If you're in the area you need to try this. You need to go upstairs to find it but it is a hidden gem. Great service from the wonderful lady. Please try, if you like caribbean food it's well worth a visit
My 1st time trying food at the Original Caribbean spice and boy was I EXTREMELY disappointed. Mind you I travelled from London Bridge in search of some soul food - Caribbean food. I mentioned this to the owner that served me too. I bought portion of chicken stew meal and portion of oxtail meal. There was plenty of rice and peas and that was the best part of the meal, but it had no gravy to go with it - just dry meat and no sauce. It was cold so clearly not freshly made today! The only part of my quiet large order were x2 slices of the most amazing fruit cake, besides the cake slices, in short I wasted my money and that is so upsetting and I regret my decision to go over from the opposite side Kaieteur Kitchen Original. You expect to get your money's worth - food that is edible and of good quality!
Kaieteur Kitchen Original - on the opposite side of the Original Caribbean spice still on castle square 1st floor, I had bought the most amazing curry mutton, with Roti and beautiful side of spinach. Had it not been for that meal I bought prior to stopping by the Original Caribbean spice- it would have be much worse of a day than it turned out. I am still wishing so many hours later, that I had spent that £31 ( £7+ for cakes) at the Guyanese place called Kaieteur Kitchen Original. That was the tastiest and most delicious caribbean food Ive had in a long time and it comes with plenty gravy that is beautifully seasoned and meat falling of the bone cooked to perfection.
The owner of Kaieteur Kitchen Original greeted me as I entered with such warmth and so friendly. She introduced herself and showed me the menu, asked about dietary needs/preferences then helped me decide on meal which I wish I had bought more dishes from this place and saved myself the anger/regret of getting food not worth the money I was charged at Original Caribbean spice.
Anyway we live and learn. Original Caribbean spice is not the kind of place I would even mention to anyone - and I am the type to brag about amazing food that I've experienced and enjoyed. Sadly not this place and I will not be going back here ever again.
From an extremely disappointed customer.
I recently went here and whilst the food was okay.. the service was slow and I found a big fly in my food (curry goat with peas and rice) I went ahead to explain/show to the owner the fly and there was no form of compensation or empathy. I felt quite sick/ nauseous afterwards as the fly was very visible. I will not be partaking in any other food as I noticed there kitchen wasn’t as well kept as anticipated and was probably initially overlooked on my end. The overall customer service could have been handled better.
Take a seat. Good food comes to those who wait. Tasted like home in every bite, especially the homemade sorrel. Curried goat, rice, coleslaw, macaroni pie, spice bun and drink was well worth it.
very very delicious food! I particularly loved the oxtail stew. Great portions and prices too :)
