Fortress
Perched atop a 68m-tall volcanic hill, Palanok Castle is a dramatic fortress that offers scenic views of the surrounding plain. Dating back to the 14th century, it served as an important strategic stronghold for the Kingdom of Hungary and has witnessed significant historical events. This prominent monument of urban architecture is famous for its association with Croatian-Hungarian princess Ilona Zrini and Hungarian national poet Sandor Petofi.
Very nice big castle, which is consist from 3 castle. Castles are from different century. Fee is 100 UAH per adults. Parking is possible on the street under the castle.

It was nice overall, you can learn about history, legends and have a view over the town of Mukachevo. The only issue is that more than half of the museums were closed as usual. You have the opportunity to get a tour guide and some souvenirs. Also, it's a good idea to visit the castle 🏰 for the night view of the town, the castle closes at 5pm.

Best castle in Ukraine. No caps! You won’t find any better castle in entire Ukraine. Pleasant guide tour, revitalized buildings and brilliant view onto Mukachevo city. Fond of Palanok castle.

History always had a dark side to itself and this castle is not less than any other. The castle was build for sake of love but the Queen left the castle and ended up in church too clean up after the ceremonies and Sunday gatherings. Not like castles you will find in England and Europe.
Alexander A — Google review
Simply amazing castle! I enjoyed immensely exploring every bit of it I could. The views are enchanting, one can just imagine how life a few centuries ago looked like. I’m admiring the staff’s attitude too - you only have to pay for the entrance (and for a guide, if you like), there are no extra charges of any kind once you are in. Btw, there is drinkable water pumped from the well - just the thing in the hot summer!
Iryna T — Google review
Wow. A must visit! Gorgeous castle dating back almost a thousand years (with changes over time) and stunning views of the surrounding country and Eastern Carpathians. If you do one thing in Mukacheve, do this.

(Translated by Google) The Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Martin is one of the symbols of Mukachevo. The neo-Gothic cathedral was built in the 20th century. Next to it is the unique chapel of St. Michael. Its history goes back to the 14th century. These are the remains of another ancient temple. The chapel is perhaps the only authentic example of medieval Gothic on the territory of Ukraine, which still serves its intended purpose.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful place! Legends of the Nicholas Monastery tell the legend about the founder and trustee of the Mukachevo Monastery, Fyodor Koryatovich. As if, when he was inspecting his possessions, a large Serpent came across him on the way. The forces were unequal, and the prince could not overcome him. Then he turned to Saint Nicholas with prayer, and he helped him defeat the beast. In honor of this victory, Koryatovich built a monastery. And the place for him, according to another legend, was shown to him by an angel who appeared above the Latoritsa River. In the monastery you can see many shrines: the icon of the Mother of God “Quick to Hear”; a copy of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, brought from Athos; cross with a particle of the Life-Giving Cross; an icon with a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

Beautiful palace in the center of Mukachevo.
Andrew O — Google review
The castle is very big and spacious. There are a lot of exhibitions, photos and artifacts. There is no authentic interior, because everything was ruined. But it’s restored and renewed. It’s on the hill so from the top of castle there is a great view on the mountains and city Mukachevo. There is a free parking near the castle. Entrance fee is 2$ for one person. If you want to know all the stories, legends and specialities of this place you can take a guide for additional 6$ for the whole group. This place will be interesting for history connoisseurs and those who are interested in Middle Ages.

The restaurant Порядний Ґазда is highly regarded for its pleasant and helpful staff. It may not be easily found on Foursquare, but Google Maps can lead you to this recommended establishment located at the castle. This cozy venue possesses a unique ambiance that transports visitors to a different era. The waitstaff are genuinely amiable, accommodating, and attentive. The cuisine offered is delectable, with refreshing beverages ideal for sweltering summer days.
Really tasty food and the quality looked great! Our favourites were the banosh and the pig ears - both perfectly flavoured! The atmosphere was nice, with calm music, and the absolutely wonderful decoration of pickled vegetables! We especially liked the taste of the cucumbers - crunchy, not too sour or sweet - just perfect! The only thing that could have some improvement is the Hungarian fish soup, which wasn’t bad, but in comparison with how flavourful the rest of the dishes were, it was lacking. We will definitely come back if we are in the area! Thank you!
Kristina K — Google review
Despite all of the good reviews, I found this place to be very overrated. The portions were small, it took a while for the food to come out, and everything was very bland. I think for a quarter of the money. You could make all of these simple dishes at home. That would taste much better. I think there are better restaurants in the mukachavo area. The service was good but overall. I wouldn't personally recommend, especially if you're looking forward traditional food.

food and beer ok, a bit more expensive than average Ukraine, it has a big hall for celebrations. We wanted to rent this party-room for a birthday celebration and fixed everything 2 months before by telephone. When we wanted to make some minor changes 1 month before, noone knew anything about our reservation and it was already reserved for a "friend of the house", after some calls, my number was even blocked by the restaurant -this is just an insult!

Bograch, located in the city center of Mukachevo, is highly regarded as the top dining establishment in the area. Despite its central location, it offers a serene and peaceful ambiance with an attractive outdoor terrace that plays lovely music. The restaurant specializes in serving exceptionally delicious traditional Carpathian cuisine paired with quality beer. A lunch for two can be enjoyed at a reasonable price of 300 uah, making it an excellent value.
This was truly an excellent meal! All of the food was local transcarpathian. Our guide told us that the mushrooms for my cream of mushroom soup came from just down the road in the mountains The lamb was beautiful braised and locally raised. An authentic restaurant that visitors should make sure that they absolutely do not miss the opportunity. The host was friendly and help to deal with our horrible language skills.

Good local beer, fast service. Prices good but the steak was in all instances done wrong. Medium rare ordered - delivered total well done chunk of "dry wood"- one serving was totally burnt. Other meals were ok but you have to work on your chefs skills or remove things he do not know how to prepare.

The Kozachok hotel is a great place to stop with a fantastic kitchen. While some dishes like dumplings with cherries may take longer to be served, the waiters are kind and the Ukrainian and Hungarian food is tasty. The price may be slightly higher for the region, but there are benefits such as a kids playground with a jumper and a kids room on the second floor.
