The Westin St. John Resort Villas offers a perfect family getaway with well-maintained properties, excellent service, and comfortable accommodations. Guests recommend having a car to explore the island easily and enjoy the ocean views from upgraded rooms. While the main restaurant is average, there are plenty of dining options in town. The hotel provides a relaxing base for exploring St. John, with friendly staff offering information and exceptional service.
We had an amazing time at the Westin. The location is fantastic. The beach and pool are wonderful. We really enjoyed the stand-up paddle boards and kayaks. The staff was all very helpful and friendly. There are taxis available to take you wherever you want to go on the island, but we enjoyed having a car for our family.
As the only resort on the island - it’s tough to rate. There’s not much incentive for the staff to give anything better than a mediocre experience.
The resort itself is clean and beautiful. The beach bay is stunning with picturesque hills and marina. But - the staff needs to get it together. They act like they’re doing you such a favor to help with anything. Front desk was way below expectations in terms of friendliness, check in process, and getting back to guests regarding inquiries.
It’s tolerable if you have your heart set on coming to St. John and want a resort experience. But if you’re not tied to St. John, there are other resorts in this price range that will give a much better experience.
Pros,
The location is beautiful, has irs own private coce/beach. The water is crystal clear. The locals around the resort are friendly and welcoming. The beach clean. Katherine at the Lemongrass and Neil the cart driver were both awesome and helpful. The grounds and wildlife are beautiful.
Cons,
The rooms are nice, but some maintenance is lacking. The service overall is poor. There are a few workers who try to be helpful overall, so I gave it two stars. The majority are not friendly or helpful. Getting food in the resort took over two hrs from the time of seating to get food. Some employees are telling you the pool and amenities are 24hrs, then the sign at them tells you it closes at. You can see the lack of management and training is obvious. Staff is overwhelmed and I overheard multiple complaints of no breaks or food for workers.
We stayed in one of the hillside studio villas. The room was nice enough and had a full kitchen and washer and dryer, which was convenient to have. The bed was comfortable. The villas also have their own shared pools, which was nice when we didn't feel like fighting for chairs at the main pool.
The service was friendly the entire visit. This includes the front desk, housekeeping, poolside bar staff, and the people driving the golf carts to get people around the resort.
The location is good and close to Cruz Bay. It has a beach and other things like tennis/pickleball courts and even a disc golf course. That said, we preferred to check out the other beaches of the island which meant having to drive through Cruz Bay and around the island to get to them. Thankfully St. John isn't huge so it wasn't too bad of a drive, but it's not very convenient for that.
Overall, I'd gladly stay at The Westin St. John again.
Nice room, good pool, good food, sandy beach, free parking. A family friendly place. Many 3-generation families were there. There is a kiddie pool area. Chickens and iguanas also interest the kids. Snorkels restaurant is right on the beach for eat in or take out. We booked an evening kayak trip around the bay. Lots of golf cart shuttles running around the resort if you need a ride. Westin offers a transport package for you and your bags from the St. Thomas airport right to the resort. It's more expensive than the taxi and Red Hook ferry, but very convenient. Staff at the resort was always friendly and helpful. 10 minute drive from Cruz Bay. Taxis are always available. Don't even think about walking the narrow, twisty and hilly road to town.
