San Francisco de Asís Catholic Mission Church, situated in Ranchos de Taos just south of Taos, is a remarkable example of Spanish Colonial architecture. Constructed in the late 18th century entirely from adobe, it features striking sculptural buttresses and two front-facing bell towers. The interplay of light and shadow on its dramatic shapes has made it a beloved subject for artists like Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams.
Beautiful church with a rich history. Inside is very well decorated with lots of wood carvings. No tickets required!!!

This is a simple but beautiful Catholic church. The grounds around the Church are also very nice. I enjoyed sitting on a bench in the shade in the courtyard, contemplating the front of the church. The gift shop is way pricey. ($3 for a single postcard!!! Whoa!!!) We viewed the mystery painting, which was a cool experience, although you do have to sit in the dark for 15 or 20 minutes waiting for the mystery to kick in. Experiencing the church and courtyard is free. The Church ask for a $3 donation for Viewing the mystery painting. The guide who brought us to see the mystery painting was very nice and patient.

Such a beautiful cathedral in Taos, and its pueblo structure made it unique and different that most cathedrals that I’ve been to. I visited it on a Sunday afternoon so it was rather quiet but doors were open for visitors.
Nysa T — Google review
I haven't gotten the chance to attend a service here yet. Maybe this Sunday? Who knows? If I do I will post pictures and update . But I have been there and got to view the beautiful historic church it is. I just wish the surrounding buildings/ neighborhood was so dirty and ran down. It seems it would be more historic and kept clean but it is the complete opposite. But the church is beautiful and as long as the word is God is witnessed and preached correctly then it don't matter where it sits or what surrounds it. Nothing can be more beautiful then his word. I think I will be attending this up coming Sunday Feb 9th 2025.

The architectural beauty is worth the visit, even for non Catholics. It is easily accessible, a ramp for wheelchairs. The grounds are well maintained and quite gorgeous. The church itself is old and kept open for visitors. Seating is available in various locations throughout. There is handicapped parking. Beautiful place to visit.
Sue R — Google review
Such an honor to visit this place of worship. For me seeing the dedication to unborn children near the walkway brought tears.

Beautiful older church. You can feel the history in this church.

A National Historic Landmark and a well-preserved adobe building in Taos. It’s architecture represents native and Spanish cultures. Inside the ceiling is impressive with wooden beams. Although I’m not a Catholic, I appreciate historic landmarks and interesting architecture!

Taos Plaza is a charming public square and community focal point known for its craft shops, cafes, and laid-back vibe. It holds historical significance as the earliest residents of the Taos-Tiwa tribe have inhabited the valley for over a millennium. The Spanish settlers also left their mark in the area, particularly in the village of Ranchos de Taos with its San Francisco de Asis Church.
Beautiful little town. Architectural wise, it’s the same like most other NM old town. The town is full of Indian jewelry. It’s like a tourist trap to lure them in to buy. Couple nice coffee shops and stands. It’s a good town to walk around if the weather is nice.
Tin N — Google review
This is a fabulous location to walk around and explore. The buildings set against the blue sky is gorgeous. The feeling of the place is exotic and historical at once, and also sad. I won’t go into detail on the history but it is heavy to walk around and know how we treated some cultures and that that treatment continues through today.
Dale B — Google review
Taos Plaza is the center of the Taos Historic District where locals gather for live music and farmers markets and visitors stroll through shops and galleries, historic buildings and restaurants. A majority of the most important historic sites in Taos are easily reached on a short walking. Nearby Kit Carson Road, Bent Street, and Ledoux Street lead to even more historic homes, neighborhoods, and shopping areas. As browse through the shops keep an eye out for Taos-made products. For example, Native American moccasins made in Taos are famous throughout the world. Here everyone can appreciate hand-made clothing and leatherwork. The jewelry created in Taos satisfies every taste and pocketbook. It is possible find beautiful tin and wood items, pottery, ceramics, and much more. Just about anywhere you walk in the heart of Taos you will find yourself immersed in the history of this place and of the Southwest.

I learned so much. Worth talking a tour and then going into homes with "open" signs. We bought a drum with great tone and a lovely necklace, we bought fry bread and hot chocolate.
Loa M — Google review
A lot of shops set in the beautiful Taos Plaza. Park and walk around to take in all it has to offer, don't hesitate to go explore the roads that you see off the main Plaza. A lot of artist, and you can find food.
Trish — Google review
Loved every minute we were here. Went to Santa fe 1st and Taos second. Taos is more laid back and didn't see any bums asking for money like in Santa Fe. This is a great place to see affordable artwork.
Richard T — Google review
Happened upon this funky little shopping center when I happened upon Taos on a random road trip. Fun times and the car show that was occurring upon my arrival made it even more of an impressive backdrop! Quite the collection of ancient vehicles as you can see from pictures. Go here if you want that good ol' stereotypical southwestern shopping vibe for sure.

Great place to relax on a Farmer's Market Saturday on vacation. That said, why do restaurants all around Taos close at 9 pm even on Fridays and Saturdays? (Seems to be a Land of Disenchantment thing; restaurants in Old Town Albuquerque — NONE on the Plaza there itself any more — do the same.)

The collection includes works from renowned artists such as members of the Taos Society of Artists, Native American artists, R.C.
Nice museum with good permanent collection including Agnes Martin and featured exhibitions - like Lucita currently on display 😻. Convenient location with free parking. Must see for art lovers.

Solid, local Taos museum. Small, but well run. They were welcoming and gave us a quick overview of the building when we got there. Some of the modern art was underwhelming, as it can be in my opinion. However, it was cool to see some influential artists in the Taos area. If you’re looking for a way to experience some art and culture you can spend about an hour here then go next door for some wine tasting.

Great ART Museum, progressive and great staff. Also a great building.

A must Taos experience. The museum has a great representation of local artists but the reason to go is the spectacular Agnes Martin room with a Donald Judd seating group. It brought tears to my eyes!

This was a planned stop during a n RV trip lasting two months. They have some wonderful shows here, well worth a visit. It's in Taos, which is a lovely place

This is a must see for any visit to Taos if you love art. The building itself is absolutely extraordinary—I’ve never walked such a creaky and musical floor. 😊 The collection is extraordinary. The Baumann on the first floor is lovely. Plenty of TAS members on display—here are some of my highlights. The staff is really friendly, too.

Fantastic collection esp the southwest landscapes. The Taos Moderna and some from the Taos seven. Lovely luminous works and a wonderful gift store. They are so nice there and have such lovely books and gifts. For a small place it’s well worth the stop. The building itself is wonderful.

The Taos Art Museum at Fechin House is located in the former residence of Russian artist Nicolai Fechin and now showcases works from the Taos Society of Artists. The adobe building, constructed in 1933, features captivating landscapes and portraits by artists who contributed to Taos' reputation as a creative hub. Visitors can also admire the intricate wooden carvings adorning the columns, doors, and furniture, which reflect Fechin's Russian heritage combined with New Mexican influences.
I can feel the artistic impact on my non-artistic mind. The building was classic pubeloan style with the modern lime stone exterior color. The inside was completely renovated by the artist Nicolai Fechin, with so many of his own woodwork. Now his painting of mostly his family members are on the walls, his home become public art museum, the inside appliances also become a great showcase of 1930s. I love the experience.

Beautiful stop, which I’m glad we made. Such an interesting story of this wonderful artist. Definitely take your time and look at every little detail. The house, the studio, AND the property / courtyard were gorgeous.
Joshua T — Google review
The story about how famed artist Nicolia Fechin spent years remodeling this property and turning it into an artwork in it's own right was interesting. The art from the local Taos Art Collective was very nice.
Pat C — Google review
Great museum! The artist is a famous Russian-American painter built all the furniture and cabinets in the house. A delightful visit back in time.
Ronald K — Google review
If you’re in Taos and only have time for one museum, let this be the one. This is one of the most magical museums I’ve ever been to. The home was constructed in the. 1930s and is an amazing blend of rustic southwestern style and Russian folk art. The artist, Fechin, who constructed the home for his family, was brilliant. His paintings, sculptures and woodwork are on display throughout the house and are breathtaking. The detail in the doors, windows and furnishings is nothing like you’ll ever see anywhere else. The house is easy to go through entirely in an hour or two and there’s a lovely curated gift shop featuring many local NM artists. I’ll need to visit this museum every time I travel to NM.
Sara P — Google review
Quiet little museum. We spend 1 hour there before their close time. I wish there were more time that day to enjoy the pretty yard. The displays are so well organized in the old house. Very remarkable experience!
Song L — Google review
Great experience seeing the show in the studio. The staff was amazing. Best gift shop focused on local talent that I have ever seen in a museum. The whole experience was uplifting and so Taos.
Todd H — Google review
Really enjoyed the visit. I addition to Fechin, his art and life story, the architecture was especially interesting, a blend of Taos Pueblo and craftsman designs. Love seeing the studio and the peaceful, landscaped grounds. Good gift ship has a selection of Taos artisans, jewelry and art books.

Mexican restaurant
Nestled just a block south of Taos Plaza, La Cueva Cafe is a charming Pueblo-style eatery that offers an authentic taste of Mexico. Owned by a couple from Mexico, this cozy restaurant prides itself on serving up fresh and natural dishes daily. The menu features traditional Mexican delights such as ceviche Mexicano, enchiladas de camaron enchipotladas, chicken mole enchiladas, and flavorful fajitas.
La Cueva is definitely Our favorite restaurant in Taos! The food is so delicious that we dined there for 2 consecutive nights. We ordered shrimp tacos, beef enchiladas, seafood enchiladas, combo, everything is so tasty. We love the seafood. They were cooked to perfection and creamy sauce enhanced the flavor. The staff recommended mango chimichanga and didn’t disappoint. Service is also good. Team is super friendly and attentive. Good food and service, and price is not expensive. Why should I complain if the place is a hole in the wall?
Zz R — Google review
The perfect hole in the wall for a meal. The ceviche is excellent and my beef chimichanga was the best thing I ate for our entire road trip. The prices are very reasonable and the service is exceptional.

The food was so great. It was all Mexicans who were cooking in the kitchen and a family owned place they've had for years. Everyone swrvinh were so friendly as well. It's a small restaurant but it's worth going there for their food for sure! We were visiting from Kansas and their food was still different from any Mexican food I've had in KS. A must try place!

Went on Monday morning for brunch .. tried veg burrito with green and red chili and chicken mole. Chicken mole was something we tried first time and it was awesome. Menu is not very big but everything is unique . Taste was amazing and filling . Our food was served quickly and was very fresh. People working are very nice.
Aparna F — Google review
Bit of a dive, had the Combo Plate, passable freshness and taste, not attractive. Waiter did not give us utensils or napkins, I had to get up and find them. Decor is dismal.
Itsallgooddm1 M — Google review
I read very positive reviews on this restaurant. The restaurant has two buildings and it's separated by an outdoor sitting area. The service is very friendly. The food is excellent. The chicken enchilada with mole was very tasteful and delicious, but the rice and beans were lacking in flavor. The atmosphere is bland, and the restaurant was cold even with heaters around us. Overall the restaurant was OK.
Jesus H — Google review
I had an exceptional dining experience at this restaurant. Starting with the traditional margarita with salt on the side, it was incredibly refreshing with just the right balance of flavors. I barely tasted the alcohol, which made it all the more enjoyable. For my main course, I opted for a beef taco served in lettuce instead of a tortilla. The beans and rice were served separately, making it a perfect choice for those following a keto or low-calorie diet. The beef was flavorful and well-cooked. The dessert was a highlight—a warm chocolate pie paired with ice cream. The combination was divine, surpassing even some luxury restaurants I've visited. The service was impeccable. The waiters were attentive without being overbearing, ensuring that we had everything we needed while allowing us to enjoy our meal naturally. While the restaurant's design is quite average, even below average, the food quality more than makes up for it. The amazing and delicious dishes make this place a must-visit.

First rate Mexican/New Mexican food. Food and service is always fabulous. We eat here every time we visit Taos. The outdoor area looks very nice but we've only visited in the winter so sat inside. The inside is extremely basic but the food quality and service is superb so it doesn't matter!

Orlando's is a vibrant Mexican eatery located in Taos, New Mexico, known for its open kitchen and colorful ambiance. The restaurant offers a variety of traditional Northern New Mexican and Mexican dishes, including enchiladas, fish tacos, and margaritas. Guests can enjoy their meals on the patio when the weather is pleasant. Orlando's is popular for its Sayulita fish tacos named after Sayulita, Mexico where the owners spend time annually.
This place is GO!!!!! So good. We got the fries with green chilies app, a taco salad with shrimp and everything bowl (red chili with beef). Also, a flan desert to go! Everything was amazing! So good! The service was also fantastic! Cool atmosphere, great people who work here and amazing food.
Lindsay L — Google review
1st time in NM, Orlando's came highly recommended. Went for dinner w my family and we ordered the Los Colores (3 different enchiladas w 3 different meats and chile sauces), the Smothered Shrimp Burritto, and the Grilled Burger w Beer Battered Fries. Genuinely enjoyed the food. The Chile sauces are flavorful but have a bit of heat that lets you know you are eating chile bit not so much that it over powers the flavor of the food. Really a solid dish as long as you can tolerate a little heat along woth your food. I enjoyed 3 different local brews from the Santa Fe Brewing company including a Nut Brown Ale, IPA and Pale Ale. The other meals consumed were enjoyed as well the burritto had a generous amount of shrimp and the burger was very good even of a burger isnt your go to for a New Mexican style dining experience. Biggest downside is that the venue is small so there was a wait to eat, but the fact that it was busy speaks to the good food. Well worth grabbing dinner or lunch at a pretty outstanding local eatery.

My wife and I ate supper here and had a great time! There was no wait, we walked in and were seated right away. The atmosphere was fun and up beat. There is a ton of things to look at and we enjoyed the art work. Really cool! Service was great and everyone seemed very friendly. The food was incredible! We both had the steak and relleno combo, wow! I highly recommend a visit it was our favorite place to eat in Taos.

We came for a late dinner and loved getting the authentic New Mexican experience and food! Great & fast service, fun environment, delicious margaritas and food! Skeptical on the frozen avocado lime pie but absolutely delicious!
Maggie C — Google review
Absolutely delicious New Mexican food. Was about a 45 minute wait for 2 people on a busy Friday night, but it was totally worth the wait. I had "los colores," three enchiladas with three different chile sauces. So good. Highly recommend!
Ari M — Google review
Stopped for a late lunch, on the road on Halloween (just passed through Taos). Small restaurant in the north side of Taos, short drive from the center of town. Brief wait outside, as place is small and popular. (Glad the weather was unseasonably warm, but they have a fire pit for colder weather). Staff was mostly dressed up for Halloween - some of the best make up and costumes I've seen in recent years (hostess was a great skeleton) Small place, but cute and eclectic. Corrugated metal, bright colors and various art objects. Small, single restroom right off the kitchen (clean, but there's a wait during peak periods) Friendly, efficient, patient service (my wife isn't that familiar with northern New Mexican food, and asked a lot of questions). Food was promptly served and excellent. I had the blue corn chicken enchiladas and my wife had the shrimp burrito. Both generous, fresh and nicely done. Nice representation of northern New Mexico cuisine (shrimp isn't typical, but most of the plates were more traditional). Overall, highly recommended. Not right off the Taos town square, but worth the drive.
L B — Google review
We ended up here 30 minutes before closing and they were so welcoming. The service was friendly, the food was delicious, and the dishes came out super fast! Shout out to Zach....Orlando's is lucky to have you.

This place was AMAZING!!! All of the food was so good and fresh. Friendly, kind staff and such a cute place! And omg, let's talk about the avocado pie! Like, what??? Wasn't sure about what we were getting into but it was one of the most delicious things I've ever tried! I would rate this place 10 stars if I could. So thankful a close friend recommended this place! 💕

Restaurant
Aji is a contemporary Peruvian/Latin restaurant located in Taos, NM. The restaurant offers a variety of options including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes along with homemade desserts. Customers have praised the attentive service and delicious cocktails such as Pisco Sour and Maracuya Sour. The menu features appetizing dishes like beef heart Antichucos and mouthwatering Paella.
For a change of pace, we decided to go Peruvian for dinner tonight in Taos, NM. So glad we did… Aji rocked the house! Great meal from start to finish! Navitidad was our waitress, she was awesome! Attentive but not intrusive! Navitidad, thanks for your wonderful service! We started the evening with a couple of Peruvian cocktails… a Pisco Sour and a Maracuya Sour. Both were delicious, hat tip to the Maracuya Sour for its passion fruit flair! For the appetizer, we opted for the beef heart, “Antichucos.” My oh my, delish! The beef heart, marinated, served on skewers with thinly sliced potatoes, hominy, and a killer chimichurri sauce on top! So good, we could have ordered five more servings and been happy… but, we didn’t! And for good reason… For our entrees we selected the Pato (duck leg) and the Seafood Pasta. Both were outstanding! The duck leg was served atop fabulous creamed sweet potatoes and yucca strips… the dish was incredible! Likewise, the seafood pasta was over the top great. Served with “Aji Sauce” very flavorful and with a surprise kick of heat (hot pepper) on the end. Plenty of baby scallops and shrimp, with mushrooms and peas, OMG good! The pasta was freshly made and served a perfect al dente…. We enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Albariño El Terrano from Spain, which was perfect for the duck and pasta! We were stuffed, so we passed on dessert this time around. The restaurant space is comfortable and cool! It was packed by 7:30pm when we left! Art for sale on the walls, pottery, sculptures, etc. Even the bathroom space was beautifully tiled! Bossa nova pop hits from the overhead speakers was awesome! (It’s what we listen to at home!). What a meal… highly recommend Aji for a “change of pace” meal in Taos, NM.
Jim N — Google review
Had dinner at Aji while visiting Taos and had a great meal. We made reservations for 6pm and were one of two tables when we arrived, so had most of the place to ourselves. Our server was no nonsense and seemed to be rushing around. Our meals came out exceptionally hot and everything was very good! The appetizer empanadas with huancaina sauce were some of the best I've ever had... we could have ordered three plates of them. The paella I ordered was delicious as well. Great flavors, hot, good variety of seafood. The skirt steak with pesto linguine was also good, but I'd say the paella and empanadas were the stars. I'd definitely recommend a stop here when in Taos for dinner.
Katrina K — Google review
I got the steak with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. One of the best meals out I’ve had. All elements of the meal were cooked to perfection and absolutely divine! The potatoes were creamy and cheesy. The mac reminded me of how my mom always made it growing up. The steak was well flavored and cooked to my preference. Very tender and delicious! The price here is higher than a lot of other places in the area but the quality is worth it. I would 100% go again any and every time I’m in Taos. Fantastic date spot for couples visiting town.
Kelly C — Google review
The Yucca fries and ensalada were good. The Lomo Saltado is described as beef tenderloin with steak fries and it was not. The beef was at most sirloin maybe even a cheaper cut and the fries were crinkle cut. The salmon was a tiny 4oz portion with no visible spinach anywhere on the plate. Very disappointed!
Jessica P — Google review
Great food ceviche was delicious and pictured about. The paella and duck were also fantastic though I was too busy to eat to take pictures. Dinning room was very intimate like you were a guest in a home.

Went here back in May for my birthday, the ambience , the intimate setting, and the incredibly tasty food brought me and lady back for our anniversary tonight. The service and the food was once again amazing and we will definitely be back . I highly recommend this place, it’s a hidden gem of awesomeness!

Located near the San Francisco de Asis Catholic Mission and Chimayo Trading Del Norte, it's a great stop for both food and sightseeing. The restaurant has gained high praise on TripAdvisor for its New Mexican cuisine.
Absolutely amazing! Really old area of Taos. The atmosphere is relaxing and intriguing and sits right next to the old church. The food was intoxicating. I had the stuffed sopapilla with beef and green chili, and I am so hooked. The beef tacos were delicious. When in Taos, eat here!

We really enjoyed our lunch. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The sopapillas were the best ever. The burger looks small next to the heaping salad (which was a great salad) but it was thick and cooked to perfection. Very filling. I couldn't eat it all. Kids had a Xmas burrito and cheese quesadilla. We can't wait to return. We already know what we want to try next.

Very delicious, authentic New Mexican food. We never miss going here on our travels.

The Chile adovada was very flavorful and I enjoyed the raspberry iced tea on a hot summer day. Aesthetic outdoor scenery by the St Francis of Asis church. Delicious sopapillas and New Mexico chile mixed with ground pork. My husband had the blue corn enchiladas and they were also super flavorful with the green hatch Chile on top. We ordered without cheese as we cannot have dairy but everything was still delicious despite not having cheese. Service was phenomenal and very caring staff.
Jaja C — Google review
Lawn chairs for seating in the waiting area detract from ambience. They have, maybe 4 front staff, doing all the jobs with no assignments. Took 3 staff stopping at different times to bus a table. Seating areas and bathroom need a DEEP clean. Food quality has declined with subsequent visits.

Delicious New Mexican food on a lovely, shaded patio with blooming flowers and a view of the historic Taos church. Tasted home made. Good service

Simply the best! We have to wait for 25 minutes dropping in without reservation. The carne adovada was excellent, thinly blackened, the red chilli sause was beautiful. we liked our desert very much. There was a whole wall painted, so good for photo-taking dining in front.

We sat in the courtyard on a beautiful New Mexico late summer evening. The staff were very nice and the food was good. This had been explained to us as a Spanish food place and for us in Arizona it was definitely more mexican. They do not serve alcohol so if that is what you are looking for this is not the place. If you sit outside don't miss going into the house and check out the murals on the walls.

The restaurant is renowned for its authentic northern New Mexican brunch featuring dishes like huevos rancheros and Taos-style eggs benedict. With a welcoming ambiance and friendly hospitality, it's a dream destination for breakfast and brunch lovers. While it offers plenty of vegetarian options, making them vegan is not difficult.
This cafe is so cozy and delightful! The staff was genuinely kind and accommodating. The food was fresh and clean and made with care. Stopped by the Ben Street Grille in Taos for lunch, but decided to have breakfast instead. The waffles were light and fluffy, the eggs were cooked well, and the bacon was crispy. Sweet fresh berries too. The service was on the slow side, but the staff is friendly and thoughtful.

Had an amazing brunch here. Everything we ordered was amazing waffles, soup, burrito, hot chocolate. The service was quick. I experienced amazing Taosian hospitality at this restaurant. I had forgotten my bag here and was already on a flight back home. Their manager took the pains of sending my bag through courier the very next day. He was so helpful when he didn't really have to.

Service was great! Atmosphere was great also. My wife had Avocado in the morning. She loved it! I had a hamburger made from “grass fed” beef. Very disappointed. It tasted like sage brush! And was very dry. It didn’t taste good at all. Everything comes on the side for you to put what you want on the burger. The buns were hard as well.

Had the chicken and waffles. My daughter had the Berry Turkey sandwich. Great dishes and the fries are awesome! Crispy chicken, fluffy waffle, green chile, guacamole, and a whole lot of flavor! Only saw one waiter as we sat on the patio, which is also wonderful. However, the waiter seemed to focus on other tables and forget about us. The place wasn't busy, so I can't say we were beyond service. The rest of the staff was awesome, from reception to departure, they were quite helpful. A little pricey but a great place to sit and enjoy the sunshine and people. Careful though, tipping is a bit out of control on the presets... just sayin'.

Today was my first visit to the Bent Street Grille. I have been to the Bent Street Deli many times over the years and found the changes in menu and layout to be good overall. Over medium eggs, potatoes, dry rye toast, green chili sauce and coffee for me plus one of Deb’s pancakes. She had pancakes with blackberries and strawberries and a side of two O/M eggs and decaf coffee. Everything was quite tasty. The green chili sauce was a little thin for my taste but tasted very good and produced a slight nose run, an important aspect of spicy food. The staff were all pleasant and attentive.
