The Terengganu State Museum, located in Kampung Losong, is the largest museum in Southeast Asia and a top attraction in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The complex features buildings inspired by traditional houses and spans four buildings with nine galleries. Visitors can explore exhibits such as ancient inscription stones, traditional weapons, Islamic art, and traditional houses. The museum also boasts lush gardens and ponds for visitors to enjoy.
Entrance fee is around Rm5 IIRC. The place is hugeee.. can easily rack up 2 - 5 thousand steps. Got 4 building but when i went there, building D was not opened. Each building have multiple level You can definitely learn a lot and is much more fun yo learn here compare to ChatGPT.

Parking🅿️ spaces are very limited, and there were quite a lot of people on Monday afternoon. The entrance is on a high staircase, where the ticket office is also. Tickets: 5RM for local adults, 15RM for non-local adults. There are four exhibition halls in the museum area - Block A, B, C, and D. Hall A is the largest, with three floors. The front building at the entrance is mainly the local royal exhibition hall. Going inside is the systematic exhibition area of local culture. Hall B is a painting exhibition, including the natural exhibition downstairs and the Islamic exhibition upstairs. Hall C is a motorcycle exhibition. Hall D is education-related. The highlight is actually the museum building itself, which is really magnificent. The layout and information introduction in the exhibition hall are much inferior, the facilities are old and lack maintenance, too many spotlights are broken, and the overall dark. Food and drinks need to be temporarily stored at the entrance. The toilet does not provide toilet paper. PS, Hall D closes at about 3pm. 🎬2025.2.10

It’s so beautiful historical museum, many things to see, read, and learn about. The territory also amazing for photos. But most of the signs and descriptions in Malay, no English! Museum not focusing the foreign tourists, only locals unfortunately so I cannot even promote it on my IG

Visit to Terengganu Museum We went during a public holiday, but it wasn’t too crowded. Entry fee was RM5 for adults and RM3 for children. The atmosphere was beautiful with a nice museum vibe. While the collection isn’t as extensive as the one in Melaka, it’s still a worthwhile experience for history lovers. The museum is quite tall and exploring everything can be a bit tiring, but overall it was a good and meaningful experience.

i have been to a few state museum before, and this Terengganu state museum is by far the most spectacular one. really love the architecture design here. the exhibits also have a lot of varieties. visited here on May 2024. it was moderately crowded. the ticket is inexpensive, and with the exhibits we get to view its definitely a great value. each section is clearly defined. but when we there some section still not yet ooen, hope to visit here another time. overall this is a great and educational visit. wish we have more time here on next visit to truly explore every section. highly recommended for museum goers

Surprisingly good. So far comparing to other state museum, here is much better. Good architecture, but they have to rethink about the visitors flow. A loop is much better. Some section you have to turn back to get to another section. It's a waste of time, because the place quite huge, turning back would be harder for older people. Museum should be able to keep anticipation of visitors at always high.

I like the architecture of this place a lot. But I feel like they can put like kids interactive games so they can engage more. Idk maybe put like screen projection where people can dress up like old malay warrior and play around. i know there is technology exist. The people's faces of the ticket counter, information counter and the guard all don't even crack a smile which I sapa all of them. Some of the references are missing like exhibit 6A doesnt show the replica. Idk if museum lighting is like this but it's very dim inside. Even the lighting for the replicas seem dim. And lastly, there are two more museum of animal and islamic on the other side, which there is no sign and direction at all to go that places and when I reach there.. my man, it was dull especially the stuff animals. Most of them look weird, and it was kinda scary, small dim place where no one is there. Some fluid they use to preserve fishes has gone milky, and I cant even observe the morphology. This museum is old and the animal section need some refurbishment. And also there is no anak panah to guide people from car park to the entrance like what? I'm confused af trying to find the entrance. The highlight for me are the architecture of the buildings, all the replicas and the giant pothos on the outdoor area. Lol I spend two hours here cuz I read a lot.

The Muzium Negeri Terengganu, located in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia, is a cultural gem that offers a deep dive into the rich heritage and history of Terengganu. My kids had an enjoyable moment visiting this museum. Housed in a stunning traditional Malay palace-style building, the museum is one of the largest in Southeast Asia and is divided into several galleries, each focusing on different aspects of the state's history, culture, and natural environment. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing traditional Malay craftsmanship, including intricate wood carvings, textiles, and pottery. The museum also features a comprehensive collection of Islamic art, reflecting the state's strong Islamic heritage. One of the highlights is the Royal Gallery, which displays artifacts and memorabilia related to the Terengganu Sultanate, offering insights into the royal family's history and traditions. The natural history section is equally impressive, with exhibits on the state's diverse flora and fauna, as well as its geological formations. The museum also includes a maritime gallery, highlighting Terengganu's historical significance as a trading hub and its relationship with the sea. Overall, Muzium Negeri Terengganu is a must-visit for anyone interested in Malaysian culture and history. Its well-curated exhibits, beautiful architecture, and informative displays make it a valuable educational resource and a fascinating destination for both locals and tourists.

Flea & Street Markets
Pasar Payang, also known as Pasar Besar Kedai Payang, is a bustling central market located on the banks of the Terengganu River in Kuala Terengganu. This indoor market offers a modern shopping experience and features a wide range of traditional handicrafts such as batik cloth, silk products, gold brocade, and brassware. Visitors can also find fresh agricultural products and local delicacies like chips, pottery, and salted fish.
Bought my lekor and dry food here. People are nice and they are open for bargain.

This is a good market to look for cloths. Different types of batik of varying qualities. Shop around for nice designs and better prices. Gold is also sold here (which I have heard anecdotally is cheaper compared to buying it in KL). Parking might be an issue. There is paid street parking outside the main entrance and a paid parking lot opposite the post office.

Well done! More than 20 years ago I frequently went here with my parents. Now, I travelled again with my friends. I'm very satisfied with the building conditions, ventilation, accessibility, facilities and everything. The toilet was clean and thumbs up for the escalator. Adapt to the changes. Modernise but keep the old way. Way too good compared to Pasar Siti Khadijah..I can say, old and resistance to change.
B_ F — Google review
This is the NEW Pasar Payang, a total upgrade from the original and traditional market, which had stood in that ground for many years already. A visit to Kuala Terengganu would not be complete without coming here, and with the full completion of the new facilities, many more tourists, local and foreign alike, would definitely be coming here in droves.. The last time I visited Pasar Payang about 8 years ago, it was still the old structure. I had to go through those dark, dinghy and congested alleys in between stalls, having to negotiate through seas of customers and sellers, in very unfavorable conditions. The building was mostly enclosed, air circulation and ventilation was very poor, and most people were heated and sweaty. Those were the "good" old days... Nowdays, the new building promises a breath of fresh air for all visitors and patrons. The walkways are more open and wider, the main central courtyard encouraged excellent air flow throughout the building, the ceilings were higher and windows provided better ventilation for all. Mainly, the traders were selling batik and songket attires, some art and craft items as well as foodstuffs. But I did observe that most of the stalls were selling similar items. Maybe there were multiple stalls owned by the same trader, or so it seemed. Overall, I enjoyed the new Pasar Payang more than the previous one. But, just a word of caution, getting a parking spot could be quite difficult. We had decided to take a grab car from our hotel, which was quite adjacently located, but the convenience was very much worth it..

The new pasar payang is convenient and has lots of space to navigate from the shop lot to another, must be a good bargain to get a reasonable price, take a look for the old shop and the ground floor , much better price but less options
Safuan G — Google review
The new Payang market is a more modern and orderly place compared to the old market. However, the traditional character and charm have been lost. It is still packed with stalls that sell Terengganu specific items. There are two sections to the market. The clothing and handicraft is located closer to the old Pasar Payang, next to the Chinatown. The food stalls, vegetable, fish, and meat vendors are in the bigger building closer to the Drawbridge. The best time to visit is any day other than the holiday season and weekends (Fridays and Saturdays). Be warned that the place gets packed during the holidays.

Ho Ann Kiong Temple, the oldest Chinese temple in Terengganu, was constructed in 1801 and is dedicated to Mazu, the sea goddess. Originally a place of worship for the Hokkien community, it has become a tourist attraction while still being visited by devotees annually. The temple suffered fire damage in 2010 but has since been reconstructed.
Ho Ann Kiong Temple was built in 1801 by the early Chinese community (mainly Fujianese) who immigrated to Terengganu. It is one of the oldest Chinese temples in Terengganu and an important religious center for the Chinese community. The temple has undergone many restorations, the most recent large-scale restoration was in 2010, due to a fire in 2008 that damaged some buildings. On the birthday of Mazu (March 23 of the lunar calendar), the temple will hold a grand sacrifice and parade ceremony. During festivals such as the Zhongyuan Festival, Guanyin Festival, and Chinese New Year, the temple will also hold prayers and celebrations. 🎬2025.2.10

Beautiful little piece of history, located not far from the Kg Cina gateway. A sense of peace surrounds this temple while we walked around admiring the architecture and soaking in the history of the structure. It's free entrance, but do give some donation for the upkeep of this temple and have a small little bit of fun ringing the bell 3x after doing so.

The Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque, also known as the Floating Mosque, is a stunning architectural marvel in Kuala Terengganu. This mosque boasts a blend of modern and Moorish design elements, featuring marble, ceramics, mosaic works, and concrete paving. Situated above an artificial lagoon, it creates the illusion of floating on water. Built by Sultan Mahmud as a tribute to his mother, this serene sanctuary offers picturesque views and is perfect for photography enthusiasts.
I missed this place so much. I came in the late afternoon to enjoy the view here. The beach area is still under construction, so it’s fenced off. I just took in the evening scenery facing this beautiful mosque. It’s still as stunning as before, though a pang of nostalgia hit me, bringing back old memories. Haha, feeling a bit sentimental here. IASSNSABM. I really do.

Beautiful mosque. Opposite is a beach full of coconut trees. This place is serene and beautiful. Lucky to have two ice cream vendors that sells double cone childhood time Ice cream. The younger vendor was very nice. He let the elder vendor get the business to sell to me instead. Very respectful of him.
Lily O — Google review
Cleanliness of the area surrounding the mosque has deteriorated to a point that many would prefer to skip visiting it. If the authorities don't improve the upkeep, this mosque will no longer be in the list of must visit. However, should you be curious, the mosque is also known as the "floating mosque" of Kuala Ibai. The bright white structure contrasts with the dark waters of a lake, which surrounds the mosque. When the waters are calm, a mirror image of the mosque forms under the actual mosque. There is a park surrounding the mosque. The park is no longer kept in a condition befitting a prime tourist attraction. The unsightly barricade along the Ibai River frontage destroys the picturesque scene. Visitors are turned off. Perhaps it is no longer worth visiting.
Nazif J — Google review
This beautiful floating mosque situated along the East Coast Federal Route 3, serves as an enchanting photo spot. Adjacent to the beach, there is a park where visitors can enjoy an even better view of the mosque. During my visit (school holiday), many people were picnicking at the park, creating a lively atmosphere. Upon closer inspection, I noticed some dirty marks on the white facade of the mosque. However, from a distance, the mosque still retains its beauty and charm. It serves as a picturesque landmark that adds to the overall charm of the area.

A beautiful and majestic mosque built in the water that appears floating. The surrounding area is serene and peaceful. Nice scenery, well maintained and clean. There is no shoes shelving. Places are very well labeled and signage. Men and women toilets are located on the left side. Women prayer areas are on the left, located at ground as well as upstairs. Opposite the mosque is a wide beautiful lagoon for leisure, recreation activities and picnic for the local residents and visitors.

I want others to know about this. I'm too overwhelmed and overexcited when after so long years this was announced to be reopened for free, only to get here with full disappointment. From official web Muzium Terengganu (refer maroon picture attached), it only stated it's free entrance until April 6, 2025, but it didn't even mention it's actually free entrance everyday EXCEPT ON FRIDAY qwq, 9AM to 5PM. If you visit on friday like I do, the gate is locked. 😓 And what's more, I'm totally disappointed with the building. Should be maintained well for heritage lor.. The building is already aging. And it's flooded with algae-sea (can see on the basement parking). 😱 Well, I know Bukit Puteri and this singular building is different "entity", but as heritage, should maintained both well. I knew, Terengganu maybe flooded before but still, as a common people, I can only hope 😅. I will come again 3+ years in future to see the improvement 👎🏼 Hoping for the better. 🙏🏼 Wish I can see the view from its top, not from the bottom as I did today.

Is this place permanently closed to the public? I always wanted to see this place especially because of its historical background and the local's legends but unfortunately ever since i learnt about its existence (which is also recently during the national's Covid 19 PKP) it has been closed down. Ive been to KT before but since I traveled with public transport, it was hard to go around the City from the budget hotel i stayed because taxis and local town public buses were hardly around unless youre near to the bus terminal (no taxi will stop if you hailed from the roadside). Hopefully during my next trip, the City already has the Grab service for tourists' easy access to many interesting places.

Bukit Puteri or Princess Hill, is located just a few steps opposite of Central Market (Pasar Payang). This 173 year-old 200m hill only came to known when the Sultan Baginda Omar turned it into a defensive fortress in 1831 during his reign period. To perform the function of a protective fortress, a few units of cannon and a bell was placed. The bell served as an ‘alarm’ whenever there are enemies were detected. It was also the residence for the Sultan during the early days of his ruling. Today stairs are properly built for people to climb to the top. Most of the cannon had taken back by the Siam during the period when they ruled Terengganu in 1843-1845. Remaining there are a flagpole, a few left over cannons, a bell and a lighthouse. The bell, however, is still performing its function but no more to alert the existence of enemies instead a breaking fast reminder during the fasting month. Best time to visit the fort in the morning or evening time when temperature is not too extreme. From the platform at the top, you can see fishing boat coming back home after a hard day. To the other side, you have a panoramic view of Kuala Terengganu.

Seafood restaurant
Warung Pok Nong in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia is a popular spot known for its deep-fried seafood served with sauce. Operating from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, this eatery offers a variety of fish, squid, and prawns coated in batter. It has gained attention after being featured on the TV show 'Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan Tv 3,' attracting many customers looking to savor the crispy seafood delights during the evening hours.
Spacious, plenty of tables&seats. You have to take a number before you find a table. They’ll call your number when it’s your turn, so no need to queue for so long. Price is reasonable with the portion given. Parking space is big. Friendly customer service.

A must visit place if you are around this area. Although this restaurant is well known, they still maintain their food qualities. Do not feel discouraged if you see a long queue because this place provides many tables and seats. Fast service. The staff will guide you to the table based on the number of pax you inform them. The hot items, battered fried menu especially seafood. I love how thin the batter is, and all my seafood tastes fresh. Affordable price.

Restaurant
Restoran Singgang Budu is a popular dining spot in Kuala Terengganu, known for serving local dishes and its signature dish, singgang. This unique dish is a rare find outside the state and is highly favored by locals. The restaurant offers a variety of delicious traditional village dishes that cater to the East Coast taste buds. While singgang is the highlight, there are also other appetizing options available.
Big, can fill lotsa ppl and they have a good system to speed up service when there's lotsa ppl. They have dishes that maybe difficult for ppl to find elsewhere. Singgang tulang, perut bakar. There is a live band entertainment during lunchtime. Very good vocals and served my kinda music ... Rock kapak. Serious... Macam suara Saleem. Fresh fish was served. Budu seemed homemade and delish. Quite a fair amount of parking. Seems the keropok lekor is quite popular . By the time we were there at 2 pm++, everything was gone... Planning to grab some day after tomorrow.

This place hits the spot with a spread of freshly prepared local dishes, perfect for a satisfying lunch. From succulent chicken and tender beef to fresh fish and a variety of seafood, there's something to tempt every palate. The veges are there - offering a good selection of side dishes to complete your meal. You'll find all the classic favorites here. However, be warned: this popular spot can get busy, especially during peak lunch hours. Parking is limited, so arriving early is highly recommended The queue and payment system could definitely be smoother – expect a bit of a wait during busy periods. Despite these minor inconveniences, the delicious food makes it worth the effort. If you're looking for a taste of genuine Malay cuisine, this is a must-try, just be prepared to plan your visit accordingly.

On February 2, 2025, my friend and I visited Terengganu and decided to have lunch at Mayang Mall. On our way, we noticed a large crowd at a nearby restaurant despite the light rain, which piqued our interest. The restaurant operated buffet-style, offering a variety of seafood, fresh vegetables, fried chicken, and other delicious dishes. It was self-service; we filled our plates with rice, vegetables, seafood, fish, chicken, and more. The restaurant was bustling with patrons. We were instructed to leave our plates on the table and take a photo of our selections to show at the counter for billing. The staff used these photos to calculate the total cost, and I was surprised when my meal amounted to over RM60, with a small serving of squid (sotong) alone costing RM30. I brought the squid to the counter and questioned the price. The staff explained that the photo made the portion appear larger than it was. After some discussion, they offered a RM5 discount, but I opted to return the squid instead. I suggested that the restaurant display price tags for transparency, allowing customers to be aware of the costs before selecting their food. Despite the pricing issue, the food and environment were enjoyable, though most dishes were served cold, with only the rice being hot. The live band created a pleasant atmosphere, and we appreciated the overall experience. However, implementing clearer pricing would enhance customer satisfaction.

Singgang Budu has many interesting food choices to grill, Singgang, goring and macan-macan, there are also ulam-ulam, hot fat lekor accompanied by live band singers. But the open area is very hot and there is no cooling ventilation. It is suggested to put mist water pipe nozzles on each of the big fans and a water wheel on the roof is even better. The temperature in the shop can be lowered. Recommended.

Taste wise is ok, the price also OK. If you can get hold of the wacking crowd on the weekend, bole la datang. As for me, maybe lambat lagi la nak revisit. When i said OK, it means boleh lah. Not that tasty or not that bad lah. The price also not that expensive, even though they were located in the heart of the city of Kuala Terengganu. Maybe sebab this is Ganu kot. When in Kuala Terengganu, trying the local specialty Nasi Dagang is a must. Among the numerous eateries offering this dish, Nasi Dagang Kak Pah in Batu Berok stands out for its delicious rendition of the traditional meal. This spot is highly recommended by locals and visitors alike for its flavorful rice and delectable gravy. The establishment also offers other popular local dishes such as keropok lekor.
This place can be buzzing with people especially during school holidays. Self-service system. Big portion of fish & gravy even for an order of 1 serving. Steamy soft fluffy rice with great spices from the gravy. Can always adjust the heat to your liking with the fresh chilies in the gravy. Easy parking in the area. And the beach is just a walk away.

A popular traditional eatery located in a busy part of the city, Batu Burok. The seating area is small, with about 18 seats. During normal working weekdays, it can be busy from the moment the place opens until about 9.30AM. The nasi dagang is good. The fish gravy has just the right amount of sweet and spice. The rice itself is the star. Heavier than normal rice, yet it isn't as sticky as glutinous rice. It is balanced by the gravy.

One of the best Nasi Dagang I ever had. My friend, a local here, suggested me this place. And I was glad we came here to taste local cuisine. We ate for 7 pax portion and total price was RM40 including beverages. The gravy was flavourful. Not spicy but for those who loves spicy, they put fresh chilli inside the gravy. The fish was fresh and delicious. The beverages were good, surprisingly. I like it and will come again next time.

Authentic Nasi Dagang, rice-wise but with a slightly different gravy than the original. Note that the original gravy was cooked slowly until the coconut milk turn into slightly oily without any addition of oil. But the gravy here looks and taste like the spices was sauteed in oil before adding the coconut milk. Overall the gravy taste great and complimented the steamed rice perfectly. Recommended.

Loooooved the gravy! (I asked for a non-spicy one, it was sweet and deeply savoury and I think it came with chicken) We paid 12 MYR for two dishes and a teh tarik. We came here on a Tuesday before 10 a.m. back in May 2023 and there was live music playing, the female singer was the best one we’ve heard in SE Asia so far and that’s why I probably have such positive memories about this place 😅

Superb. There are multiple sizing in glass if you order fruit juice. Almost every tropical fruits you can have here. Taste real fruit & the price is cheap. I ordered small & mid size, Rm2.50 & Rm3.50. If you happen to came here, kindly order nasi Minyak.. I recommend this menu.

Great. After 22 years today i come again to enjoy air buah gelas besar. Almost same taste as before with more menu. Laksa Terengganu is superb, laksam too and also get myself sotong celup tepong and keropok lekor. Price reasonable. Worth the money

Food- main attraction jus Gelas Besar .Can mix n match or add milk. Got laksa, laksam, nasi lemak. Car park- a bit challenge cause limited or park cross the busy road. Add- a very nice small chair that shape of fruit.

Good variety of fruit juice (not just your average joe) with all kind of size you can order. The best is their keropok lekor (fish crisp)

We ate mee kari, laksa penang, ICT, kuew teow, nasi pattaya - lame taste. Fruit drinks over sweet. Rotibakar forgot to make? damn.. Sorry..first & last

Came here for dinner. Had the laksam and nasi minyak. Both were decent. Also had the keropok lekor - that was really good. The fruit juice here is cheap but it’s diluted. I think they mix it with water.

Disappointing to say the least. Service was slow. Food was so so and the drinks... the supposedly fresh fruit juice was mixture of cordial and a bit of juice. Feel like drinking sugar water with flavoring. Sad

The best lempeng kelapa i ever had. Ketupat sotong was superb. Seaview was stunning. My regular place to stop everytime coming back to terrenganu or going back to KL. Highly recommend.

Friendly staffs and delicious food if you’re on the route 3. I’ve no idea what to order and they recommended ikan c-tepung & ketupat Sotong. Both are real good especially crispy fried fish with the sweet sauce. Cendol biasa looks so contented, different from KL, however the taste is just so-so. Will taste better if using Gula Melaka on my preference. — Visited July 2020 —

The restaurant open at 9am until 7pm. Famous menu is the coconut pancake (lempeng kelapa). They will serve the lempeng with curry dip. But you can ask for condensed milk (susu pekat) if you want. Placed near to the beach.

Lempeng or Coconut Pancake is deliciously served here. Priced at rm1 per pc, it's one of the most affordable food here. The serving of the lempeng itself is lightning fast but the ala cartè menu is a bit slow. Maybe went there almost the closing time is what truly caused the delay. Nevertheless the tried its Nasi Goreng Ayam and Nasi Goreng Daging Merah and both taste good at least to my taste bud. Their Squid Fritter however is one of tge best I've tried so far with priced at rm6 per plate. Situated at a very windy beach side in Rusila Terengganu, the place is very suitable to whom that is looking for a not-too-heavy food for evening snacks. Would recommend to friends for a meet up place too.

One of the most delicious traditional Terengganu cuisine I’ve had in my life. It makes me feels like the foods my grandmother cooked for me when I’m home afterschool. The lunch meals and the herbs are various. The chicken is cooked well done, the sambal is not too spicy, suitable for anti-spicy person. The omellete and the white rice are fluffy. This restaurant serves one of the best keropok lekor in Terengganu. The lempeng here is coconuty, the curry is nice and not spicy. The sirap bandung icecream here is very good, perfect complement for the lunch meal. Deep-fried fish is fresh, and suitable to eat during the tea time. One rare traditional Terengganu cuisine; which is “ketupat sotong” is being served here. You can view the South China Sea beside the restaurant, with Kapas Island on the right side of the horizon. The environment is windy especially during evening, and feels very tropical. Overall, five stars for traditional Terengganu cuisine, together with the tropical environment.

Coconut 🥥 shredded pancake is their signature dish. A must try. Unique local dish and taste very delicious. It has seating which customers can enjoy the windy beach. The beach scenery looks very beautiful at the back of restaurant. You can see Kapas Island from here clearly.

Loved the food here! They serve traditional Terengganu dishes. We tried the lempeng - really nice, thin and crispy. I love how it has fresh shredded coconut inside. It’s slightly sweet and served with a side of curry. What’s a must have here is also the ikan bakar - super fresh. Make sure you have it with the budu. The kerabu here is also good. It’s by the beach so you get a nice view while eating.

Sotong Pulut (squid fill with glutanous rice) and cooked with herbs just perfect for the afternoon tea. Strongly advicesable to try the Sata as well
