Some friends and I came here for brunch while visiting College Station, Texas. The food was very tasty, and service was great. Even though our sever got a couple of things wrong with our order, he apologized and fixed them without hesitation. I would come back, and I certainly recommend!
I’ve eaten at Brazos PTK numerous time, since their opening and this morning I had the best experience I’ve ever had. From their hostess Laisha, and her knowledge and explanation of the menu vs buffet and all the options available with the buffet, to the food prepared by Chef Aries! Suzanne our waitress has waited on us before and not only remembered my coffee order from last time we were here, but gave me menu options (how I’d like my egg cooked on my sandwich, etc) that I’d never been asked before. She is absolutely a joy to encounter and just brings a light to the morning! The staff was quite busy when we arrived, being only 2 servers and the supervisor Delaney they handled the rush well! No one seemed to wait for their food, tables got cleaned and reset by Laisha in a timely manner, there was never an unhappy patron that I saw! It was a great morning to be here and see such amazing team work by these 4 amazing and hard working women! And, to have a delicious sandwich from Aries as well!
I was CRAVING salmon and was so excited to come here. I was exhausted, training was rough and I just wanted a relaxing dinner. Started off with a salad and it was tasty. Wished it had more items for it being extra but I didn’t want to complain. I ordered my salmon medium rare and it was well done and dry. The grits and broccolini saved the dish overall but the salmon was super disappointing.
I definitely recommend the carrot cake. That was amazing and big enough for two!
Rylan, our server was super attentive and helpful. I wish him well with his future plans!
Overall I would do this restaurant again, but I would definitely order something that has less chance of being dry if overcooked
This is far from a Proper Texas Kitchen.
I recently dined at Brazos, and while our server told us that the kitchen was under new management and had just hired a new chef, the experience left much to be desired. Despite the heads-up, I was still shocked at how far the quality fell below the premium pricing.
The meal began with a charcuterie board that was an immediate disappointment. It featured Ritz club crackers and cubed cheese—far from the sophisticated presentation one would expect. Following this, I had the lobster bisque soup, which was another letdown. It was overly salty, thin in texture, and completely lacked the rich, layered flavor that defines a proper bisque.
The main course didn’t fare much better. While the steak was flavorful, it was not cooked to the requested temperature. Although the staff offered to fix it, the rest of the meal had already left a poor impression. The sides were borderline inedible: both were so over-salted that they overshadowed any other potential flavors. The twice-baked potato had an odd, unpleasant consistency, and the risotto was bland and lifeless, offering nothing of the creaminess or seasoning you’d expect. The whole table maybe took one or two bites of their sides before giving up.
It felt like they were trying to serve uninspired, generic food at a high price point. However, I must highlight that our server was incredible—attentive, professional, and clearly doing their best under the circumstances.
Unfortunately, even the excellent service couldn’t save the experience. While I understand growing pains with a new chef, the quality fell so short of expectations that I won’t be returning anytime soon. For the price, I expected far better.
Brazos Proper Texas Kitchen in College Station is a must-visit for anyone craving bold, flavorful Texas cuisine. The Ribeye is outstanding, tender and smoky, while the sides, like the crispy brussel sprouts , are equally impressive. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is friendly and attentive. With a great selection of craft beers and cocktails, plus a delicious pecan pie for dessert, every part of the experience is top-notch. Highly recommended for a memorable meal!
