About
The Swan and Mitre is a Georgian pub that offers a variety of guest beers, delicious comfort food, and the opportunity to watch sports on TV. The establishment features antique floor-to-ceiling mirrors that add to its charm. During my recent visit with friends, we were impressed by the friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate families with children, providing high chairs and a spacious area. The beer was refreshing and reasonably priced compared to other nearby pubs.Reviews
The Swan and Mitre is a beloved pub known for its welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, great value for money, and delicious food. Customers praise the Sunday dinners as the best in town and appreciate the extra effort put into holiday decorations. While some mention slow service due to kitchen issues, they highlight that the staff goes above and beyond to ensure a pleasant experience. The pub offers a variety of food options from light snacks to mains, with well-presented dishes that cater to everyone's taste. Regulars enjoy events like DJ/Karaoke nights and commend the lovely beer garden along with entertainment options like pool tables and dart boards.
Popped in on a Friday afternoon for some lunch. Fish Friday so naturally ordered he fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish was amazing! Was very tasty and flaky, great crisp batter. Also had an Americano, was disappointed they didn't have sweetener, only sugar but was a nice cuppa. Tried the jam rolly polly WOW! I would go back for even just a nice coffee and the rolly polly, it is awesome and so glad I tried it! Sat in the back beer garden area as it was a nice day, nice and relaxed. Staff were friendly and attentive. We've been here before, usually with our dog and we won't hesitate to keep frequenting the place when we can. Two main dish lunches were on special for 14.99 add 1.50 for fish and chips....makes it an affordable lunch! Vegetarian/vegan options available. David Bowie held his wedding reception at this pub! Only fix I would make is to have sweeteners for people's tea/coffee and also maybe add sweet potato fries? Although I did enjoy my chips.
Visited again 26th of November for a bit of a late lunch. What more to say? Jam rolly Polly remains not to be missed! And the fish in chips is an amazing piece of cod, delicious totally recommend it. Rocking Rudolph is a great seasonal beer, give it a try! Rab, the main server (or at least it's the guy who we seem to always get) is amazing! He will make your visit to the pub memorable and goes out of his way to make you happy. Noticed too while we were there, they are offering a 4 course dinner on Christmas Day for 51.99quid!! Not a bad idea, definitely tempting. Will we be back? Of course!!
Well 1st time we had been here got to say the place feels like a community pub, friendly staff, I would say a proper traditional pub,and natalie made us feel welcome, food was excellent! Well done 👏 see you definitely tomorrow!!
I am a notorious food critic. I hate eating out as I'm always disappointed. I wasn't this time! The menu is very poor for vegetarians and vegans, unfortunately. So I had the fish and chips and my friend had the katsu chicken dish - and we were both very impressed. The only downside was that the malted bread they sent out with the meal wasn't buttered, having butter pats placed on top, and so the bread dried very quickly. Costs were reasonable, coming in at £18 for the two meals (they do two meals for £15 but the fish & chips adds an additional £3 charge). The staff were very friendly, the place had quite a nice buzz as the evening wore on (a Friday) though was very quiet when we arrived for food, and the building itself is a nice traditional 'old-style' pub, with screens for sport.
Forgot to take pics so you'll just have to take my word that it's good eating and a nice atmosphere, and worth paying a visit. I will definitely return.
On arrival the Christmas table settings were lovely. The staff were so kind and organised.
Every guest had a wrapped up gift of chocolates and Christmas crackers. Our daughter totally loved that. From drinks to each course the staff were on it. We enjoyed the food and the warm festive atmosphere. The chef was really creative with the Christmas pudding desert which we totally enjoyed. Vegan options for each course was excellent. I think they made a huge effort to make Christmas day amazing. On that we do plan to visit the pub more frequently.
Popped into The Swan & Mitre for a pint realised there was a live band playing which hasn't happened in years!
Great atmosphere great people great music. The new swan is just what the area needs!
