Poppies Fish & Chips is a highly-rated restaurant known for its buzzing atmosphere, helpful staff, and delicious fish. While some reviewers found the food disappointing with overcooked fish and soggy chips, others praised the crispy batter, flavorful haddock, and fresh fries. The vintage aesthetics of the place add to its charm along with fantastic music from the 50s to 70s. Despite mixed reviews on taste consistency, Poppies Fish & Chips offers an authentic East End experience with fresh ingredients sourced daily.
Heard a lot about this place so wanted to give it a try.
The place is packed and buzzing with patrons.
The staff are helpful and attentive.
Food was good but nothing amazing. Good batter, lovely fish. Our fish was not hot hot but it was okay. I still like having fish and ships in a paper tray and picking it up with wooden forks.
The atmosphere was decent because of the decor, everything else not even a one to be fair. I’m not even sure which one of the four locations we went to. The fish and chips had no taste at all. It was extremely oily. It upset me also that they required both people dining to mandatory but at least an appetizer or starter. The waiter who was very rude said the calamari is very good. It was very expensive and it had only four pieces. There was more oil than calamari with it. I barely ate half of one and told them to throw this in the trash. He said you need to pay for it anyway. I told him usually most people have to pay for their mistakes so don’t worry it won’t happen again by me. As of right now this restaurant chain has a four star rating but I really don’t know how. I wouldn’t have ate their food even if they paid me what I paid for it to them. Save yourself the money and headache by dining with them. Let my review be your warning and don’t let the others review fool you.
Great Fish & Chips and waiter was honest when he told us "biggest is for two, no more..." Thanks. At least we ordered two different small ones. Great food and atmosphere, fantastic music (50s, 60s, 70s)
Really love this fish and chips brand with a vintage aesthetics at their three locations.
The fried cod is just huge and the smashed peas are very flavourful, it balances perfectly the thickness of fried food.
The calamari did not have flavour it only had it when you dip it in the souce. The drinks are okay. Service was quick it took them only 5 min. To make a meal. When we had cone there was not a waiting line after we finish'd eating there was a long waiting line recomend going before 13.00 .
