My husband came for the birds while I came for the foliage. We spent about 2 hours here walking along the main easy track, and checking out the upper dam and suspension bridge. There was only one restroom stop along the path, so plan ahead. We enjoyed walking through the lush greenery and hearing the different bird songs. The gift shop and cafe in the welcome center were such added bonuses to the experience, too. Love the Maori language and images of the birds and plants scattered throughout the paths, too. 🌳
Fun experience! Beaut on a sunny day although parking was quite limited and difficult to find, so keep that in mind. All of the walks and Zealandia itself was very pretty, with lovely native wildlife and bush everywhere. Spotting some tuatara was fun and finishing up at the cafe was a nice way to end the trip. 🦎
Had a beautiful tour of Zealandia guided by Des in a small group. The grounds are lovely and well-kept with the sounds of various birds and insects throughout.
Des was very knowledgeable and you could tell he really enjoys showing people around, pointing out the wildlife, and answering any questions you have.
The guided trail is mostly flat with two areas of short ascents/descents. There are optional trails for those interested in steeper or rougher terrain.
If you have any interest in going for a nature walk and seeing some birds definitely book a tour or do a self-guided walk!
