Festetics Palace, located in Keszthely, Hungary, is a stunning Baroque-style palace that dates back to the 18th century. It was originally built by the Festetics family and has since become one of the largest country houses in Hungary. The palace features aristocratic rooms from the 18th and 19th centuries, a library with an impressive collection of 90,000 volumes, and a display of historic coaches.
Interesting to visit in the area, but nothing spectacular. There are texts in English for exhibits.

Palace and garden are fantastic, but we just be able to see them from outside. We traveled 200 km from Slovenia just to find out on site that the Palace is closed today. Kids were realy sad.
Ivan P — Google review
It’s nice and everything but I think you don’t see enough…. I would like to see for example the kitchen where all the magic happened back in the day, where the stuff was living and also many other rooms of the palace . Otherwise it’s expensive I think. It’s worth it once but I wouldn’t go back again, unless they open more rooms for the public.
Sixty S — Google review
Super nice place you must visit when travelling around Balaton. Im overwhelmed when coming with a lot of stunning rooms in the palace. Especially the library is super gorgeous. The staff are also friendly and able to help. They provide you a locker. It makes your experience better and more comfortable. I have a very good experience here.
Hao P — Google review
The castle is in excellent condition. It's worth seeing. The only bad thing is that you cannot tour the castle on your own, and the guided tour is only in Hungarian. We didn't like that. We had to follow the pace of the group and the guide in a language we don't know. The library is impressive. The park around the palace is beautiful. Most museums close at 4 p.m., so we didn't have time to visit them all. Another big minus in Hungary is that almost no one speaks English. We did not manage to find out where to buy souvenirs.
Danijela B — Google review
The most outstanding landmark in this part of Hungary. Built by Kristof in 1745 in Keszthely with 100 rooms in U shaped building full of opulance which can be seen as soon as reaching the entrance, acres of manicured gardens. Such a beautiful place to see
Rob N — Google review
I recently visited Festetics Castle, and it was absolutely stunning. With my entry ticket, I explored five special exhibitions, each offering unique insights into history and culture. The Hunting Exhibition featured an impressive collection of hunting weapons and trophies, while the Carriage Exhibition showcased beautifully crafted carriages from different eras. Additionally I visited the Helikon Library – Home to over 90,000 historical volumes. The Palm House and Bird Park – A lush greenhouse and charming bird park. The Historical Model Railway Exhibition . Each exhibition was meticulously curated and engaging. Exploring all of them took over five hours, but every moment was worth it. Festetics Castle is truly a gem, and I highly recommend visiting.

One of the main attractions in Keszthely, near Lake Balaton, is the beautifully preserved Festetics Palace. With its grand architecture, rich history, and magnificent library, the palace is a highly recommended stop for those interested in Hungary's cultural heritage.

The Balaton Museum is a fascinating destination that delves into the rich history and geology of Lake Balaton. Known as the Hungarian sea, this expansive lake has been a popular summer retreat for centuries. The museum, established in 1928, offers captivating displays on native plants, the region's past, and the evolution of bathing culture with an array of historical bathing suits. Visitors can explore the Balaton aquarium to learn about the diverse fish species inhabiting the lake.
Great variety of temporary and permanent exhibitions about the history, wildlife of the area of the lake Balaton. Perfect place for those rainy days.
Roland K — Google review
Considering the awesomeness and richness of the history and beauty of the Lake Balaton, this museum was a clear under-performance. Staff didn’t seem to be enjoying their jobs and were clearly demotivated. A big percentage of the exhibition had no English information. You aren’t given any info paper in English and no audio guide was available. The parts offering English texts had so many dropped/removed characters that were making it hard to read. There was no info guiding you through the exhibition so you can follow it correctly. There are tourists who like to learn more about the Lake Balaton, why not to give them a better chance? Quality was not there, left the museum disappointed.
ND — Google review
The museum is really great and complete to learn about the history of the Balaton lake there are no doubts about that at all. It's also quite interactive and not just some boring texts there are interactive map wax figurine music relics etc so it's really good (it's a good place to bring your children plus they have some beany bags on the floor if your children gets too bored while you read the very interesting history about Balaton lake) the building itself is also very pretty. So why do I put four stars ? Because the temporary exhibitions that we visited were written in Hungarians only and passionate about Hungary history I could not understand what the temporary exhibitions were about hat is my only down point otherwise awesome museum keep it up !
Guillaume C — Google review
Very interesting museum that tells about the creation of lake Balaton, it's animal and fish life. Also the history of human activity around the lake, from prehistoric times to today. A bit quaint, but the custodians are very friendly, so all in all a very good experience.
Michael F — Google review
Old fashioned outside. Modern inspiring exhibition inside.
Bernhard H — Google review
Nice Museum with historical stuff. Nice things inside. Really interesting history of Balaton!!
Marik — Google review
Very nice staff. Decent exhibition of the history of the area and Balaton. There would be much more place for other exhibitions, e. g. works of artists who have spent their life creating around the lake Balaton.
J B — Google review
I just improved a lot over time with a rather fine exhibition on the top (1st) floor. Which highlights the lake Balaton and everything attached to it from flora, fauna, animals, tourism, shipping and so on...Very informative and fun at the same time. Not overly complex but still highly recommended to visit for those who want to know more about the lake and its wider area.

Lake Hévíz is a large thermal lake located just two hours away from Budapest, making it an ideal destination for a romantic getaway. The lake offers alleged health benefits due to its warm waters and is surrounded by an indoor/outdoor spa with various services. In addition to the lake, the town of Hévíz boasts impressive museums, vibrant markets, a historical old town, and a variety of dining options.
Cool thermal lake, yesterday was fabulous, outside temp 16, water temp 26, perfect. Sparkling vine in a bar is a must. Around 2 hr drive from Zagreb. Excellent place to spend a weekend. Fair prices.
Igor D — Google review
Nice thermal lake for spring and autumn season. Small part inside the facility is surrounded by walls that keep water warm enough, however outside can be cold. Highly recommended experience for a unique place.
Lu O — Google review
This is a lovely thermal lake which also is huge. Everyone gets an armband that also gives you a personal locker for your belongings. Note that you can not pick any locker you have to blip the armband at the screen when entering the locker room and then you are assigned a locker. I recommend going around the lake to the "relax" section where there are a lot fewer people and a much more calm setting. The lake is quite warm so do not expect to get cooled down on a warm summer day.
Anton G — Google review
The lake is good but the inner swimming pool with hot water doesn’t work at the moment. It was written on the site that the central building doesn’t work but not a single word about the pool. I really was hoping to visit it as sometimes the water is chilly outside especially when it’s windy. At least could make lower price during these repair works
Mayya K — Google review
It’s great to see these natural therme wit constant warm water. It’s bigger then we expected.
Maja M — Google review
Beautiful natural warmwaterlake to spend quality time and relax in the thermal lake or laying at a free deck chair. Dayticket costs 6000K (20€), there are also tickets for 3h (3500K) and 4h (4300K). You can eat inside the park or leave to eat outside and return.
Christel G — Google review
Honestly I thought this was going to be gross and super packed with people. But it was very relaxing and therapeutic. The Lake is gigantic and there enough space to spread out in the water. There are different depths and parts to the spa as well. There is a super deep part and then there are sulfur baths. Spent most of my time in the outside lake part and on the sun chairs. You pay and get a wrist band that tracks you. Different pricing for how long you want to stay.
Abigail A — Google review
A well organized spa with medical and healing waters. There is place to buy food and also rent ‘floaters’ which I recommend since the lake can be rather deep. I did not take any therapies but various one are available. The staff is very helpful! I realized I had left my mobile phone behind as soon as I left the place, and they had already found it! Amazing! Highly recommendable to anyone wishing to try natural healing waters.

Nestled in the heart of Keszthely, the Vidor Toy Museum is a treasure trove for both young and old alike. Spanning nearly 300 square meters, this charming museum boasts one of Europe's largest toy collections, featuring around 10,000 pieces that chronicle the evolution of playthings from the early 1900s to today. Visitors can marvel at an impressive array of toys including soft plushies, classic toy cars, and an extensive Barbie collection.
Nice place to take kids ... Some old nice toys, as well history of kinder eggs ... Place is not huge, but for the price paid is great ... Toys from different eras, mainly from 20th century 😃

This trip back in time to the distant world of our childhood was a great experience and fun. The Hungarian-made metal cars, chirping chicks and clowns on scooters, the post-Soviet moon car, the inevitable rattling stairs and building blocks, which are so popular in the KGST countries, are all beautiful memories from the time when he still played with people. The prams, sledges, tricycles, pedal cars suspended from the ceiling, thousands of LEGO figures, Matchbox, Merklin and MÁV trains on the shelves built between the window panes, the lead soldiers of the past, the dollhouses, washing and sewing machines and papirmasé dolls of the girls' toy museum delight the human imagination. , flying back to the human-centered world of our childhood, when it was very good to be a child, despite the frequent slaps from our fathers. Located on the route from the house to the city center, Jóbarát Vendéglő is a renowned Hungarian eatery. In approximately 10 minutes of walking, one can easily spot this establishment. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal. However, the food didn’t quite meet expectations, and the wine selection was a bit disappointing. With a few improvements, this place could truly shine!

Traditional hungarian restaurant by the road, with great food and friendly staff. A bit hard to find an empty table outside in the evening, you'll have to settle with an indoor table where it could get a bit hot.

We ended up at this place after a 30 Km cycle. And was it worth it!! The best meal we had in the region over a 3 night stay! Portions are big and the flavour was delicious. Good wine and beer! Definitely worth a visit!! Staff were very friendly -even when they did not have good English they were great!!!
Kate S — Google review
I get why the prices are higher then in any other places. This is a tourist region. I get that. I like the atmosphere. I am totally satisfied with the service and staff personnel. Unfortunately I can’t say the same about the food quality. Neither carp soup, nor venison stew or pork knuckle are close to being delicious and match same dishes I had in any other csarda and vendeglo across the country. Certainly not worth the money I paid. Again, I totally get the concept though.
Ivan J — Google review
Reasonable service, decent atmosphere, really quite bad food. We chose this place because it was our last night here and we wanted to eat traditional Hungarian. The menu was interesting, but the food was really quite poor: fish grilled with a faint taste of paraffin, over-salted with lumps of salt in the sauce. My child’s dish was so salty they couldn’t eat it. My other son was given oven chips with his. Even the beer was a bit warm. Honestly I sound like I’m being overly fussy but it was it’s such a shame. Maybe it’s because it’s the end of August, maybe it’s because we arrived late and they were tired. But it wasn’t a great meal.

Nice place, nice Food, just as we expected! The burger was good ( but the veggies was cold ) otherwise the bun was tasty and the meat as well! The fish was fresh !

This is the worst burger i ate in my life. Bread was buci from Lidl, not fresh at all and meat was tasteless & not cook well. Price is 6k huf for this garbage taste.

First of all, we’d like to point out our friendly waiter who gave us better wine recommendations than in many other places we visited. Thank you for that! Friendly, Hungarian style pub with outdoor seating. Quite broad menu but what we ordered was delicious and well presented. We can recommend the chicken broth, which arrived super quick, and the grilled fish and the grilled chicken breast. If there were less insects and more comfortable chairs, the experience would have been even better.

The best restaurants in Keszthely . Great service from the gentleman in the video and pet friendly . The restaurant serves high quality of international cuisines of course includes Hungarian foods which are nice . The 10% service fee is totally worth that ! To the restaurant manager: the gentleman in the video shows his passion of his job! Thumb up !

I had their cheeseburger, which on paper looked really appealing, so I went for it. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed: The bun is a sweet brioche that, together with the cucumber and tomato, overpowered the taste of the meat. For me the saving grace was definitely the fries. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing and the service was good. Would I recommend? Based on the food I had: no.

Lunch at this restaurant was okay. The service was friendly, although we waited a long time for our order (about 50 minutes). We sat on the terrace, which is beautifully decorated. The food was beautifully presented on the plate, and the taste itself could be improved a little. All in all, okay.

The waiter's reaction was simply astonishing. She merely gave us a wet rag taken straight from the bucket. We cleaned everything ourselves. The waiter did not help with cleaning the table, did not offer a new table or a new drink. The service leaves much to be desired! Overall, the waiter was rude, he clearly favored another table and disregarded us. The atmosphere is a 3, because the atmosphere is created by PEOPLE, INCLUDING THE SERVICE. We are very sorry, because the ride was really ok. But this kind of treatment made us feel like second-class customers. I don't recommend it. (Original) Jedzenie bardzo smaczne, porcje obfite. Nestled in the charming Keszthely Zamor area, just a stone's throw from Libas Beach, Tompos Restaurant is a delightful family-run establishment steeped in history. This inviting eatery offers not only traditional Hungarian cuisine but also caters to health-conscious diners with vegetarian and paleo options. We ate here today in the after summer season. And we were early for dinner (17:15). We were able to pick a table next to the kids corner. Our kids were able to play when we waited for the food and after eating. Perfect for us. And a very friendly waiter. Food was amazing and exactly what we came here for. We wanted traditional Hungarian food. Heavy on the meat and potato dumplings. And this was spot on! It's a big place so I guess in the summer it can get busy and quality and experience might be different, but for us this time it was perfect. And the prices? For a western European this was cheap. We paid about 65 euro in HUF and that included a tip and drinks and bottled water. For this size of main course we did not need an appetizer.

Outside Keszthely city center, we always go with car, but cycle is also total OK, as there are good ways to cycle there. We come here every year when in Keszthely for the quality of food and service, mainly for (bigger) lunch. The people behind this place ran another place before, which went down the drain when they left 2012 to build up this place. It is a typical Middle-Of-The-Road place. You normally get decent food and service for not the most expensive price. Not cheap, but you pay for a bit better quality. Not a place to run through, it should be enjoyed without haste. Picture a steak with green-pepper sauce.

A traditional (maybe even old-school) restaurant. They have plenty of inside and outside seating. They offer a daily menu for meat eaters and vegetarians, but not for vegans. The portions are huge. The taste and quality of food is average. My dish had barely any taste, and hubby’s was quite dry.

The food was nothing but delicious and drinks were top class. Totally recommend to anybody visiting Keszthely. Although I suggest to make a reservation, they tend to be, mostly at evenings, quite packed.

Food was fresh, but unfortunately tasted more like European mum making rather than real mexican 🌮🌯 simply replacing tortillas, and adding correct spices like even more coriander would have made significant difference. That being said, food was still OK, and tasty so for someone who doesn't eat as often real mexican food like we do, it would still be good. Waitress was super nice, atmosphere is great so 4.5 would be the best star review. Thank you for being kind 🙏

We were expecting Mexican cuisine, but unfortunately Mexican is everything except the food. The food has absolutely no added value. The burrito I had is laid out on a plate. where's the salsa Where's the cilantro? Big diced tomatoes thrown on top, what is that supposed to be? Any corn? Nothing really impressed me about the food at all, heavy average. I don't understand the rating of the restaurant.

Lovely food with lovely atmosphere. The owner of the place greeted us at the door and show us downstairs. You can clearly see the she knows the tea! The staff working professionally and always smiling with clean and elegant dresses. We really enjoyed the food and the homemade coffee infused tequila as well. Although they need to improve on their Margarita cocktails for sure. All together great lunch with the family amazing quality of food and 5 star service.

It’s comfort and American style Mexican food. Big portions and you’ll be satisfied, but nothing too unique and flavors don’t pop out.

Exceptional service, all the staff members speak fluent English German and Hungarian. They are kind friendly and helpful if you do not know what to chose from the menu (and believe me it is a huge menu). About the food: This place feels like you are Mexico but in Keszthely. The food is exceptional when they say it’s hot they mean it. All the ingredients feels like premium quality one and the meat...ah the meat. They really know how to fry beef sirloin! I could not wait to come back!
