Palazzo Strozzi is a magnificent 15th Century (Renaissance) residence in central Florence. Today it is a hub of culture hosting concerts, exhibitions and installations. An exhibition of the work of Helen Frankenthaler, an American abstract artist, runs until January 26. It’s well worth visiting. Allow about 90 minutes but you may want more time if you really enjoy this type of art. It certainly makes a change from the Renaissance works which proliferate in the churches and museums of Florence. No line ups. Magnificent spaces to hang these very large works of art. Well curated by Douglas Dreishpoon. There are also works by her contemporaries Jackson Pollack, David Smith, Anne Truitt, Mark Rothko, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Kenneth Noland and Anthony Caro. Don’t miss.
An exhibition of DRIFT opens this week. I’ll comment on it in November on my next visit to Florence. I saw their work already in Amsterdam. Looks interesting
