Barton Springs Municipal Pool in Austin is a refreshing oasis with cold natural spring water, offering a great escape from the heat. Visitors mention the cool water temperature, spacious grass areas for lounging, diving boards, lifeguards for safety, clean facilities including restrooms and changing rooms, and stunning views of the skyline. Some reviewers highlight the family-friendly environment with shallow areas for kids and various activities like swimming, tubing, jumping off bridges or using ropes to swing into the water. The pool's accessibility varies for handicapped individuals due to slippery bottoms and hilly surroundings. Overall, Barton Springs is praised as a must-visit spot in Austin for its serene ambiance and unique experience of swimming in natural spring waters.
A true Gem in the heart of the city. Took our grandkids here in October and although the water was cold it was a great way to cool off and enjoy the outdoors. The restrooms are clean as are the grounds. The floor of the springs is slippery so be careful. You cannot bring in food but you can go out to the park to picnic. We spent several hours there exploring. Absolutely a must do if you are in town.
Barton Springs Pool is a unique Austin attraction, but our visit had some unexpected hiccups. We used the self-service kiosk for ticket purchase, which was $9 for non-residents (seniors 62+ qualify for discounts). Be prepared for a bit of a walk past ongoing bathhouse construction, which was a minor inconvenience.
A major disappointment occurred at the entrance. We were informed that food and coolers are strictly prohibited. While the staff mentioned signage, there were no such signs visible at the ticket kiosks. This rule completely derailed our plan for a poolside picnic. The rationale given was to prevent ants, which ironically were still prevalent on the lawn. Leaving our coolers outside was frustrating.
The water itself is undeniably cold, but you do acclimate. The pool offers a wide range of depths, from 1ft to 8ft, and even includes a diving board. There’s ample lawn space for sunbathing and relaxation.
While the "no food" policy was a significant drawback, I'd likely revisit Barton Springs. However, my strongest recommendation is to leave all food and coolers at home to avoid a similar experience.
Water is so clear and love chilling at this place! The fencing area will cost money if you are citizen of Austin area will be $5 but if not then $9 per person! Definitely worth the money and experience for sure! Will definitely come back with friends and family next time!
Having lived in Austin for a few years, Barton Springs Pool quickly became one of our favorite spots to cool off during the scorching summer months. The pool is fed by natural spring water, maintaining a comfortable 68-70°F year-round, which is a perfect escape from the intense heat and humidity of Austin summers. Whether you're swimming laps or just relaxing in the water, it’s always refreshing.
The location itself is beautiful, with lush greenery surrounding the pool and the Barton Creek greenbelt right nearby, making it a great place for a full day outdoors. It's a family-friendly spot, but also great for anyone looking for a peaceful swim or to take in the stunning views. We spent many afternoons lounging here, If you're ever in Austin, don’t miss this natural oasis. Also consider hiking the greenbelt upstream, there are other secret natural pools you might get all to yourself.
Perfect place for a day out with friends or family, you can swim, picnic or get your dog. It’s good for everyone, kids, friends, family. The best part, the separate pool access to the pets. Yoga sessions, live music. This place has great vibe. Perfect Summer Sunday. Food and drinks are not allowed to the pool, but can picnic right outside. Has plenty of parking. Easy to get around. Water is clean.
