The Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site in Laramie is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and families alike. This restored 1872 prison once held the infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy for 18 months, offering visitors a glimpse into its intriguing past through self-guided and guided tours.
Great place to visit if you love history! The staff were friendly and informative, and they had the prison, Warden's house, and the workshop open when I went (other buildings are open during the summer, I believe). There is plenty of parking right in front of the visitor's center along with a nice little gift shop! It's fascinating to see what prison life was like on the frontier!

Closed during my visit, it appears to be an interesting property all the same. I parked in the expansive lot and walked the perimeter of the property. $9 adult entry to the museum and prison. There is also a $10 rv dump station at the far side of the parking lot. The lots were clean, well maintained and fairly level. Overnight parking is NOT allowed and the property is locked at closing. I had 3 bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming.

What a gem of history in Laramie. This was the first federal prison in the territories, and a great little museum. We thought an hour maybe, and spent almost 4 hours. Between the different buildings, history, famous outlaws, farming machinery and wagons, it offered a little bit of everything. This prison even held a few woman! A must stop if you are in the area and enjoy history. It's self guided, so you get to explore at your own pace. Little gift shop and very clean facilities.
Shelley G — Google review
If you love Western history and museums then this is a "must see" for your visit to or trip through Laramie. There are lots of things to explore, read about, experience, and learn here. You can pay for a guided tour OR they'll give you a pamphlet with everything labeled and summarized so you can do a walking tour by yourself at your own pace (I've done it twice now). The entrance fee is $9 normally, but (unknowingly) the last time I went a week ago it was free.
Hunter D — Google review
Great little place to see! Very interesting and love that the tour is self guided with people placed at various places to answer questions. The only comment I have that could be construed as negative would just be to get the "staff" to be a bit more excited and interactive. I had to ask if one of them worked there due to them acting detached. If this changes it will literally be top notch.
Ryan B — Google review
Nine dollar entrance for adults, self guided tour of the prison. That’s great information and photos and exhibits. Love this place. It took me about an hour to visit almost everything, nobody else was there when I was. There is a second floor and you can use elevator if needed.

Really interesting, historic stop in Laramie. Once housed Butch Cassidy. One of the more interesting things to do in the area. Great way to spend time as a break from nearby camping.
Preston B — Google review
Interesting museum with lots to see! It's a great value for families as ticket prices are $9/adult and kids are free! The tour is self-guided. At the gift shop, you are given brochure with a map of the prison grounds and details about each building. The main prison is the highlight of the tour with multiple rooms to see: intake, bathing, infirmary, cell blocks, dining hall, etc... There is a special display on Butch Cassidy and a wide array of old-fashioned guns and artifacts. Along the wall, there are mugshots of prisoners with a brief story about each. My kiddos favorite part was going inside a prison cell and climbing into the stage coach outside. There is also the broom factory where many inmates worked. You can see all the equipment they used to make brooms and watch an educational video. All in all we spent about 90 minutes touring, but it could take longer if you stop to read the information posted near every display. The grounds were clean. The staff was friendly. There was ample parking.

Established in 1886, the University of Wyoming is located on the Laramie Plains and boasts a geological museum. It is the only four-year university in the state and offers more than just academic pursuits. The campus features attractions such as the University of Wyoming Art Museum, which showcases rotating exhibits and a permanent collection dating back to the 15th century.
Visited Coe Library to search for old photos from when I attended in the 80s. Staff was friendly and helpful. Even helped me navigate microfische!

Was some good professors, all you can eat cafeteria buffet though expensive, and generally few meaningless rules. Also, tuition was cheap. However when hired as a TA, was immediately made to sign forms every month saying I should be paid less than the standard pay everyone else got for no reason I knew of. Also, wouldn't pay my TA related tuition for several months one semester. Some observed serious instances of racism besides the "Black 14", sexism besides the male / female ratio, and as an extreme, a few(3 total) well known instances of married untenured professors dating, as in plays and giggling, female students in the two departments I was mainly part of. Two of those professors did end up getting tenured. Also, occasionally some "smart" teachers would give students upcoming test copies, give complete homework answers, give other stuff, and would socialize off campus with students such as sports or whatever. In one very well known instance an Organic Chemistry professor gave her TAs test copies for QA, who then gave copies to the students. This went on for 2 semesters straight even though any idiot could tell something was really wrong. Specifically, the public test curves had about a dozen 100% students every test, and an general average of 60%. About a year after graduating a new president named "Robert Sternberg" actually fired a few of these people, but he quit after about 6 months. Also at least a probably 10 known times, whenever a student had a good idea, or made a good product, some employee would call the idea or product junk, and then do his or her best to redo stated idea or product. Also as stated in other reviews, university maintenance workers frequently drive on busy sidewalks between periods. In the Computer Science department in the past as was told, some teaching applicants would supposedly fly to Laramie, look around at the scenery, and then immediately leave. And, dormitories were overpriced, loud, and badly sometimes broken. In my dorm one semester, the restroom was not cleaned once the whole semester because she didn't feel "energetic enough".

Really nice campus, but out of state tuition is crazy. Why would anyone pay an extra 15k to get same degree as home state.

VETERANS BEWARE!! THIS SCHOOL DOES NOT CARE IF YOUVE SERVED AND WILL NOT HELP YOU! I am a veteran and decided to use my GI Bill during the COVID lock down to pursue an education in engineering at UW. I spoke with multiple faculty members before classes started letting them know that this was my first stint at an actual university. I was excited but also ignorant and I made sure to let them know so I didn't let anything slip through the cracks. I'd lived in Wyoming for the past 3+ years as a govt contractor and had proof through taxes and lease agreements. They charged me as a non-resident and never informed me. I worked extremely hard and passed all of my classes! Over the years I've jumped through hopes with the VA and their billing department to no avail. Nobody will help me and now I'm almost $7000 in debt for schooling (and thats for only 1 semester!!!) I had already paid for with my time in service and my own money while in the service. This school could care less about it's veterans or the free money they get for us choosing their school. I'd give 0 stars if I could.

Construction zone masquerading as a university. Can't turn your head anywhere on campus without seeing three seperate construction projects. Try not get run over by the ten ton earth mover on your way to class. NO ONE GOES TO SCHOOL IN WYOMING FOR DOWNTOWN MANHATTAN LEVELS OF CONSTRUCTION AND NOISE.

My alma mater, and I have a lot of love for UW. I have competed my bachelor's and master's from UW, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Laramie is a great town to go to school in that it small enough to feel like a community, has great food and provides other opportunities that create a memorable experience. The campus here is beautiful as well, and during my masters I occasionally served as a guide during our seminar meetings (online masters) to people that had never been to Laramie, and they were always impressed with the campus. I could go on and on about UW and Laramie, but just know I love UW, it's faculty, facilities, opportunities, and the memories you make! Consider it if you are looking to enroll! Ask me questions if you would like to hear from an Alumni!
Nathan — Google review
I strongly discourage anyone from attending this school. The service that you get when enrolling leaves a great deal to be desired. This could be because they have a monopoly in WY. After expressly stating the classes I needed to take my Advisor planned a path with none of the classes I needed. Their reason was most people just want to graduate. The advisor and financial aid office was aware I was still finishing my Associates before the term started. Then the financial aid office refused to release my financial aid till I gave them proof of my Associates. I requested to have all of my classes dropped and be removed from school because it was turning into a circus and the registrars office said they did that. I found out weeks later that not only had they not withdrawn me from the classes but they instead decided to finally process the financial aid 3 months too late. If you want drama, a circus, confusion, terrible service, or financial issues this is the school for you. If you don't then go else where.

The Wyoming Women's History House in Laramie, Wyoming is a downtown museum that pays tribute to Louisa Swain and 12 other influential women from the state. Louisa Swain made history as the first woman to vote in a general election in 1870, thanks to laws granting equal voting rights to men and women. This free museum showcases the remarkable achievements of women in Wyoming, earning the state its nickname 'the Equality State' for being the first to grant women voting rights.
Wyoming is a historic leader of women’s rights when it comes to the right to vote and sit on juries. Stop in and learn more from the knowledgeable staff and informative displays. There are some neat artifacts and lots of beautiful quilts. It’s free to visit, too!

Very nice collection of memorabilia. Informative guide walked us through the house and gave historical information. Wyoming and specifically Laramie has a lot of important history when it comes to women, lots of "firsts". I enjoyed the visit.
Margaret P — Google review
We stopped by but because we had our dogs with us, we thought we would have to settle for just a photo with the statue of Louisa in the courtyard. My husband ended up ducking his head in while I stayed outside with the dogs and the tour guide gave him a super interesting mini-tour, then we swapped places and she gave me the same tour. We learned so much and are still talking about it the next day! Highly recommend stopping in here.

The Laramie Plains Museum is housed in the Historic Ivinson Mansion and showcases a wide range of artifacts that provide insight into the local history of the area. The museum provides an enjoyable and informative experience for visitors, with knowledgeable docents providing information on topics such as the Ivinson family, antiques, and the former girls school that occupied the building. The outdoor area is also beautiful and has been used for events such as marriage vow renewals.
we read about their $2 “Halloween” self guided tour and we are so glad we came to check it out! it was delightful getting to walk around this amazing house! we spent almost an hour and a half looking through each room. the sweet student, Bridget, answered our questions and gave us lots of great information. i believe they normally just do guided tours, but this was a special treat! if you’ve ever been to the Biltmore Estate in NC, this is significantly smaller, but of similar interest!

This was an amazing place to visit and learn. I homeschool my boys, and we are driving home from Alabama to Nevada . We are visiting historic areas, and this is a must-see. What an eye opener and just wholesome history. We had a great time. The staff was amazing, very informative, and answered all our questions. If you ever find yourself here, take an hr to tour this bit of history. 😁

We took a self-guided walking tour of Downtown Laramie and came across the Plains Museum in the Invinson Mansion. For a small fee we toured the three-storied historical home of one of the wealthiest families of Laramie in it's early years. Our guide led us through the home, telling the story of the home's family, servants and events. If you want to immerse yourself in the rich history of Laramie during the Territorial days to Wyoming's early Statehood, I would highly recommend this museum.

This was a completely unexpected place, incredibly well restored and the lady doing the tour was very knowledgeable. The standard of build and the original fittings were of the highest quality - really impressive to see such a commitment to the best on the part of the original owners, matched by an amazing attention to detail on the part of the volunteer restoration team. Really worth a visit.

This is a VERY late review. My wedding took place in 2018. We were not informed when we booked the venue that our rehearsal would take place at the same time of their grand reopening. We had several very nosey women in Victorian dress hovering during our actual rehearsal, including directly behind the arch. We were told to be respectful of the other event, but it appeared as though the historical society took precedent over our event and were not also told to be respectful. We were told that we were informed of the conflict, but I have notes from every vendor we spoke with. We were unable to decorate the evening before, which caused unnecessary drama. We also were under the impression that we had paid for use of the mansion itself for photographs, but the mansion was locked. The venue is beautiful, but make sure you aren't fighting for time or space.

We were very excited to visit the Laramie Plains Museum. We checked and confirmed on Google and their website that they were open at the time of our arrival. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the office was closed with a small sign stating they will be closed until March 4th. My low review is due to the lack of information on their website and on Google.

The American Heritage Center, located within the University of Wyoming's Centennial Complex, is a remarkable educational center and repository of historic documents, manuscripts, and archives. Housed in a structure designed by architect Antoine Predock to resemble a mountain, the center offers access to primary source materials for students and researchers. Visitors can explore artifacts, photographs, and documents showcasing the history of Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain West.
I visited recently and saw the Stan Lee exhibit and it was really nicely done. It’s a small exhibit and free. They had some cool give aways too. My favorite part was how he would write the story line for a movie on small cards. When I went the museum was closed so there weren’t a lot of people. The museum is separate from the exhibit.

I called today, and I spoke with an amazing woman on the phone. I was calling about some records from the 1800s I needed for a project. While they did have a long wait line and I wasn't able to get my hands on them, she still assisted me by telling me what she knew and other places I could look. I didn't get her name, but she was so nice, and I am so thankful for her help.

I called and emailed them to ask for information about an obscure fact about an old film. They found exactly what I needed and emailed it to me, way more quickly than anticipated. To be frank, they didn't even have to do it at all. I am in NYC and can't get to Wyoming at the moment, so I appreciated that they dug through files for me. Also they were super nice. I was just so happy when I get the email from them with the info I needed. THANKS SO MUCH to them. Hope to get to meet them in person one day.

This is a great place to take your kids to learn about Wyoming history. It has an extensive library of documents from many periods of Wyoming. The documents I looked over were about the internment camps during WWII. There is also an extensive collection of Stan Lee's work. Original Comic books and art. This is the place to come if you're a marvel fan.

Sweet Melissa is a thriving 100% vegetarian restaurant located in Laramie, WY. Despite being in cowboy country, it has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The menu offers a variety of meatless comfort food options, including hummus sandwiches and other casual fare. The restaurant also features organic beers and a wonderful tavern for those looking for vegan or vegetarian options.
I came to Sweet Melissa’s all throughout college and I recently came back this weekend and it was just as delicious as I remember it. However, somehow the cauliflower wings got even tastier!! The gin martini was made exactly like I liked it and the bartender was extremely attentive the entire time! Will always hands down say it is the best restaurant in all of Laramie. It is a must!

Very cute place and great food. The atmosphere was a little too loud for my liking and we had to wait 30 mins for the seat but thats not their fault that they’re so popular. Will definitely visit again! The artichoke dip was delicious ♥️

I love this place, it’s the one place in town where there is good vegetarian/vegan/gluten free/ pretty much any dietary restrictions options. Plus the staff are so kind and friendly! I went the other day and I didn’t know what I wanted right away and the wait staff was so polite and gave me time to think. It was a great experience!

What a delightful experience. Sweet Melissa's has vegan and gluten free options available which were excellent for my dairy and gluten food allergies. The food was great. The vegan nachos cheese was absurdly good. The service was great. It's a cozy spot with good vibes. Loved everything about the experience.

Absolutely loved it. My town, despite being bigger than Laramie, does not have a vegetarian Cafe. I'm not a vegetarian but I love vege food. This place does it great. We had buffalo cauliflower nuggets and crabless cakes. Both awesome. Good cocktails. Just great all around. We went in here at 2pm and it was still busy so I figured people must like it. I see why.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. Comfortable booth, friendly server and great food. So happy to know where to go for rich and satisfying vegetarian food In Wyoming. The cauliflower General Tsao is spicy as all get out. 😥 Hula burger is a win for the unusual combo of black beans, grilled pineapple, cheese and pickles. 🤩 Fried banana bread and homemade ice cream—yes, please! 😜 ❤️

Quite possibly the best food I have ever eaten. I'm not a big vegan organic guy either I adore meats and cheeses, but man, their raviolis are insane! The fake queso- AMAZING. Their GF desserts?? You can't even tell. Their cocktails are delicious too and, on top of all that, it's a safe space too!! <3 The owners managers and employees deserve so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Altitude Chophouse & Brewery, established in 1999 by Greg Smith and Karen Robillard, offers a cozy and relaxed dining experience with a Rocky Mountain ambiance. The restaurant is known for its handcrafted ales and inventive twists on American classics such as steaks, burgers, and pizza. The decor is mountain-themed with a beautiful bar, creating a welcoming atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
The Chophouse said they use the best beef, so I to try it. I got the Tuesday burger special popper burger medium and onion rings. The burger was really tasty, crispy and juicy. The house made ranch was great on the onion rings. The best part of the meal was the house microbrew stout beer. Really smooth with layered flavors and at an amazing price!

Came here while exploring laramie and to enjoy some food and flights of breweries. We ordered some appetisers to start off but it ended there. We ordered their "cheese curds" and wontons. Let me tell you it was not worth the money. They were not appetising to eat by look nor tatse. It was a shame. Our waitress however was very pleasant and checked on us regularly.

We were just passing through Laramie and stopped in for dinner. The restaurant has a good atmosphere but it took a couple minutes for a server to finally come seat us as there was no one at the hostess stand. Once we were seated our server was super inattentive. She was super nice and friendly but would disappear for long stints and never refilled our waters. The food was super flavorful but awkwardly portioned. It almost felt like the potatoes in one meal was an afterthought and they didn’t have enough. Over priced for what you get.

1st time here. I try to hit as many brew pubs as I can for my love of good beer and food. I ordered the blackened shrimp tacos and tried a few different beers. The food was disappointing to say the least. The shrimp were clearly not blackened and lacked flavor. The only thing I could taste was over powering vinegar, probably what was used to pickle something. The beer was average. Nothing blew me away. The service, however was top notch. Very friendly and attentive staff. I hope I caught them on a bad day. I will probably try it again.

I ate here 3 yrs ago & remembered it to be good. Today it wasn't. I ordered the Crispy Mac & Cheese with Brisket. The Mac & Cheese would've been good, but the "brisket" was terrible. It wasn't brisket at all. Small, hard grizzly sliced meat with BBQ sauce on it. Not one piece of meat was edible. Service was good & atmosphere was nice. Disappointed.

Great food! Great beers! Really friendly bar tender! The meatloaf was good. Came out cold because they were out of a side my husband ordered. They immediately fixed it. The steaks were delish. Mac n cheese needed seasoning but it was ok. The s'mores cake was to die for!!! Hatch chili beer was really tasty! Lots of options to choose from!

Born In A Barn is a rustic sports bar in Laramie known for its creative burgers, wings, and patio. The homestyle brewpub uses quality local ingredients to create flavorful dishes that have gained recognition, even being featured on Season 35, Episode 5 of a popular show. Visitors praise the unique flavors of the wings and the diverse drink selection. Despite its popularity, it maintains a cozy local hangout vibe and is conveniently located near downtown shopping opportunities.
After watching an old episode of #DDD, we looked it up and saw some mixed reviews but decided to go for it. Glad we did. Arrived on a Sunday around 11:15 and were seated immediately. Taylor our server was attentive and friendly. We decided to get a variety of items: barnachos, traditional wings with medium heat sauce, the plainsman and hatch green chili burgers (both with double patties, of course). Our barnachos were served promptly after ordering. They were so covered with the garnishes we had to dig for the crispy chips below! A half order was more than enough for two people to share. The wings were big and juicy. The burgers were both delicious, not “smash” burgers, but two 4 oz patties. Fries and tots were crispy. From being seated immediately by the hostess, Taylor’s prompt and friendly service, the kitchen’s quick ticket times, and the delicious menu items, we had a great experience! Thanks to the entire crew at Born in a Barn!

Wow! This place definitely made it into Diners, Drive-ins and Dives for a reason! My brother recommended this place while we were out exploring Laramie, so we stopped in for lunch. The prices are reasonable, the portions are perfect, and the burgers were flawless. If you find yourself in the area, stop here - the service is excellent as well. Try the Bishop Burger. It reminded me of an elevated In-N-Out animal style burger :)

We had wanted to try this place. Can't go wrong with Burgers and wings. The fries are amazing! Parking is limited and so is bathroom availability. But we will be back to try the wings. This go round we all got a different style burger. The Popper is 5 star.

Honest and brutal opinion. I was better off eating food from the nearest dumpster. Not only was the patty the thinnest I've come across, it was charred, flavorless and just downright un-American. . The smoked spicy garlic wings had unbearable smell and bitter taste.

As a Laramie local and student, I’ve been coming here for quite a while. And this was our 2nd night back in a row which we went. I used to love this place but my experience the last night makes me feel indifferent. Our waitress was very rude, as well as the bartender (who is the manager) when I confronted him about a half poured beer. He then accuses me that it’s half full because I drank out of it, and refused filling it up because ‘it came from a bottle’ - when I had the same full beer moments before. It wasn’t about the beer, but how my table was treated as this wasn’t the only issue. Unfortunately I don’t for see myself coming back soon, hope it can shape back to the restaurant it used to be. This is the first review I’ve had to write about a place, and it’s only a small portion of our bad service this evening.

Crowbar & Grill is a relaxed spot known for its creative burgers, pizzas, craft brews, and cocktails. The restaurant offers a positively sumptuous Puerto Rican dish called pernil, which is slow-roasted pork marinated in garlic, citrus, and herbs. In Wyoming, where ranching reigns supreme, the restaurant stands out for its exceptional burgers. Customers praise the delicious St. Patrick's Day green pizza and flavorful hamburgers with unique toppings like Italian sausage and Gouda cheese.
Excellent pizza, cocktails and beer selection. Whoever is making pizza here knows what they are doing. The toppings on their pizza is imaginative and well thought. Their bartender is shaking top shelf cocktails and knows what she is doing. Perfect. The staff is friendly and pays attention to what is going on. I’ve been to much more expensive places who don’t coordinate this well. Well done!

Hannah was our waitress today. We were seated and she gave us silverware, water and drink and food menu. She was the only one working the bar and restaurant area. It wasn't to busy but she was still handling her tables and bar. She came up to and apologized for the wait. Which was good customer service. Pizza has been the best pizza that we've had. Also the service is always on point. Thank you guys for the service and amazing pizza Everytime!!!!

Delicious food and great service. We had the Beef Bulgogi Fries they were full of flavor so addicting. We also ordered the Billhook Pizza (large) and shared it, we had leftovers. The pizza was also full of flavor and so darn delicious, the crust was just like we like it nice and toasty. The service by our waitress and bar guy was exceptional. They had a special going on of buy one beer and get one free. We will be coming back.

Decent beer list. Servers and staff are nice. Everything except the chicken tenders are awesome and seem to be homemade. Chicken tenders seem to have come frozen from a food supply store. The different fires they offer and salads are wonderful. Calzones also very good. My wife could keep raving about her burger.

My burger was good but nothing really stood out about it. But one of my companions had the burger with peanut butter and banana. She gave me a small bite to try, and surprisingly it was good. The peanut butter added a creamy texture to the sandwich that countered with the sweetness of the banana and was enjoyable. I also upgraded my fries to the Parmesan Truffle fries, it wasn't worth it I didn't taste anything different about it. One of my other companions upgraded their fries to the one with Pad Tia sauce, and it was good and flavorful. The base fries are shoestring fries which are my least liked style of fries.

Thai restaurant
Anong's Thai Cuisine is a restaurant chain founded by Anong, a Thai woman who moved to the United States in 1990. The success of her first restaurant in Rawlins led to the opening of branches in Laramie (2007) and Cheyenne (2013). Despite being located in Wyoming, this eatery offers authentic Thai cuisine with familiar dishes like crab rangoon, pad Thai, and Thai fried rice.
Called in an order to go on Saturday night. My food was ready when I arrived and the staff was welcoming and friendly. They were busy when I walked in, but the dining room looks nice and I'll try to sit down next time. The curry was great! Good flavor and they didn't skimp on the ingredients. The potatoes were cooked to the proper softness, and the spice level was just right.

Drop in anytime for a very serviceable buffet lunch. There are lots of tasty options, but arriving early might guarantee that the options are at their freshest. There’s a full menu, too. The chicken satay was tasty and well cooked. The summer rolls have very nice flavor but the huge piece of tofu is a little difficult to eat. The small dish of hot and sour soup that came with my lunch was absolutely delicious! The dining room is comfortable and the service is very friendly.

Great atmosphere, lovely time spent here for lunch. Staff were very pleasant and greeted us as we came in the door. Will come again another time. Place was clean and organized, couldn’t ask for a better experience.

Really solid Thai food, large portions, good prices. I’ve been here a couple of times whenever I’m in Laramie and I always look forward to eating here. I’ve had the green curry and the noodle curry in the past as well and they’re both delicious. The glass noodles this time were fantastic too, properly spicy as well. Worth mentioning that there’s a lunch buffet available too for about $15, but the section is small and the refills at the buffet seemed on the slow side. I’d recommend going earlier if you want the buffet.

A surprise for a small town to have such a fine restaurant, the hot and sour soup was unlike any I have had, delicious, entree was excellent, I travel and like to find out of the way private owned restaurants, highly recommended.

Really great Thai restaurant in downtown Laramie. Very friendly people, great food and unique atmosphere. We all got a small bowl of soup upon arrival which was a nice touch. The food was excellent especially the Panang Curry and the Pad Thai. Highly recommend!

5☆+on both dishes: basil chicken and sesame chicken. The flavor of the basil chicken was sweet, basily, tad spicy and the vegetables were so fresh. The crispy sesame chicken was perfect. Can't wait to come back. Very kind service too. My son and I loved it!

Even when very busy, service is great. The food always comes out hot and fast. I love their broth for beef and duck noodle soup. Every once in a while, they give me a free coffee and that makes my day :)
