Restaurant
The Pepper Tree Restaurant and Bar is a great place to go for a delicious meal. The service is always friendly and attentive, making it a perfect spot to relax after a busy day. The food is excellent, with dishes that are both spicy and flavourful. The restaurant has an interesting atmosphere, complete with seating in the garden or on the terrace.
The restaurant had great reviews and I went in wanting to try the steak. Only after we sat down and ordered a drink did we realise that steak is available for dinner only. I then decided to order the Calamari. It was the best decision. I don't know how they fried it , however, it was done so well. And also the picked veggies tasted so good. The other option that seemed interesting was the beef tacos. Might try that another time. All the wait staff were courteous, and efficient. Even the little one. All the best

The most amazing restaurant, food & service. We stayed 3 nights in this gorgeous town & after the first night we had to keep coming back every night. All the staff are incredible but Peter really stands out, he makes you feel like your oldest best friend. We wish Western Australia had food & service at this level.

We enjoyed our dinner and the service from the staff is superb. The mussels and the chowder is a must try. Great atmosphere and outdoor sittings. The price of the food is reasonable. Would recommend dining here when in Coromadel.

We ordered the ribs, and they were incredibly tender with a savory BBQ sauce that was absolutely delightful. The oysters were fresh and flavorful—truly a treat! The calamari was soft, perfectly cooked, and delicious. The ambience stood out as the best among all the neighboring restaurants, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, a solid 7.5/10!

The restaurant has a beautiful beergarden under a truly impressive tree. We enjoyed excellent food (mussels, lamb and salmon). The local light beer and the espresso (coffee) was not so good though.
David K — Google review
The process for ordering your food and drinks is fantastic as you can order when you want them on a tablet. More restaurants should use this system. Food was delicious (both the natural and battered oysters were superb!!) and service was very quick and friendly. Will DEFINITELY be going there again.

Stopped for a late lunch on my way up the west road to Coromandel and out to Hahei. Ordered 1/2 kg of mussels, excited that they were from the area, and the fish and chips. The mussels were delicious, large, cooked perfectly, seasoned well, with a large lemon wedge and slice of fresh bread to dip in the sauce. Fish and chips were exquisite. Breading was crisp, fish was so soft and buttery it would fall apart, and chips were the perfect consistency. Also came with large lemon wedge and cup of tartar sauce. Tracy was my server, she was exceptional, kind, attentive, helpful. The outdoor seating was peaceful and spacious, I could seat myself wherever I liked.

These were the biggest mussels we've ever seen! And perfectly cooked in a creamy white wine broth with bread for dipping. We also ordered a serve of chips to dip in the broth. Our server was bright, friendly and knowledgeable --he seemed really proud of the locally produced mussels and knew a lot about the area.

UMU Restaurant and Cafe in Coromandel offers a spacious seating area both inside and out. The food is delicious, with standout dishes like dumplings and garlic butter mussels. The mussel chowder may be different from what you're used to, but it's worth trying. The service is prompt and friendly, making for an enjoyable dining experience. While the salads are filling and tasty, prices can be on the steep side compared to urban areas.
Everything was exceptional! Oysters were fresh, the green curry sauce with steamed mussels was so good, pizzas were thin and crispy and flavours exquisite. The salads were great too. Kids chicken tenders were really big and thick well worth the price! The only thing we wished would have been an extra piece of bread with the mussels!

We ate lunch at Unu Cafe and tried a few dishes to share. The pork and prawn dumplings were an absolute stand out dish. They were served in a coconut Thai flavour soup and extremely flavoursome. Delicious The fish with potatoes and salad was healthy and my daughter ate the burger which was yummy also. Would definitely recommend this cafe!

Came as a large group with 6 younger children. The staff were amazingly friendly and responsive. Tried a variety of food off the menu and all was well proportioned and nice. Food was so tasty and kids requested a repeat visit on the same trip. Excellent ability to order food from the table online. Thank you to the amazing team. Can highly recommend.

The best pizzas ever served. If visiting Coromandel do have atleast 1 of your meals here. The pizza crust was perfectly thin with decent amount of toppings as mentioned in the description. All in all the pizza was light to the stomach and 5 star in taste.

The local green lipped mussels served with a rich chillie and garlic sauce in a pot European style were beautifully cooked. Just right! The young staff were doing a great job too. Sitting out front under an umbrella shaded from the sun at a table with friends was nice. And I was even able to get a spot for my Indian motorcycle out front. A nice day out in Coromandel.

This Café has the best coffee i drank since i arrived at New Zealand! Highly recommend to visit this, as well as the Driving Creek Railway, which is just 5min away.

Wonderful cafe we stumbled upon. Ordered the classic beef burger - hands down best beef burger I’ve ever had!! Delicious crispy spiced potatoes on the side. Huge portion and just the most delicious fresh food. Amazing friendly service from staff. If you are visiting Coromandel, like us, you must stop here for a meal!

Seafood restaurant
MINOS MUSSEL KITCHEN is a hidden gem located near the Firth of Thames, making it a perfect stop after a long drive. The restaurant offers fresh and flavorful mussels, with options like steamed mussels with white wine and saffron or Thai curry mussels. Customers also rave about the delicious sashimi slides and Saganaki prawns. The ambiance is great, the staff are friendly, and the portions are generous.
Freshest mussels from the Firth of Thames, this restaurant was like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, a reward for anyone surviving the arduous 309 Road, or a last meal before going on it. The place was clean, service was prompt, and the prices fair. I had a 1kg pot of mussels, steamed with white wine and saffron. It was accompanied with chewy, flavourful sourdough, complementing very well with the rich mussel broth. Fish in a bag was a tasty, non-shellfish option for those wishing to dine in here.

Best seafood for miles!!! Mussels and oysters are delicious, but my favourite was the seafood chowder 🤤 Lovely staff and great relaxing location! (As you can see, Dad's a big fan! 😋)

Came here to get some lunch. I ordered the 1kg Thai Curry Mussle pot. This was excellent and was very tasty and fresh. There was a very generous amount of mussle within the pot and it came with a very tasty broth. The staff here were also very friendly and the atmosphere of the place was great. Overall I would recommend coming here.

Traveled to Coromandel from Auckland for my birthday yesterday and stopped by Minos Mussel Kitchen for lunch. We ordered the 1kg pot of steamed mussels with cream and white wine (delicious), sashimi slides (omg yum) and the Saganaki prawns (so nice!). Everything was fingerlicking good. If I had more space in my tummy I would have ordered the oysters too. Staff were great, ambiance was great. Would definitely dine here again.

One of those places you hope to discover 👍 Had the platter to share. Looked fantastic, tasted the same.. Was desperately sick upon arriving at hot water beach. Spent the next 2.5 hours in the bathroom. I remember thinking how clean and orderly the restaurant was. I hope it was something else

We drove to the restaurant, excited to try some seafood. It was closed, even though Google suggests open. We just saw other reviews from couple months back saying the same.

Service was outstanding 👍🏻 food was absolutely delicious. What a great spot. Value for money and portions were huge. MK platter for 4 could feed 6. Will definitely be back. I

I think the restaurant ist pretty new, staff was overwhelmed and at the same time standing around a lot. Mussels were really nice but grilled feta was just fried in pan or something. They need a better management and then this restaurant can be really good!

Weta Cafe is a bustling and vibrant eatery with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are attentive and friendly, even going the extra mile to offer treats to visiting dogs. The cafe offers ample seating, including a charming outdoor area. Visitors rave about the delicious food, generous portions, and excellent coffee. Dishes like eggs Benedict, cranola with fresh fruits, and pork belly Benedict receive high praise from patrons.
The food was phenomenal. I got the smashed avocado with salmon added. Was 100% worth it with great portions. All my favorite things on one plate. And to top it all off there was a fat orange fluffy cat lounging around. Loved it!

We'd just finished at the DCR and called into our "fav cafe". A table for 4 was quickly found and we ordered our lunch. It was a really busy Friday afternoon (3rd Jan) and even though the place was full, the staff were full of smiles. Understandably hot & flustered too, but so professional, friendly and can't be faulted. Great manager, chef and all staff. We look forward to our next visit. Happy NY team! PS Sorry that the photo shows only empty plates, we were famished and finished the food before I got the shot :(

Wow, the amazing cafes you find in small town NZ. The service here was efficient and friendly, the coffee excellent and food whether from the cabinet or over generous portions from the kitchen, was absolutely stunning. We ventured here 3 days out of 5 during our stay in Coromandel last week. Well done Weta.

Honestly! The best sandwich in Aotearoa. Super fresh, healthy and so many options. For around $10 NZD. Awesomeness value. Bucket list of Coromandel!

Admiral's Arms Hotel is a fantastic establishment that offers an exceptional dining experience. The restaurant provides a relaxed and casual atmosphere where patrons can enjoy delicious steaks and wine. The staff at Admiral's Arms are known for their warm and welcoming nature, ensuring that customers feel right at home. Additionally, the live music performances by local bands create a vibrant ambiance, often enticing people to hit the dance floor.
After a long drive on winding road my best friend and I stopped in to have a beer and stay the night in the rooms upstairs. We were met with a cold Waikato on tap and great service from the bar staff. The pool table was a center point of the nights activities as well as we were treated to a fireworks show readily available to view from the rooms upstairs. Awesome night all round would happily visit again

Good Old Pub with big bottles of beer.

This place is the best! I was looking to have a nice steak and glass (or two) of wine at a casual restaurant. Both, by the way, were delicious at Admiral’s Arms. But what really made it for me at this place was their friendly and hospitable staff. The sky opened up and started to pour rain before my 20 min walk back to my accommodations. I was offered a ride back to my accommodations by Marice, one of their servers. I am very grateful for such a lovely experience at Admiral’s Arms.

Good pub. Ok food, generous portions and reasonably priced. All the usual pub activities. Music, sports tv, tab, pokies, pool tables, garden bar. Bar service was quick. Has a lot to offer for a fun pub night out. Enjoyed our evening here.

Very best restaurant and location for dining in Coromandel, with it's spectacular views over the bay! Incredibly fresh and flavorful ingredients: try the most incredible local oysters and the chef's signature meal to offer your palate an explosion of delights. This restaurant just opened after 12 years: well worth the wait! Wonderful staff and hospitality

Had a great time here. Great music for the band, drinks reasonably priced, good facilities. Didn't eat here but the food we saw looked decent.

Food was delicious! and staff were very friendly. A little pricy but the meal is definitely worth it so don't let that turn you away. Has outdoor seating as well.
Lindsey/stephen R — Google review
Absolutely horrible food. It comes out fast because it ain't cooked properly. Poor portions, the rice on the butterchicken was too dry and I don't know about the bar but the restaurant is bad in all manners. Just simply don't go there, it's not worth it in any case.
