Great atmosphere, great beer and a amazing food truck.

Super cool location. However, $32 for a tasting paddle of 4x150ml is ridiculous. The beer was okay. $12 dollars per 330ml is still quite steep, but a bit more understandable for 1 beer. In a town with so many awesome wineries, it would be nice to have a great brewery for us beer lovers.. this doesn't quite hit the mark.
Aiden H — Google review
Lovely brewery with great beer and value for money platters. Can recommend the Ohio APA. Testing paddles with options of 4 or 8 and half or full glasses. A window provides a view into the brewery.

Very friendly and quite unique venue. Personally. Great pilsner shame the ginger beer is no longer sold. There is a food truck on site now too.

A busy little place with a great selection of locally brewed beers. They have a good value tasting board option if you're not sure what to get. They had good seating but I'd recommend booking on a nice day as they were busy and fully booked.

Arrived to staff throwing open sign out asked if they were open as it was after 12 and received a grunt In reply. was looking forward to trying some beers but will be heading to winery Instead in hope of friendlier service very disappointing after such lovely people in other shops we had visited.

If you’re not a wine lover then this place is for you. I don’t drink craft beer but they had a cider on offer which was ok. The service area is small but there are loads of tables outside and they had 10+ flavours on offer.

Poppies Martinborough is a peaceful retreat located in the heart of Martinborough, within walking distance to several vineyards and wineries. The accommodation offers quiet and comfortable rooms, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploration. Guests can enjoy their own liquid treasures while watching the sunset from the bistro table out back.
Gorgeous spot with attention to detail in venue to food. We had a tasting and then a platter, which was fabulous. Asked for more bread in order to have everything from it and happily given more. The dessert was very good too.

Love Poppies!! Its our second time visiting poppies and it did not disappoint!! $15pp for wine tasting and you'll be reimbursed if you purchase some wine 🍷 The food platters are super delicious which I highly recommend getting on any visit! All the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

Poppies is divine in every way, an absolute MUST to visit. The sharing platter was beautifully curated, and the wine and tastings were exceptional. The staff here are a credit to this winery. Everyone is super friendly and knowledgeable. A perfect spot for a relaxed, gourmet experience.

This place is exceptional. The wine, the staff, the scenic setting. The variety of flavours on the platter was outstanding. Can’t speak highly enough of this place
Glenn B — Google review
I finally found the time to write a review for this winery — and what an experience it was. We visited several wineries across New Zealand, including Waiheke, Central Otago, Wanaka, Martinborough, and of course, Marlborough. This one stood out as our absolute favorite, for several reasons: The wine quality was outstanding — beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and genuinely interesting, especially considering the excellent value for money. The lunch was exceptional. The small, curated menu allowed the kitchen to focus on quality and detail. Every dish was delicious, refined, and indulgent without being over the top. The staff were incredibly warm and professional. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, yet the service was flawless. When a sudden downpour hit, they swiftly and smoothly moved all guests inside without skipping a beat. Many of the team members were young and likely there for a summer experience, but they handled everything like seasoned pros. All in all, fantastic wines, an unforgettable meal, and truly lovely people. I wholeheartedly recommend this winery to anyone visiting the region.
Marzio C — Google review
A fantastic place to Tatar beautiful wines and have the most exquisitely platter. Chef Will has put together the most delicious collection of flavours and textures. The stand out is the crispy skin pork belly. I had to call him out and congratulate him and he gave me a few more end bits ( these they give to the staff usually so I only ate one as I felt guilty!!). The eponymous Poppy took us through her great selections of wines and was a total delight. The beautiful dinning room, tasting room and vineyard is a total joy. A real must when visiting this region.

Amazing! Gorgeous location with friendly knowledgeable staff. The platter was sensational. Wines superb. Cannot fault Poppies.
Lorie M — Google review
Amazing tasting with Marine, she’s full with knowledge and passionate. I’m French from Alsace and I can tell the late harvest Gewurtzraminer is absolutely great, the Pinot aswell, gutted we were to early to try the Pinot noir and Syrah but next time ☺️ the venue is beautiful, wish we would have come earlier to enjoy the garden and the sun

Absolutely the best place for dinner in Martinborough. We were well looked after by Toby. He picked us up from our accommodation. The menu is fantastic and the plating exceptional. The restaurant had lovely Christmas decorations and nice music on. All in all nothing else we could ask for

Beautiful place! The service, hospitality and warmth received at this place is second to none!!! The staff introduce their dishes with pride in such great details and recommendations to pair drinks with food ordered is as good as what you get at fine dining restaurants. Really mind-blowing! Wasn’t expecting such service. In addition every single dish is wonderful! The meats were cooked just right, tender and juicy. The sides complemented the dishes well. Wine tasting experience was so much better than what I had experienced in France! This is one place I will never forget and would highly recommend.

I have celebrated many important occasions at Tirohana - birthdays, our wedding, New Year’s Eves, friends getting together - and yesterday our Dad’s 90th birthday. At the end of the day, Dad couldn’t stop thanking us. Thank you Tirohana for all that you do to create wonderful memories - providing wonderful dining experiences, beautiful settings, and enjoyable events. Yesterday I really enjoyed Robert’s friendly, and informative navigation of the menu, and serving of the food. Top notch singing of “happy birthday” too. Absolutely amazing food, combining wonderful flavours in all the dishes I had (beetroot, feta and orange salad, beef cheek, and rhubarb and ginger soufflé). Yesterday also reminded me what it was like to enjoy the perfect amount of time between courses to truly enjoy the complete fine dining experience. Thank you.

We had such a lovely time here. The scenery was beautiful and the (I think owner) was absolutely lovely. A great place to spend our anniversary. Can 10000/10 recommend the pork belly, and the wine was fantastic. Coming from Melbourne I can only hope we will be back one day. Absolutely 5 stars. I would give more if I could!

Palliser Estate Winery is a must-visit destination in Martinborough, New Zealand. Established in 1984, it stands as one of the region's leading wineries with groundbreaking vineyards that repurpose local farmlands. The estate offers year-round wine tasting sessions and features award-winning Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Visitors can also enjoy meals from the on-site cooking school and explore the lovely conference space for special occasions.
Enjoyed a paddle of 3 different wines and a Riesling in a relaxed atmosphere with view over the vineyard. The Riesling was fabulous (as Germans we are very experienced with Riesling, so thumbs up)! Also a nice touch: 5$ of the paddle price will be donated for a good cause. @ Owners: Give the girl with the curly hair (unfortunately we did not get her name) a big raise!! She was the perfect hostess: professional, experienced, lovely and authentic personality, always with a smile and good mood, giving us good recommendations of the wines. It was a perfect visit!

A must visit to Palliser Estate cellar door if you are in Martinborough. A wine lover’s paradise. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. Georgia who attended us is joyful and made our day. 😁

Really nice vibe here. Food presentation is excellent. The squid ink risotto was undercooked but the staff replaced it with a different main of our choice. Good choice of indoor and outdoor seating here
Deep B — Google review
We had a lovely day for a relaxed wine tasting and platter at the Palliser Estate Winery. We opted for the Aromatic Flight to start and really enjoyed the savvy and the rose. The platter was varied and quite generous - and enjoyed by us both. All in all, a pleasant couple of hours at a reasonable price.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Palliser Estate Winery, and it was an unforgettable experience! The drive from Wellington was a breeze, making it an easy getaway. The restaurant boasts an elegant and timeless design that perfectly complements the beautiful surroundings. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, enhancing the welcoming atmosphere. Now, let’s talk about the food! I was particularly impressed by the homemade squid ink pasta—absolutely divine! Each bite was bursting with flavor, showcasing the freshness of their Italian dishes. To top it off, their Riesling is simply the best! It was so refreshing and paired wonderfully with my meal. I highly recommend Palliser Estate Winery for anyone looking for a delightful dining experience. I can’t wait to return!

My favourite winery in Martinborough, after countless visits to the region over the years. Andy is always great at the cellar door, very helpful and welcoming. We recently joined the wine club and got to experience the tour with elevated wine tastings and absolutely loved it! Belen was fantastic, very knowledgeable and her food pairing ideas made us all salivate.

Te Kairanga Winery is located in Martinborough, surrounded by other wineries and attractions. The vineyard offers tastings of their award-winning Runholder Pinot Noir 2015, paired with delicious food prepared by Chef Mark Soper. Visitors can also enjoy the excellent rose and Te Tera Sauvignon Blanc. While signage can be confusing, the dining experience at Run Holder is highly recommended and reservations are advised due to its popularity.
Stunning setting within the vineyards. Friendly hosts. Food is one of the best in Marty

Very professional staff member. She explained all about their history, vision for the future, got us to sample different wines and the gin in 3 different ways... lol. Exciting times as they build their new cellar door, distillery and cave.
Simon C — Google review
Just visited to buy some of their excellent rosé and the helpful lady in the tasting room introduced us to Te Tera Sauvignon Blanc which we also bought. One big gripe though. None of the roadside signage says TK, only referring to Runholder. This is unhelpful for out of towners like us as we were really confused and had to stop and ask a lady picnicking by the road.
Sharron C — Google review
Excellent selection of red wines - worth the long bike ride!
Chris F — Google review
Such a disappointment as we had heard such good things about this place . We arrived for our reserved tasting on Saturday 3rd April and the place was busy. We had a reserved table and were seated. Our first tasting came 10 minutes later and the lady was too rushed to really explain the history of the vineyard or even the wine , they ran out of sheets showing the wines so we had one for the four of us. We then waited , then waited, then waited , the a bus full of people turned up and we waited and waited. After 45 minutes we left and went to our next vineyard. Such a shame as we were looking forward to taste their Chardonnay , Pinot noir and their Gin, but was not meant to be .
Charlie S — Google review
The customer service was appalling. After hearing great things about the food. We arrived ordered our wine (which was hardly a glass) and food, sat at a table until the lady behind the counter asked us to move out on to the ground outside for another pair of customers who where for some reason more important. Our food arrived to the table and the people sat at our table felt terrible and offered us to sit with them so we could eat our food. It just blows my mind that someone would even consider moving seated customers. She could have asked us if we were ok to share the table with these new people as there was enough room. Absolutely appalling!

Union Square Bistro & Bar offers a welcoming ambiance and top-notch service. The menu boasts an array of delectable dishes, including Cheese Souffle, Seafood Boullabaise, Lamb Parpadelle, Duck and Mushroom Tortellini, and Bluff Oysters. Notably, their venison burger made with free-range New Zealand venison is a standout item.
The service here was attentive, considerate and food came out at a great pace with a fantastic ambience in the room. The food was presented exceptionally well, a special mention to the 'Crab & Chive Tortellini' for the superb flavour of the seafood bisque and another special mention to the 'Beef Eye Fillet' for being cooked exactly as requested which was faultless as were the other components of the dish. Thank you, we will be back again!

Lovely little place in the cutest little town! The service was nice and the food is high quality for an affordable price. I recommend the flight of 5 local wines to go with your meal!

A very mixed birthday dinner for six. Service was pretty good but I would have liked a water jug. Steaks were cold but completely replaced. Friend was unable to bring a birthday cake but a candle was put on a cocktail for her which was a nice touch. A special dessert of mousse and cherries was superb. Hubby loved his lamb rack but squid was too chewy. Second steaks were beautifully cooked. My pork was too dry for me but another party member enjoyed hers. Sauces were delicious and complimented the meals. Overall we had a lovely night. We had come here as it was my friends favourite place and the hotel rooms were lovely. Early in the new year.
Glenn I — Google review
This place punches above its weight as a pub bistro and provides comparable or better fare than some others in the locale that claim restaurant status. We had a rack of lamb and beef steak which were well presented. We were delighted with the mixed greens side which seemed to be tossed in a soft poached egg. Delicious.
Pinky — Google review
We were most disappointed with the service we didn't get at your establishment. We understand that you were adequately busy on fair day, however, there were more than enough staff around. We were seated and a drink order taken and given menu's. Next thing the waitress came back, took the breakfast menu's away and we were given a market day lunch menu and we never saw her again!!! We sat a little dumbfounded and waited for more human contact, but everyone just walked past us! I got up, waited at least 10 minutes to pay for our drinks and left. I had made a dinner booking that night for my mother and I, which I cancelled that afternoon. We drove into town centre and looked around for a meal and just happened to end up at Union Square again. We stood waiting to be seated yet again, while a fairly empty restaurant lay ahead of us and a staff member took a table of 6 order's and did not make any acknowledgement at having seen us waiting. In the end we walked out and found a fabulously lovely lady who greeted us with open arms and ushered us to a table across the road. We will NOT be back after two attempts to dine here and I was shocked to see an email asking for my dining experience comments after I had used the app to cancel my booking.

Great atmosphere, good food and service. Though we’ve moved on from trying to be old fashion fancy, it’s not a Michelin star restaurant I’d align the service to be more casual. It’s upright in a way instead of fun for good but not that sort of food. However I’m being very picky it’s overall really good. FYI GREAT COFFEE

The Runholder in Martinborough is a multifaceted establishment that combines Te Kairanga, Martinborough Vineyard, and Lighthouse Gin. It offers an array of experiences including a restaurant, tasting room, and distillery. The venue has evolved from a vineyard-traveling food truck into an all-day restaurant serving Middle Eastern-style cuisine in a historic building. The warm hospitality and exceptional service provided by the staff contribute to the unique and unforgettable experience at The Runholder.
The Runholder Cellar Door and Restaurant exceeded all expectations! From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed by the warm and knowledgeable staff. Their passion for wines and deep understanding of the region’s history made our visit even more enjoyable. We had a 5 PM wine tasting followed by a 6 PM dinner, and the experience was seamless. They carry an impressive selection of brands, with Martinborough Vineyard being my personal favorite. The tasting was informative and well-paced, making it a fantastic way to explore different flavors. Dinner was nothing short of exceptional. Every detail—from pricing to portion sizes, presentation to taste—was spot on. I could hardly find a flaw! The combination of amazing food, great wines, and outstanding hospitality made for an unforgettable evening. Runholder is a place I will definitely return to, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an outstanding wine and dining experience.

Foods good, in Aussie it would be high end gastro pub food. The staff were friendly and the views out across the vines are beautiful. The Gin is excellent, and we started with a couple of those on the back deck. I have given the benefit of the doubt ass to be honest the whole experience was rushed and a little frazzled. It was a very busy day at the tasting tables, and I think the staff had had a very busy couple of days and it showed. After tasting the Pinot at Pinot Palooza I expected more

We booked in as a group of 15 to celebrate a 75th birthday. Started off with a wine & gin tasting, and then shifted to the restaurant for dinner. It was excellent - everyone throughly enjoyed themselves. The setting was epic, food was amazing (everyone highly recommended the lamb and salmon), and the service was great. Thank you team. We will be back.

I dined here with a friend a few months ago to celebrate her birthday. This was my second visit and it did not disappoint. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. We ordered the sourdough bread with whipped truffle butter. Unfortunately the bread was hard and a bit dry...the only downside to the meal. I ordered the Wagyu Beef Bavette which was so tender and delicious and beautifully presented. My friend had the Crisp Market Fish which was salmon and was very tasty. We had the Potato Gratin and a salad as our sides. The salad had radicchio in with the green leaves which was not to our taste. For dessert my friend ordered the Hazelnut Torta and I had the Mango Sorbet. We both enjoyed a glass of TK Rosé. All in all a fabulous experience and we will definitely be back.

I had an amazing dining experience at Runholder in Martinborough. The restaurant's charming ambiance and welcoming staff immediately set the tone for a delightful meal. The menu offered a diverse range of dishes. I was particularly impressed with the creativity and flavors in each dish I tried. We loved the octopus and in fact had to order it thrice! The wine selection perfectly complemented the meal, and the attentive service added to the overall enjoyment of the day. I highly recommend Runholder for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Martinborough.

On vacation, we decided to have lunch of a beautiful pizza cooked in a wood fire, in the middle of vines whose grape clusters were not yet harvested. Hand-picked, I suppose. the pizzas are presented on large wooden boards. they are excellent. they can be accompanied by wines produced by the owners. we preferred to buy a bottle and take it away. All that was missing was the espresso to accompany my tiramisu.... 😜

What can I say more? If you want good pizza, this is it. I can’t fault it. The food is relatively affordable, compared to the usual prices you’ll pay for wood-fired pizza at other vineyards. The crust is cooked perfectly and the tomato base is sweet and juicy. The atmosphere is a relaxed vibe that reminds me of being out in Adelaide on a warm summer’s day. It’s not elitist and the servers are warm and welcoming. The drinks were also the best I had that day in Martinborough. The wine, particularly the chardonnay and rose were fantastic. However, I think the Italian Lager beats all the wine I tried.
