly recommend this to families, couples, or anyone looking for a short UK wildlife escape.

Port Lympne Safari Park – Unforgettable Experience!
We had an incredible stay at Port Lympne – everything from the accommodation to the amazing staff exceeded our expectations. The golf buggy was a brilliant touch and made exploring the park even more fun – definitely a highlight for the whole family! The animals were truly spectacular, and my son was absolutely blown away by how close we could get to them. The food was outstanding as well – delicious and plentiful. This was a truly memorable trip, and we’re already looking forward to coming back!

Turner Contemporary is a striking international art gallery located in Kent, offering dramatic spaces to showcase the works of JMW Turner and contemporary artists. The modern building provides stunning sea views, making it an ideal venue for weddings. Visitors can enjoy rotating modern exhibitions, including pieces by renowned artists like Grayson Perry and Carlos Amorales. Situated at the site where Turner once stayed, the gallery celebrates his connection to Margate and forms part of the town's lively art scene.
Always clean, tidy and have great exhibitions- free entry. Lovley little cafe area, decent prices and clean toilets. Right in the center of Margate, food market opposite, beach and parking close by. Parking behind from £2 an hour. I found the exhibit quite moving and a very interesting, always worth looking online for whats on.

The Turner Contemporary is in a great location, right by Margate Beach, with lovely sea views from the large windows inside.
I visited on a weekend and it was quite busy. Entry is free, and there’s a quick security check at the entrance. There is a big gift shop, clean toilets, and a café. The gallery itself is spacious and spread over a few floors, with large halls. We saw an exhibition showcasing photography focused on British history and human rights.
While the space is impressive, I found the number of exhibits quite limited and the overall experience a bit underwhelming. It was an okay visit, but nothing was particularly memorable for me.

I recently visited the “RESISTANCE: How Protest Shaped Britain and Photography Shaped Protest” exhibition at Turner Contemporary, and it was fantastic.
The museum’s architecture, designed by David Chipperfield, is striking, with its minimalist design and natural light pouring into the exhibition spaces. Located by the sea, it offers stunning views that complement the exhibits perfectly.
The exhibition itself explores the role of photography in British protests, featuring powerful works that capture key moments in history. Steve McQueen’s contribution added a unique depth to the show. The entire experience was immersive, thought-provoking, and definitely worth seeing.

It’s absolutely amazing to me as in experience. Each room of the gallery is managed and arranged nicely according to the growth of time. Each picture captured not the objects but also (in my opinion) the emotions of the people in specific, and the changes of the periods in general.
Can’t believe it’s closed not long after my visit but hopefully it can be opened again soon. And please do donation if you’re happy, this place deserves it.

Saw the Steve McQuuen exhibition on resistance. It's been a while since I've seen something so raw, real & visceral.
Many of the photos were from events when I was growing up. I'll confess I had to step out for a bit to regroup as it was quite emotive.
Well done to Margate for holding this, London can't seem to do exhibitions that are brave and make you think these days ...

Excellent building that is currently hosting an inspirational exhibition of photography illustrating the struggles that have gradually won rights and advanced awareness. It covers from the Suffrage movement onwards.

It is a beautiful art gallery. I had a lovely experience. Sited by the sea side. The view outside is breathtaking. It is a beautiful place to visit on a lovely summer day.
Dover Castle, located on England's eastern flank, has a rich history dating back to the Iron Age. The castle boasts medieval underground works and war-time tunnels that offer captivating views and tours. Originally fortified in the 1st century, it was later modified for artillery warfare by Henry VIII. The Napoleonic Wars saw the addition of a network of tunnels with gun positions and casemates dug into the cliff.
I think this is one of the best castles to visit in the British isles. I've been to about 15 castles between Wales, Scotland, England, Ireland. This one was beautifully preserved, and I love that you can ascend all the way to the top of the keep to get some great views of Dover. The guides inside the keep offered some very insightful information and were very good at answering my questions about the history of the castle.
There were plenty of exhibits, plaques, videos that did a great job of explaining the castle's rich history also.
I also enjoyed visiting the Roman lighthouse and the Saxon Church nearby, these were free to visit once you had paid for the Dover Castle entry.
There are also underground tunnels from world war II that you can explore.
Parking was easy and free, everyone working here was so kind and pleasant, there were plenty of bathrooms. I didn't see a restaurant, but I might be wrong on that as all the other sites we visited in Kent had good restaurants or cafes attached.
Tickets were about £30 for adults if you buy them on site, but I believe you can get them for less if you buy them online in advance through a third-party vendor. Either way, I found the price to be worth it for what you got. Dover Castle blew Leeds Castle out of the water completely, much more interesting and informative.

A magnificent castle with an incredible wealth of history to explore! Beautifully preserved and restored, the castle is filled with period-accurate furnishings that really do bring the past to life. The staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and outgoing. From the reign of King Henry II to its role in World War II, Dover Castle’s rich history is on full display. The underground tunnels are particularly awesome -- incredibly thought provoking.

Lovely castle and I would suggest to keep at least 3-4 hours to spend here as this is huge and there is a lot to cover. The history the view everything about this place is amazing. It is a English heritage site of you aren’t a member then the money paid for the visit is well worth it
Nausicaa Centre National De La Mer, located in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, is a renowned marine center that offers an immersive experience for visitors to discover the wonders of the sea. Since its opening in 1991, it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in northern France. The center features various aquariums and terrariums showcasing a wide range of marine life, including sharks, sea lions, penguins, and a touch pool.
It's a brilliant Aquarium, and Europe's largest! All the display tanks are immaculate, the fish and animals are lively. The main attraction viewing area is just outstandingly breathtaking! There's a huge seating area to sit and enjoy the display! The giant Manta ray is incredible to watch swim by! There are 2 restraunts to eat at, both reasonably priced. There's a Small gift shop too. Been twice and enjoyed it on both occasions,
Entry is cheap (compared to the UK) €30 for an adult. It's a 30 minute drive from Calais ferry port along one motorway. Ferry crossing (day return with P&O) was £37 for the car and 4 of us! Highly recommended as a day out for kids. You get the novelty. Of the ferry and the best Aquarium around. All cheaper than getting to London for an adult only!

What a fantastic place! There are 3 sections with main section about the oceans. The actual aquarium was amazing with stingrays, sharks and other fish. The section on climate change was very educational. There were penguins as a pleasant surprise at the end of the exhibit. The 3rd section had a sea lion show. It was a fabulous day out. Beware that parking at Q park has height restrictions so may not accommodate your car if it has a roof box. Street parking is tricky with small spaces and busy road. Food at the restaurant is okay but pricy. We also had audio sets which were a great deal for €3 each.

The area is lined with grand Norman-style houses and pine-shaded avenues leading to the exclusive beach-resort of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage. Beautiful soft and deep sand that went on for miles and miles. Very spacious. We were there early morning and basically had the beach to ourselves. We found some free parking on the residential streets a few roads down from the pay and display streets and only walked about 10 mins from car to beach. Lovely quaint restaurant/cafes and shops. And also a market selling clothes, crystals bags and food etc. Was a lovely day trip. Would recommend.

Unique premise and atmosphere here. Very grand buildings on outskirts and in surrounding forests, becoming more modern towards the seafront. Beautifully manicured areas outside of impressive hotels and apartment blocks. Rue Saint Jean is main pedestrian thoroughfare to the beach area with designer shops inland, giving way to bars and boutiques towards the seafront. Different every time we come, but always fantastic. The beach is very large and clean, with sunbeds and parasols available in season, with an adventure complex and various eateries and bars.

Great beach overall. We did go during the low season so there weren't many people but we did enjoy our time there. There are many bathrooms and places to eat to choose from on the beach front and many activities (horseback riding, sand sailing, kitesurfing...) are available.
Not sure we would have enjoyed it as much during the high season as the huge amount of parking space suggests that it can become very crowded.
The In Flanders Fields Museum, located in Ypres, Belgium, is housed within the town's Cloth Hall and is dedicated to studying the First World War. The museum aims to convey the futility of war through historical exhibits that depict the suffering and impact on both soldiers and civilians during wartime. Named after John McCrae's famous poem, the museum does not glorify war but rather serves as a poignant reminder of its horrors.
This museum is an absolute must for anyone visiting Ypres or surrounding area. Inside the stunning Cloth Hall, the museum is an immersive experience, explaining and exploring the First World War in Flanders 1914-1918. Suitable for all ages as there is an audio tour especially for children or young people, which has been beautifully thought out. There are many different interactive displays and lots of stories told from many different perspectives. We found it both fascinating and emotional and would happily go back to visit again as there was so much to discover.
The cafe was also good for light refreshments and a lovely book and souvenir shop.

A visit not to be missed. As we move further away from this horrific event, the lessons are even more important to share. The Museum is large so you will have lots to see. We paid up 2 extra euro for the tower portion but it can be missed, especially on a lower visibility day. The audio guide for 2 euro was definitely worth it. (NOTE: bring you corded headphones) the production is high quality with many interactive kiosks.

Heart rendering display of Belgium's appreciation of America's commitment and the cost during WWI. Young school children adopt a veteran and learn about him. There is a yearly ceremony to recognize those Americans lost. It is so sad to think of our current administration's lack of knowledge of history.
Menin Gate is a significant British war memorial located in Ypres, Belgium. It bears the names of 54,896 soldiers from the British and Commonwealth forces who went missing during World War I. The gate serves as a poignant reminder of the immense human sacrifice of war. Every day, visitors can witness the moving Last Post ceremony at this iconic site.
Brilliant memorial. Last post at 8pm every night is incredible, definitely worth going to, although maybe a bit crowded with lots of people also watching. Highlight of my trip to Ypres!

Definitely a place worthy of visiting, especially to view the Last Post ceremony which takes place every night. A fantastic tradition that can be very emotional for some spectators; most definitely on the special occasions when a visiting guest speaks. I would absolutely recommend this to everybody.

I found standing in the Menin Gate underneath the names of 54,954 men who died in the Ypres Salient, for whom no identifiable remains have ever been found, while the Last Post Ceremony took place profoundly moving. The Ceremony takes place at 18:00hrs every day of the week and there can be no better reminder of the carnage wreaked in the Salient, quite apart from the additional massive loss of life and limb generated by WWI. For anyone who harbours a feeling of debt to those who so perished one of the finest tributes I think they can display is to stand with head board during the Minutes Silence which forms part of every Last Post Ceremony. I attended two consecutive Ceremony's finding both emotional and humbling. Respect. Lest We Forget.
The Louvre-Lens Museum is a contemporary gallery that showcases artworks from the Louvre in Paris, as well as temporary exhibits. The Galerie du Temps offers a unique and minimalistic display of art from Europe, the Near East, Egypt, and India. Unlike traditional museums, the artworks are not hung on perimeter walls but are arranged geographically and chronologically to create a three-dimensional experience for visitors.
This is a hidden gem in the North of France. Louvre-Lens is a beautiful museum. The main exhibition gives in one big hall an oversight of art from -3500 BC till 19th century. Very good explanations and app. Unfortunately the temperarly exhibition was not opened, but the parc around the museum is also worth a visit. Don't forget to have a lunch (3-course) in the restaurant that is part of the museum.

The Mona Lisa has become a cruel joke. One of the most beautiful paintings you'll see but everyone has their back to it to take selfies. So you are looking at them not the Mona Lisa. This painting dominates the experience. Advantage is you get to see Liberty Leading the People and my favourite the statue and mosaics from Persia with very little crowds. I used a guide to usher us in which cost 40e but saved about 3 hours queuing so well worth it.

The Louvre-Lens may not be as vast as the Louvre in Paris, but it’s a remarkable museum in its own right. Its collection is impressive, and you can’t help but be drawn in. What makes it even more enjoyable is the lack of crowds, allowing you plenty of time to observe and fully immerse yourself in the art.

Amazing museum, an unexpected discovery. Permanent exhibition is great and free. We especially liked Egyptian pieces. We also visited the temporary exhibition afterwards, underworld, which was 11 euro but definitely worth it.
You can use the online audio guide on your phone for free. Don't forget to take your headphones. It is extremely informative. Not all pieces are marked so it is a bit difficult to find out if there is audio about a piece or not, but for the rest, it is one of the best guides I saw.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Louvre in Lens, and I want to take a moment to highlight an exceptional employee who truly made my experience unforgettable. This kind gentleman, originally from Hong Kong, went above and beyond to assist me during my visit.
From the moment I approached him with questions about the exhibits, his warm smile and genuine enthusiasm were evident. He took the time to share fascinating insights about the artworks and the history behind them, making me feel genuinely engaged and valued as a visitor. His extensive knowledge and passion for the museum were contagious, and it was clear that he takes great pride in his work.
What truly stood out was his kindness and willingness to help. Whether it was providing directions, recommending must-see pieces, or simply sharing a friendly conversation, he made my visit feel personal and special. It’s rare to encounter someone so dedicated and approachable in a busy environment like a museum.
Thank you for making my experience at the Louvre in Lens so memorable! Your kindness and expertise are truly appreciated, and I hope others get the chance to benefit from your wonderful service.

I had always wanted to visit the Louvre-Lens and I finally went on a Sunday. The bus lines were not running, so I had to walk from the train station. It is a very long walk, longer than what they advertise on the museum's website. The museum is in a beautiful building, and the visit is relatively short. They have relatively few, but very interesting works of art spanning several centuries. The gallery is one large open space, and I noticed kids get less bored with this configuration compared to a regular museum. The indoor picnic area is quite convenient, I strongly recommend bringing your own food. Oh, and it is free. Worth a visit!

The Belfry of Bruges is a medieval bell tower that stands at an impressive 83 meters high, making it a striking feature in the city's skyline. It is a cherished landmark with a treasure chamber and houses a 47-belled carillon. Climbing its 366 steps rewards visitors with panoramic views of Bruges from the top. The unique chimes of the carillon add to the experience as you ascend.
We visited the Belfort and climbed the narrow staircases to the top. It was remarkably well preserved. We were fascinated by the clock bell mechanism. The views from the top were quite stunning. It was well worth the climb.
There are some larger floors throughout the climb showcasing the history of the tower.
We were told, on a good day you can see well past the coast and the sea.
Definitely a must do when in Bruges.

Paid 15 euros to go up the tower. You have to book a slot - so be aware you can’t necessarily just pitch and buy a ticket, it could be that the morning is fully booked and you must go in the afternoon etc. It’s well organised, they don’t let everyone go up at once, you go in stages so that there’s no congestion on the stairs. It’s 366 stairs to the top, very interesting and definitely worth it. Magnificent views and you see the bells. Stairs are much steeper at the top but very manageable
Hannah M — Google review
This is a very magical tower almost 500 years old and had very few adaptions over the years, which is a real testament to the people who built it.
The views are brilliant from the top but it is very windy and quite cold. You also have to contend with the bells tolling.
The climb, although a lot of steps, has multiple breaks so you can relax if you need and unless you’re in very bad health it is a doable climb.
I’ve climbed this twice and would go again simply for the view.
Staff at entrance were friendly and spoke multiple languages with ease.
If you’re seeing multiple museums and sites in Brugge then get the gallery pass, but otherwise this is 15 euros, which I think is just about valid.
Caïna V — Google review
Well worth the 350 odd steps to get to the top of the tower. Get good views.
We had a good experience as booked ahead thus didn't have to wait. Entry and exit are monitored as only certain number allowed at any one time.

Space is very tight and if you have issues with knees or hips or claustrophobic then don't do this climb.
On a sunny day it's beautiful. If foggy or bad don't bother.

To go up, it’s 366 steps. It’s not too bad because there are areas where you can rest and catch your breath. The view is very beautiful. You only have 20 minutes total to go up, enjoy the view, and come back down, so I did find the entrance a bit expensive…15 euros for such a short time.
Cecilia 0 — Google review
Absolutely worth the €15 ticket to clime the tower. Views of the city stunning. You need a head for heights, and be fit enough for 300 odd stairs, which get very narrow at the top.

The Belfry is a medieval bell tower located in the heart of Bruges. Visitors can climb a narrow, steep staircase of 366 steps to reach the top, where they are rewarded with panoramic views over the city.
Brendan S — Google review
Worth the climb. However be warned if you are a little claustrophobic like me it does get smaller as you go up. But thankfully they have got it right with the number of tickets they allow in at one time. Meaning that although you do have to pass people on the stairs, it isn’t too crowded. Nice to see all the bells working. Views are good, but limited. You can’t see all the way round and the mesh restricts the views of the market. Still very enjoyable and I’m glad my son made me do it.

We arrived just before they opened and got into the castle very quickly. An audio guide is included in the price of admission.
You are given two options of guides. The first is an hour and thirty minutes. The second only 30 minutes. The longer one is presented by a comedian and is definitely more expansive then the second.
As comedians tend to do he provides a fair bit of comical narrative about the castle that isn't necessary strictly historically accurate. But he makes it clear when he is guessing or being fanciful. This guide may not be for people who prefer a more strick historical guide. But I really enjoyed it.
If you're coming later in the day I would advise buying tickets in advance as by the time we left the waiting time to enter had gone up significantly.
It is really worth the time to explore.

What a nice surprise! A must visit when you go to Ghent! The audio tour comes with the purchase of the ticket and it is presented in a very funny and entertaining way. The castle tour is self paced. The castle is well preserved and the views of the city from the towers are great. It has a ton of stairs up and down so make sure you can do that before you start climbing. I would highly recommend you include it on your sightseeing list.
Ghent City Hall, also known as Stadhuis, is a remarkable architectural gem situated in the heart of Ghent on the historic market square. The building showcases a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles due to its construction during a transitional period. One side features lush Gothic details while the other exudes the grandeur of Italian Renaissance palazzos. The city hall serves as a popular wedding venue with its stunning Wedding Chapel adorned with beautiful stained-glass windows.
Perfect place to spend a beautiful evening with lots of liveliness, happening, foody square. Bit at distance from train station. Take a tram to reach there. Nearby canal ride and the. Ost famous Leonidas chocolate outlet.

They’re currently renovating the one half of the outside of the building. But you can still see the other half and it is so impressive! Such beautiful architecture!

Wonderful location and surroundings at night. Feels like time travel into the past, with historic buildings in the area, no cars due to the pedestrian zone, and only a few tourists around. I couldn’t imagine Gent being so beautiful, but the City Hall is definitely one of the landmarks.

Everyone talks about Brugge but let me tell you Ghent we fell in love with. Same feel and look but less popular and I found to be more beautiful. Definitely stop here it is so so beautiful and romantic and a place where they captured a time way before we were here. Castles and waffles heaven. You won't be disappointed.
Pairi Daiza is a zoo and botanical garden situated in Brugelette, Belgium, on the grounds of a former Cistercian Abbey. Spanning 65 hectares, it is home to over 7,000 animals from around the world, including rare and endangered species like lions, pandas, koalas, gorillas, and lemurs.
Only found this place after searching for awhile. The layout and presentation of this zoo was excellent. It was a very big place and we stayed until closing time. There were not as many animals as I thought there were in each enclosure. An example was one enclosure where there was one capybara and one tapir. This was a shame as I thought the environment made for the animals were excellent. The aquarium however was very good, although small. Altogether I took over 400 pictures of the environment but only 80 of animals. Food wise, most of the smaller places were closed leaving only the buffet restaurant open. Although the food there was good however I thought it was quite expensive. Overall, I fully recommend a full day visit to this zoo and it was excellent. If there were more animals in each enclosure it would have become more than superb.

It is such an amazing parc! I had a really good time here, and i'm planning to revisit it one day!
We had a school trip here and it was 10:00-15:00, the parc is gigantic, so we didn't have time to see all the animals. But we saw all the animals that we really wanted to and took a LOT of photos!
It's an amazing experience to be here!
