The Falkirk Wheel is a remarkable and innovative boat lift that connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal in Scotland. This engineering marvel, opened in 2001, features four giant wheels shaped like Celtic axes to lift and lower boats, replacing 11 locks. It can transport multiple boats at once between the two canals in just 45 minutes.
This engineering marvel was an amazing experience. We were able to see it in action. There are places for kids to play and learn. A great gift shop and huge cafe in a beautiful setting. Plenty of parking and restrooms.

Visited on Sunday morning quite as the wheel was not in operational for yearly maintenance. Beautiful walks around with canal boast parked on walks. Impressive engineering disappointed visited at maintenance time . Cafe was good with good choices of items and coffee . Toilets clean and quite a lot of photos inside the visiting centre with information. No sign with regard to free parking as at entry said auto number plate reader bit confusing.

Great visit despite issues ment The Wheel wasn't working ☹️ fascinating structure and due to few visitors we got to wander around and take in all it's features... so all wasn't lost. Plan to return and book the trip 😊 Everywhere was spotless and lentil soup in the cafe was delicious 😋 Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. We bought some items from the gift shop... just to remind us to return. Word of warning... parking isn't free, it's ticketless and you need to remember to pay £3.50 on site before leaving or you will receive a fine. Staff told us but I imagine at busier times that message might not get through to everyone 👍🏻

The Falkirk Wheel is an impressive and iconic piece of engineering. Although I arrived after 5:30 PM and missed seeing it in action, the structure alone is worth the visit. The surrounding area offers lovely views, making it a pleasant stop even without the full experience. I’m looking forward to returning earlier next time to enjoy the complete attraction.
Shintimon T — Google review
Amazing to watch and even better to ride it..... lovely cafe and gift shop. Parking is £4 all day. There are kids little water boats, crazy golf, water play and learn and a large play and area with swings slide and all the usual stuff. A great day out
Franita P — Google review
The Falkirk Wheel has always been on my to-do list, so since we were in the area, we finally decided to visit. Overall, it was a great experience! Because of the Easter holidays, there were plenty of extra activities going on, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was lovely and the surroundings were very pleasant. The only downside was the lack of public toilets and the poor condition of the ones available — definitely something that could be improved. Apart from that, everything else was spot on, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars.
Alok B — Google review
A great feat of engineering on display is surrounded by lots of enjoyable activities within the same area to make it a great day out for adults and children in one place. Great staff, big food places, lots of parking at a reasonable price. You can also stay overnight in a motorhome by paying £18. Which is a good deal, incudes waste disposal, fresh water etc. The only downside on the day was a couple of young lads were racing around on the top of the hill on a motorbike wearing masks and no helmets, being a danger to themselves and the people around them.
Geoff D — Google review
Amazing piece of mechanics with real life experience. Our kids loved the experience. Recommend booking tickets in advance and check for time. We arrived around 11:45 and our tickets were about 2 hours later.

Go-karting venue
Sights & Landmarks
Xtreme Karting Falkirk is an indoor go-kart track that caters to children aged 8 and above. The facility boasts high-performance karts and a large circuit, accompanied by a comfortable track-side lounge. The staff is highly praised for their great service, including the Kart School program that has received positive feedback from visitors. However, some customers have raised concerns about the cost of sessions which are quite expensive given the short duration of only 2 sets of 7 minutes each.
The session was great fun, safe and really good value. Beth and Sandra were extremely courteous and considerate especially as I wasn’t feeling particularly well in my third race. Overall this is an amazing activity and I definitely recommend it.

First visit as a celebration for my daughter’s 11th birthday. All the kids absolutely loved it and despite initial nerves, the staff were amazing at helping them and they were all completely buzzing afterwards. Highly recommend x

Staff are so friendly, professional and really helpful. We have had a brilliant time, even though my partners wee girl had to come off with fear 😂😂, they were excellent with her. We still really enjoyed it. This is a great day out for all ages. Highly recommend

Took the lad for a 4 x 10 min session, great fun and awesome staff. Course was a mix of adrenaline and skills and watching the lap times come down. Was well chuffed that I can still beat the lad at some things 💪 if you need an activity to do during the half term you will be hard pushed to find anything better. Thanks to the falkirk team for looking after us.

Thank you to the amazing staff at Xtreme Karting in Falkirk. As a first timer I can’t deny having a moment of panic before heading onto the track but the staff were so friendly. Easing my fear and telling me it’s okay to go fast or slow. Honestly the crew around the track were superb. The thumbs up to check if okay by each too as I did the first couple laps didn’t go unnoticed. A guy who worked there was also part of our race team. On the second go around he gave me a thumbs up and again did not go unnoticed. Felt really cared for throughout the experience. If you’re hesitant to book honestly just try it! I was the slowest one going around the track but had the best time. If anyone you’re taking is a bit nervous honestly just tell the instructors in the first instance and they’ll check-in! I’ll definitely be back and will be highly recommending! To go from panic to going round the track I’m so proud of myself and the pit stop crew made that happen! So thank you so VERY much!!!

Booked for my sons birthday.... they had a great day and were very well looked after. Limited to 8 participants, we had more that would have liked to race. However I understand the need to limit the number of racers. Liked that the spectators had screens with lap times etc ..

I booked a karting session for my 10-year-old son and his friend at Xtreme Karting Falkirk last Wednesday at 5:00 PM. Despite leaving on time from Edinburgh, we arrived 15 minutes late due to heavy evening traffic and roadworks. When we explained the situation to the staff, they offered no solution and refused to accommodate the children, even after they had traveled a long way for this experience. The children were incredibly excited for this session and had been looking forward to it for days. Yet, due to your rigid, inflexible, and customer-unfriendly approach, they were left completely disappointed. It is unacceptable for a business catering to children to be this inconsiderate. When we emailed our complaint, the response we received only made matters worse. Saying that we could “rebook for the weekend if weekdays were not suitable” is nothing but a dismissive and unhelpful reply. The reason we booked a weekday session was NOT our availability—it was because all weekend slots were fully booked! We had no choice but to book a weekday session. The time and effort we put into making our children happy, along with the £53 we paid, were completely wasted due to your unprofessional and careless attitude. My son, who was once thrilled about karting and eager to return, now never wants to come back because of this frustrating experience. This is not just about our family—this should serve as a warning for all parents considering Xtreme Karting Falkirk. I strongly do not recommend this place. A business catering to children should prioritize customer satisfaction, yet your lack of flexibility and unwillingness to provide a reasonable solution highlight a major failure in service. I will be escalating this matter to the relevant authorities to ensure that this kind of poor customer service is properly addressed. I sincerely hope you reflect on this incident and take steps to improve your approach.

Fortress
Historical landmark
Antonine Roman Fort is located at the end of a rough road, leading to a small free car park. Visitors can walk along the Antonine Wall and explore the fort site, with information boards explaining its historical significance. The area is popular among dog walkers and offers a steady walk with scenic views. While there are no visible ruins, signs at the site depict how it may have looked 2000 years ago.
Roughcastle. Roman Fort on Antonine wall. I had no idea this was here. The only other parts of the Antonine wall I’ve seen were not as impressive as this amazing site. We especially liked the ‘man traps’ which would originally have had lethal spikes inside. We are also delighted that we lived ‘north of the wall’ and we are the naughty Scot’s that the Romans were trying to keep at bay! Great woods to walk around. Lots of info boards to explain what you are seeing. We walked a short section of the JohnMuir trail which took us to the Falkirk wheel. Great half day of exploration in the woods and then watching the barges on the wheel. Loved it. 😻
Weewildadventure — Google review
A natural area with peaceful walks and loads of history with information boards and dig sites where an ancient roman fort was excavated. If you love nature walks, this is a perfect site to see.
Marco K — Google review
Don't let the name or even the positive reviews raise your expectations. There is no fort, wall or even ruins here. There are some grass hills where a fort USED to be (1900 years ago) and a bunch of signs marking the location with some historical facts. About the only evidence of a fort is a ditch that was dug by the Romans at the entrance to where the fort was. No rocks or structure remain. The walk from the Falkirk Wheel was quite long and the ground can be a little rough with rocks underfoot that can be uncomfortable if you don't have reasonable shoes. I probably wouldn't have went I had known the above.
Patrick — Google review
Great place for Roman history buffs as well as hikers. Good illustrations and explanations on-site give you an impression of how this northernmost Roman defense line looked 1800 years ago. Visitors should note that there is no stone wall or castle or fort to see there today. It takes about 15-20 min to walk from the parking at the Falkirk Wheel. The path is only signposted in the beginning, so to get to the Antonine Wall and Fort you need to take the correct turn at a couple of intersections in the forest.
Bjørnar H — Google review
Initially I had no idea there was a Roman ruins site near the Falkirk Wheel. Intrigued, I followed the signposts from the Wheel. Some of the terrain is very rocky, so don’t wear flat shoes like I did 😂 When I got there there were lots of signposts around to tell me of the site that was here. Was a little muddy in places but it was a dull and miserable day that I had visited. Well worth a look if you’re in the area and are interested in Roman history like myself.
Kathryn H — Google review
The road is very rough on the way up to the very small car park, which is free. Go through the gate and walk in the Romans footsteps along the Antonine Wall or follow the trail over the burn and up to the site of the fort. It’s a nice steady walk and there’s a fairly big area to cover to see it all. There are a number of information boards to read which help to explain what there is and where things are or would have been 2000 years ago. The area is used by a lot of dog walkers. I can’t blame them as it’s a lovely place to go, with some great views. There’s a waste bin in the car park so there’s no excuse to leave any rubbish behind. I would highly recommend a visit, reading the boards and use your imagination, it’s worth it, if only for the peace and quiet. There are no facilities here.
Dave H — Google review
It should say Roman Fort "site". There are no ruins here of a Fort or Roman wall. At best, there are explanatory markers. Nonetheless, the hilly trail parallels cow pastures and crosses a quaint babbling brook that leads into a small forest, all of which makes for a pleasant and easy one mile hike.
Ari E — Google review
Interesting history. It's in contrast to the stronger built castles and allows for a good amount of hiking. I believe there are different ways to access the Antonine Wall and Fort. We stopped on a dead-end road with limited parking. There were several locals walking their dogs.

We went today 4/8/23, Baz the instructor was brilliant. Aidan (13) and I (oldish at 51), had a great time. I started off nervous but quickly got the hang of it thanks to Baz. Aidan said he had the best day. We are still buzzing, thank you 😊

I would give this a miss. The food was insanely over prices (£5 for a small hot chocolate & cream). The trail was very muddy and no effort had.been made to make the path safer for the amount of walking and standing it was taking over a short period of time mixed with a lot of rain. The "light show" was amazingly poor, a couple of lights partially lighting up a tree. For £12 per adult this was not worth it at all. Avoid at all costs and save your money. The Falkirk wheel was beautifully lit up.
Bekki C — Google review
Really disappointing. Definitely not worth the money. A few random lights scattered around does not create a magical experince. Left standing in the middle of the walk for over 15 minutes waiting on santa ? Amanda the elf did try to brighten the crowd however by this time spirits were dampened and beyond repair. Food trucks were ok and the rides were a good way of making it up to my 2 very disappointed kids. I would not recommend this at the price they are charging. I think it was an absolute rip off.
Stacey K — Google review
Was really looking forward to this and was majorly disappointed, as were the kids. Not well organised or signposted at all from the Boardwalk side. Long muddy path with a few lights and music. 2 reindeer. Tiny sweet and photo with Santa. Amusements and food majorly overpriced. Not worth the money at all. Wouldn’t do it again.
Stacy C — Google review
Went to the light experience. It was an experience. Had to prebook a space, paid £55 for me and my family. So we turned up 10 mins early as was suggested and we got told that we wouldn't be taken on time due to people not adhering to the pre-booked times. One member of staff even told us people weren't even turning up on the right day. So we had to wait about 45 mins with a 1 year old in the cold when we spoke to staff about it we got told it wasn't their fault and they couldn't control when people came in. Finally we got in and the lights were a few coloured spot lights on a tree. You have to walk up a dark slippery path. Santa and the elves were good and they had reindeers which were cool. But certainly not worth the money there are far better Christmas events that you can spend your money on.
Chris V — Google review
Any one considering Rough Castle Christmas Miracle, do yourself a favour and don't go. Absolutely rubbish. Nothing to see except santa and two reindeer. No miracle, and you get a sweetie, I mean one sweetie, on exit. All the rides, well, the 4 there, are £3 each and a coffee sets you back a fiver. The path isn't a winter Wonderland. It has some lights and lots, and lots, then a bit more mud. Absolutely a waste of money and time

Indian restaurant
Sanam Tandoori, an established eatery with a chic modern wallpaper and elegant dark wood tables, offers Indian cuisine. Recent visitors were impressed by the interior design, noting that it had changed since their last visit years ago. The menu, though limited and slightly expensive compared to other Indian restaurants, received mixed reviews. Some enjoyed the lamb chops and tandoori tikka starters while praising the quality of naan bread.
Came for Christmas dinner with the family and it was absolutely delicious. What a beautiful restaurant, atmosphere, staff so attentive and friendly. The chicken tikka main.. oh my god. Softest chicken ever so delicious! Thank you so much for an excellent Christmas meal. Will be back.

Wow this place is so excellent on every level! The tandoori chicken and other dishes were fantastic!! The flavors were so authentic Indian and super fresh ingredients. Our waitress was super sweet, great at her job, very professional and lovely young lady. And the other male waiter was really great too. The restaurant is very calming and has a beautiful layout, decor and pristine bathroom. The beer is great too! We highly recommend this place and want to go back again and again!

Amazing delicious food! Come across this place as we were passing by, the food smelt wonderful so decided to give it a go. Did not disappoint. Attentive staff, stylish interiors and most of all the food tasted delicious! Big portions and freshly cooked. Left with full bellies! Will be back next time we’re up in Falkirk.

This place has won and been nominated for many awards over the years and you can see why! Food is so amazing and so fresh, all cooked and brought out at piping hot. Had a very varied selection of starters as well as well-known to very traditional and authentic curries Have to be one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve tried in a while. The staff were really lovely, will recommend and explain about the dishes and are willing to accommodate if you fancy taking your time or if you want to have a quick meal.

The staff are so nice and friendly. I went by the recommendation from a staff member lamb curry. My meal was made to my taste (mild). It was really tasty and not too spicy. The price was reasonable and the restaurant was clean.

This is honestly the best curry I've ever had, the food was fresh and beautiful, the staff where very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean, spacious and decorated lovely. Also very reasonably priced Highly recommend 5⭐ My only complaint is it's not closer to home, but will look forward to visiting again on my next Scottish holiday.

Very annoyed with the Sanam. A group of 10 of my friends went for food last night and the food was great apart from the vegetarian in our group being served a seafood dish (thankfully they didn't have any allergies). The thing that annoyed me most was the owner deliberately overcharging us as we paid individually since we weren't going to leave a tip. Didn't realise until after we had left. Won't be back in a hurry.

Italian restaurant

The italian restaurant Chianti Restaurant is a great place to eat with lovely decor and friendly staff. The food is amazing and the wine list is good too.
I’m staying in the Falkirk Travel lodge for a month whilst I work at Grangemouth , so tonight I thought I’d give Chianti Italian restaurant a try and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. The food was great and the 2 young women running front of house were very welcoming & doing a great job. Arancini was very fresh and authentic and you’ll see from the photos the beer and steak was also on point. I’d advise anyone local thinking about going , or anyone staying near by in one of hotels to get yourself booked in.

Oh my gosh. We went back to chianti for the first time in years. The guy who originally bought it and went away, is back. Amazing food. Amazing service. Great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!! Thanks for a lovely evening!! X

An Italian restaurant in the middle os Scotland. We were with a big group without reservations but that went well. Parking is easy and the welcome was ok. Especially coming in with 10 people. They had to arrange some tables but when that was done it was cosy and comfortable. The staff is friendly and professional. Now the food: the food was typical Italian and that in the middle of an other country surprised me a little. Because we had a bigger group I could see (not taste) all different dishes. It looked amazing The dish I had was good.

We stayed in the hotel close by and found this gem. By far the best Italian food I've ever had. So good in fact we dined here again the following evening . Daves service was brilliant and the Chef needs commending for producing quality food time and time again. thank you to the Chianti team.

Visited by chance, excellent food and wine. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Not many customers when we arrived but started filling up quickly.

It was my first time at Chianti with being gluten and milk intolerant. Lunch menu had a couple options for myself, starters; smoked salmon and minestrone soup, mains; gf pasta in arrabiata sauce, minute steak. I had minestrone soup (and it still came with normal bread and butter) and minute steak with chips in a tomato sauce and then peppermint tea. It was delicious, and I would have it again. My family had spaghetti carbonara, minute steak and strawberry cheesecake and 3 scoops of ice cream; vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. All meals were amazing, and I must admit, I would have loved to have the spaghetti carbonara, but there was no alternative for my intolerances.

Tea house
Breakfast restaurant
Tea Jennys ltd is a charming tea shop in Falkirk that offers a delightful dining experience. While some reviews mentioned limited space between tables, the overall experience was positive, especially when seated near the door. The place is popular and doesn't take reservations, so arriving early is recommended to secure a table. The shop has recently added outdoor seating with heaters for an enjoyable experience. Visitors can expect a wide selection of teas and delectable cakes to choose from.
I had looked online to find somewhere nice to have lunch whilst visiting Falkirk & this place took my fancy. I did have one major concern - a lot of the reviews I had read commented on the fact the there wasn't much room between the tables and being a larger lady this nearly put me off going. When I got there yes there wasn't a great deal of space but luckily one of the tables nearer the door was available & this one had more room so I was ok. I'm so glad I was able to stay & enjoy lunch as it really was good. The tea was lovely & served in a wee teapot with it's own wee quirky tea cosy. I ordered a Cajun Chicken Panini & my hubby got his favourite Mac & Cheese. Both these meals were excellent...my panini was so tasty & you couldn't miss the Cajun spice on the chicken, which I liked as sometimes chicken fillers can be so bland but this wasn't the case with this one. My husband said the Mac & Cheese was one of the best he has tasted & that's quite a compliment as its favorite dish to order when we are eating out. It was a good size portion with 2 generous slices of garlic bread accompanying it. Although we were rather full it didn't stop my hubby having a slice of cake, again a generous portion & he said the cake was delicious. We decided to treat our daughter who wasn't with us to a wee Viennese Swirl - again delicious. The staff were very welcoming & attentive. So all in the visit was a great success & if I was in the area again I would definitely go back.

We always love visiting here when we are passing by falkirk. It is a must if you have never been before. Its only open during the day so make sure you don't arrive to late or you ll miss out. You can't book a table, so make sure you get down early as they are always full as its such an amazing place. They have just added extra seats outside aswell with heaters which is lovely. They have an amazing selection of teas and soo many amazing cakes to choose from. The lunch menu is great aswell lots of choice at great prices. The staff are always lovely, amazing service whenever you go. Very covid safe aswell, they have hand sanitiser on all the tables and you can download the menu to your phone it couldn't be easier. Thank you for another amazing visit, can't wait for our next one.

Very disappointed with choice of fillings for sandwiches. Cake's lovely but over twenty eight pounds for 4cakes and 4 hot drinks expensive! And left feeling hungry as wanted sandwiches but all fillings did not appeal.

Lovely we afternoon for my 90 year old gran and aunty. Nice portions (half for pensioners) and love the way they do their tea, proper stuff. Been here a few times over the years and never been disappointed, staff are great too. Be patient if you have to wait for a table, it's never too long and always worth the wait.

Wow. Just, you know, wow. That place is just a pure magic, in every drop of tea, every bite of cake, every breath you inhale, and every music tone you can hear. Space is limited, and this place is busy, but when I got my juice and focused a bit on the pre-50's music, got bite of so-damn-good mint cake, and began conversation with my love, immediately felt so good, that it hadn't matter that I'm surrouned by other tables. Bit more of magic is aswell location of it - one of few last courts in Falkirk. And these little costumes on tea cups! All of these makes this place so individual! Definitely will come back, and definitely I recommend it to everyone!

Myself and my family are from Ayrshire and came across this place before we left and so glad we ate here! Kids meals were great and good value. My husband and I shared 3 starters and main and they were honestly the best food we have had in so long. My husband decided he was still hungry so we had 2 more starters to share!! Amazing! Staff were lovely as well.

Lovely food. Great service . Food is delicious and comes out looking great. The cocktails are a must try plus the raspberry lemonade was lush. Thanks to the staff who waited on us as a table of 8. Very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. It made for an enjoyable lunch. Thank you!

Very nice pub/restaurant. It was pretty busy so that is usually a good sign. I didn't get the chaps name but the waiter we had was very friendly and very professional. I ordered the fish and chips. It was very very nice. If I am ever back in the area I would certainly go here again. When I asked our waiter for the bill he took my napkin and did a Paul Daniels magic trick which turned the napkin into my bill. It was worth the price of the fish and chips just for that. 👍

One of my favourite places in Falkirk. I really appreciate the real ales and unique vegetarian selection. My partner says the meat stuff is good, too. Service has always been fab. Will be back soon.

~4.5/5 if I could. A great and accommodating western (Tex Mex + a few other options) restaurant with a huge drinks menu. I recommend sit in for large groups and will definitely go again if I am in the area. Me and a group of 10 came walked in and they had a place (not busy at the time). We ordered a few starters and a variety of mains. Feedback was almost completely positive. Starters were good. One friend complained the beef was a little dry on his skewers. Their mac and cheese was among the best I had from restaurants. Very rich and cheesy without being overpowering, salty or pasty. The maple bacon on mine had a sweetness and smokiness that paired well. Their fish and chips and fish loaded fries (the same except the size) were amazing. I am a sucker for good fries and these guys do it well. So crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Fish was crispy, tartar sauce was good wish they gave more. Other items like pizza, loaded nachos, beef & haggis burger were all good with generous portions. A personal complaint is that their southern fried chicken lacked seasoning (though my Scot friend who ordered it greatly enjoyed, I suppose catering to the population in the area is actually a big plus). Desserts were mostly good. I highly recommend the icky sticky (toffee pudding), chocolate brownie and cheesecake. Their caramel is genuine (not from a jar/bottle, probably made in house or just a really good buy) and amazing on the cheesecake. However, the salted caramel brownie barely had any, which was disappointing. It was still a good dessert, just not as good as the others and lacked what the name mentioned. Churros were also nice. They accommodate dietary requirements well, however I am unsure if any of their meat is halal (they serve pork regardless). They have some gluten free and vegan options. We did not order any of the few international items on the menu (better stick to the main theme of the restaurant, we thought). They have a huge drinks and whisky section, and hold whisky tastings. We did not try as we had Muslim friends at the table. However, I do recommend their restaurant for whisky enjoyers.

A bit tight for time as we were gigging close by at Falkirk Blues Club, we received very efficient service from some really friendly and attentive staff. The menu is extensive, pizzas, burgers etc but we went for excellent Chicken and beef fajitas with tortillas and a side of Sweet potato fries. We also had some deep fried creamy cheese Poppers.Somewhat like unspiced Pakora.Very savoury and delicious. The restaurant was very busy and has a warm welcoming ,cosy atmosphere .Price was £64 for 4 people. Very reasonable for such quality fare.

Behind the wall was simply fabulous, great food and the most wonderful staff. What was particularly special was an accommodating nature around allergies that I have never seen as someone with a nightshade allergy this restaurant dealt with it and were splendid. Cannot recommend enough!

Johnston's Bar Bistro is a casual two-level restaurant that serves classic breakfast dishes and hearty bistro meals, along with a selection of beer and cocktails. The atmosphere is described as lovely, with friendly staff and additional seating upstairs for a more relaxed dining experience away from the bar downstairs. Visitors have praised the beautiful decor, generous portion sizes, and variety of menu options including choices for vegetarians and gluten-free diets.
Had a lovely lunch time visit. Ordered brie and cranberry baguette with side of soup and it was great. Lovely, friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. We sat in the additional seating upstairs which was nice and away from the hustle and bustle of the bar downstairs. 4 clean plates sent back to kitchen! Reasonably priced for the quality and size of portions. COVID rules at time of visit: face mask when moving around, hand sanitiser on entry, track and trace required.

Best in Falkirk. What a lovely place the decor is beautiful, classy and so tasteful. From the second you step into the bistro the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. The food was amazing, such generous portions. The menus had such a verity of choice and a good choice also if you are vegetarian or gluten free. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend.
