Sayulita

Sayulita is a village on Mexico’s Pacific coast backed by the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains. It’s known for beaches with strong surf, like the central Sayulita Beach. To the west, Los Muertos Beach is more sheltered, sandwiched between protective rocks. Galleries in Sayulita sell artworks by Huichol indigenous people. Southwest, the Marieta Islands have diverse wildlife such as humpback whales and dolphins.

Hidden gem! Best sunset in the Sayulita area! It's a bit of a walk to get there, not bad. Probably better to not be alone when coming back to the city, cause there are no lights on the streets " (between the forest) . There will be people there, but it's not packed with it.

It’s a tricky beach to get down to. Google maps was trying to take me out towards the highway and back around which would’ve taken over two hours to walk it, but I just walked from Playa Los muertos and was totally fine. The far right hand side of the beach was a clothing-optional beach so not the most kid friendly, but the left-hand side would be fine. There were some people selling drinks at this beach, but I didn’t see any restrooms.
Amanda L — Google review
Beautiful quiet beach. Highly recommend if you are staying in Sayulita and want to see the sunset. No vendors.

This is an Incredible adventure beach. They have a little bar out there with a few umbrellas and beach chairs. Very cinematic.

A hidden gem just an hour drive from Puerto Vallarta! This beautiful, uncrowded beach was a perfect spot. I loved it and ended up spending the entire day here. The waves are a bit big, which makes for some fun in the water!
Yevhenii B — Google review
Amazing beach. A little ways into the jungle - you should have a ranger or at least a dirt bike to get there. Not too trafficked and tons of space! Bring your own food and drinks, there are no vendors
Miranda W — Google review
Amazing beach, cool rock formations. RIght next, to the filming location for Bachelor in Paradise which Playa Escondida Resort. Amazing sunset views. The best in Sayulita.
Corey W — Google review
This is the best beach in the area in my opinion. Quiet, no vendors harassing you, and one little beach bar to serve you drinks. It's definitely worth the hike and there's a lot of cool wildlife to see here. The waves crest very close to the beach and it is a steeper beach, so be careful or you'll get tossed around pretty easily. There are also rocks in some places that the waves can hide so make sure you take a mental picture and assess where the rocks are before you go play in the waves.

Playa Sayulita is a bustling sandy stretch known for swimming and surfing. The southern part of the beach is popular, with the town's entrance and businesses located there, along with the best waves. Throughout the year, various events take place here, including surf tournaments. December is a busy season due to Christmas and New Year's, while January to May offers warmer weather with fewer crowds.
Excellent spring break destination a little too happing for me but had a wonderful time there ! You must get there early in the morning the beach gets crowded .

On my first eco tour with Vallarta Adventures, they ended off our jungle tour with a visit to Playa Sayulita, a colorful resort area with wide sandy beaches. Sadly to say, I think enjoyed my second tour better to the more remote area of Playa Clavellinas. This beach seemed made for tourists.
Graham T — Google review
A beautiful beach with great introductory waves for beginner surfing-however the amount of vendors on the beach makes it really hard to relax. You’re constantly bombarded by vendors selling anything and everything and its an all day affair of saying “no gracias” as long as you dare to sit in your chair or lay on your towel for your much deserved vacation.
David R — Google review
Beautiful beach with potential no denying that. Tends to overcrowded and beach not cleaned frequently. Dogs and horses are few to poop wherever they want, including dogs peeing next to you. Watch where you step. With a little more attention it could be more beautiful.
Jason M — Google review
Beautiful city beach! Had good waves for body boarding/surfing, but safe enough for families to swim.
Madeline A — Google review
Definitely a surfing beach, the waves were a bit too high to swim in. The water also isn't as clear. There were some very big rocks under water that highly recommend water shoes. Highly enjoyed the food vendors. There were a lot of people there but plenty of space for everyone.
Griselda G — Google review
Busy beach with many seaside restaurants and folks selling souvenirs. We enjoys a snack and drinks and watching surf for about about an hour. We enjoyed it, but that was about our max for saying know to the sellers. Good people watching, lots of activity. If you're looking for a relaxing beach, this isn't the one but it's lots of fun!

This beach is the central one and therefore very busy. Walk down towards the north for more seclusion. // NOTE: Be careful of the sun!! Everyone I’ve seen is burnt… it may not seem so hot but the UV rays are STRONG 🌞🌞🌞

La Rustica Sayulita is a lively restaurant with an inviting outdoor dining area and a vibrant bar that offers a variety of wood-fired pizzas, classic pasta dishes, and fresh salads. The owner, Rodrigo, who grew up in the picturesque coastal town of Sayulita, has created a welcoming atmosphere at his restaurant. Visitors may even spot him strolling barefoot around his Don Bonito Hotel or enjoying some Ferrero Rocher ice cream at one of his Wakika locations.
Magnificent dinner this evening! (Found out a lot of places are closed Tuesday evenings) ended up here and was delighted by the roasted Caesar salad and Pastor pizza. You just can’t beat a table along the street and taking in all of sweet Sayulita!

WOW! What an amazing evening here. Everyone was friendly, from the hostess to my server to the busboys. Great environment, very open layout. Great for people watching! Food was out of this world. I was brought complimentary bread which was yummy; it was moist and light, like a yellow cake. But not sweet! I started with the mejillones; I could only eat this for the rest of my life and be happy as clam. No complaints here. The white wine sauce was amazing, and the lightly toasted bread served as the perfect vehicle for the sauce and mussels. I got the garlic shrimps next, the flavor was great. I didn’t love how the shrimp was prepared; sliced in half with the shell still on. Made it awkward to peel. The potato puree was decadent. Didn’t care for the red garnish on top, the texture reminded me of seaweed but without any flavor. The chocolate lava cake was the perfect end to the meal. The ratio of ice cream to cake is very off, but it’s hard to be upset with presentation like that. Margarita was delicious too! Very well balanced. Eating here again for sure before I leave Sayulitas!

What a great place in the heart of Sayulita! Our waiter was Alex, and his level of service was impeccable. The pizzas and pastas were superb. The manager also assisted us with some food allergies in our big group, he went out of his way to help. What a great place! Highly recommend.
Coastal A — Google review
The food was fantastic, and the service was even better, making for an overall wonderful experience. Keep in mind, the atmosphere leans more toward a casual café style. If you’re dining in the evening, you might encounter some road noise. While it wasn’t overwhelming, it was noticeable for a short time.

Man, wow. That’s all I gotta say. Italian food in Sayulita…no chance it’s good right?? Wrong. I was so surprised. The food was delicious, seasoned perfectly. The pizza was great, sauce to cheese ratio was on point and crust was perfect. The La Trufa pasta was an absolute banger. And the calamari was one of the best I have ever had. It may be Italian American cuisine but it hit the spot. Go here if you need a break from local cuisine for a night. (Sorry for the half eaten pizza and pasta, we forgot to take a pic haha) Service was great!!

If you’re looking to spend a bit more, and get a bottle of wine, plus enjoy some Italian flavours La Rustica is a good choice. Travelling with my husband we had our fill of tacos after a couple days and wanted to change it up. He ordered a 50/50 pizza: half octopus, half Rustica. I ordered the tortellini which was rich and flavourful. + a bottle of wine
Tierney H — Google review
La Rustica was fantastic. They accommodated our party of 14. The food was excellent. Among the group we had everything from pizza to pasta to burgers and there weren’t any faults to be found. Our server was polite and prompt. The ambiance was fantastic. Modern but not austere or overdone. The music volume was appropriate as well. The atmosphere is great for large and small groups, as well as children. Don’t know if they have a kids menu as there weren’t any in our group.

Amazing spot! We got cold brew, which was strong but delicious. We also got the yellow mellow smoothie, which was very refreshing and tasty. To eat, we got the toast ahuevo and the panta rei açaí bowl. The bowl was fantastic and just what I wanted!

A tad slow service, even with few customers. I assume they put good care into their smoothies. The baja Sur smoothie was good, but was a tad watery. A bit expensive possibly. Do have wifi, if you can figure out the password. Plenty of places to sit and do people watching.

We stopped here for a breakfast smoothie after finding this place the night before. It’s on the Main Street and has a great atmosphere. Our waiter spoke English. We each had a natural, fresh-fruit smoothie. It was cold and refreshing.
Scot B — Google review
I paid €13 for an açaí and they’re asking me for tips for that? They served it in a cheap plastic container, and when I asked if that was normal, they said yes but it’s clearly not! They didn’t even bring it to me, I had to go pick it up myself. The portion was tiny, and honestly, it didn’t even taste good.

I love Organik! I first came for their açaí bowls and smoothies but I’ve tried so many things now and they’re all delicious. Super friendly staff that helped me buy their cold brew in bulk bottles because I need even more of it! I always enjoy and leave feeling healthy and happy!
Lily B — Google review
Some of the best coffee in Sayulita. The cold brew was strong yet not bitter—perfect. Also yummy açaí bowls. In fact the wife wanted to go back two more times during our week long trip. Free WiFi, great location, friendly staff. Definitely add this to your must visit while in town!

Delicious, fresh, healthy bowls and drinks which hit great on a hot sunny day in Sayulita. They have some great local products from their homemade sauces and locally grown tobacco and rolled cigarettes to purchase. The vibe and atmosphere is super chill and you can escape the heat with their beautiful shaded section in the back.

The only thing missing is AC. I'm a super picky health nut with my food and this place was perfect. The number of healthy food options here was remarkable. I didn't expect the level of customization of the smoothies. The poke bowls tasted amazing And you can add extra tuna for more protein. The location is great, away from too much of the craziness but just close enough to walk everywhere. Oh and that's not to mention the cozy atmosphere. It's just all outdoor, covered, so that makes it a little hot

Carricitos, also known as Playa Carricitos, is a stunning and secluded beach located in Sayulita. With its golden sands, lush greenery, and the iconic Cerro Mono in the distance, it offers a picturesque setting away from the hustle and bustle of town. The beach is characterized by its soft sands and breathtaking sunsets, making it a popular spot for visitors seeking natural beauty.
Nice beach that isn’t very crowded & about a 30 min walk from Sayulita centre. There are a few vendors and a clothes optional part if you’re into that

✨ Carricitos Beach Sayulita Tips - The currents can be strong so swim at your own risk. This is a surfing beach but non-surfers can also hang out at the vast shoreline. - Bring your own food and drink: there are no stores here so you need to bring EVERYTHING. On the way to Carricitos Beach Sayulita, stop by Camacho’s, a small supermarket with the cheapest beers and snacks! - Minimal to no shade on this beach: if you want to hang out here all afternoon without burning from the sun, bring an umbrella or a tent. - Dogs can roam unleashed: this is one of the beaches in Mexico where your dogs can run around without a leash! Just be careful if there are other dogs around and maintain your distance.

Beautiful beach, secluded, and wonderful if you want to get away from the crowds. It’s a little bit of a walk, so don’t do it in the wet season like we did!

You can either hike here (about 30 min) or take a golf cart (about 10 min) but either way is so worth going, beautiful, mostly empty beach. No vendors or food or drinks, so bring all you need to spend the day!
Angella V — Google review
This is our beach of choice when we visit Sayulita-great sunsets and nice & quiet mostly. **Four years later…..still amazing, clean, and everything we want for a quiet day on the beach. Be sure to bring everything you need!
Andrew J — Google review
This hidden little beach is a little bit of trek from Sayulita. Walk past the edge of town and follow the road around the corner of the bay. Stay to the left. Walk past the cemetery and then take a left when the path meets the beach. Walk up the road take your second right. Stay to the right and when you get to the top of the hill take a left. Go down the hill and around a corner and you will see the concrete entrance on the right hand side that says this way to the beach. Follow that down the sketchy and fairly steep pathway to the one of the best private beaches in Sayulita. Watch out for that rip current. My girlfriend and I saw a girl get carried away and had to help her off the rocks. This trek is definitely worth the time and effort to make the 20 to 30 minute walk from the end of the beach. I do not recommend walking there in sandals.

It's a little difficult to get in there, it'd be by car, the entrance is by a road and the beach is beautiful, u can camp there

Taco restaurant
El Itacate in Sayulita, Mexico is a must-visit restaurant that lives up to expectations. The food is incredible, with options like quesadillas stuffed with hibiscus flowers and shrimp or mahi mahi tacos. What sets this place apart is the assortment of fixings brought to the table after ordering, including various salsas, caramelized and raw onions, and fresh lime.
Some of the best food we had in Sayulita! The portion sizes are great and the prices fair! The Quesadilla Jamaica was one of the best vegetarian options, husband raved about the carnitas! Sauces were spicy but so good! Will be back to try the seafood tacos next! :)
Kendra Y — Google review
Nice place. Tacos were very large, but the sauces were tasteless, the meat was dry and it was hard to get any flavour at all. Was better when we took one tortilla off. Think that was adding to the dry-ness Not super impressed for the price. There is better.

One of the better places to eat. Good food and excellent waiters who knew how to manage the crowds waiting to be served. We enjoyed eating here and people watching. After we finished we walked to the ice cream VW van by the side of the road and had a choice of fabulous flavours.

While you’re walking around town, you’ll definitely pass this restaurant a few times and wonder if it’s worth the try. Let me tell you that it is! I love how the menu is largely placed outside, so you can check it out without even having to sit yet. The weather here is really nice so we opted to sit outside where it is more breezy. I got the mahi-mahi, arrechera, and the shrimp. Coming in really hungry I definitely left feeling really full because the tacos are pretty big. I really liked how they served their sauces in the wooden trays but beware the seedy looking one is extremely spicy. The workers are all really nice and helpful and the food came out relatively quickly ! I’d say this is one of the best taco spots as they excelled in all the varieties of meats and seafood. Also a paleta (popsicle / ice cream) truck in front for dessert post meal!
Stella H — Google review
It’s one of those hip places. No menu. Just look at their menu on the wall at the front of the store before sitting inside. We came in at 8pm one evening (they close at 9) and the younger male server looked like he didn’t want to serve us at all. We had to direct ourselves to a table after standing outside for 10 mins. It wasn’t busy at all. Staff has no customer service skills whatsoever. The lady at the bar making the toppings was yelling “I want to go home!” in Spanish thinking we don’t understand her. So unprofessional. Portions are large and I recommend the beef tacos HOWEVER do not order the tuna taco. It’s tasteless. Will not be coming back.
El P — Google review
This place knocked our socks off! PERIOD! 1st of all, we came here for the tacos because they are quite epic, but we were most surprised about how amazing the guacamole was + homemade chips. And we hadn't had really really good guacamole/chips since we had arrived in Mexico, so this was exactly what we wanted on ALL counts. However, the tacos were awesome + the melted cheese tortilla steak burrito! Our only regret is, we didn't come a second time before we left back home to Chicago because this place is cash only and we didn't have any more cash left and didn't want to hit the ATM up again. The 2nd surprise was the: Home Music! 🏠🎵 OMiGOD, yes please! We came for the food but stayed for the music. TRULY! We ended up sitting in the last table right before the bathrooms which was next to the kitchen and watching that 21yr old kid do his magic & have fun while cheffing was a highlight we would've missed if we sat outside. He heard us talking nonstop about the music while Shazaming each & every song; he informed us it was his playlist/genre. We witnessed that only a man who could cook that grand needs to have HIS music on which inspired him to create so well. It was like watching an artist, which is what both my boyfriend & I are! This entire place was such a different vibe right in Sayulita MX; it was exactly what we are looking for, but nothing what we expected from a highly rated taco joint. Since we spent 10 days in Mexico and we wanted to feel a bit of home, this was our jam. BONUS: Save room for dessert... the little lit-up open top mini-bus literally right out front has THE BEST ice-cream in Sayulita/San Pancho. I got the rocky road 3 days in a row, my #1 favorite flavor, and it was the best I've ever had! My boyfriend got different flavors every day we went.
Amy B — Google review
Oh man...this place is awesome! Had the Hongo, Cameron and Mahi tacos. Did NOT disappoint! Stop in, grab a table, order the jamaica mescalita and people watch while waiting for your food. Gorgeous sauce and toppings presentation!

Coffee shop
MISCELANEA SAYULITA is a hidden gem tucked away in a small alley, making it a bit of a challenge to find but well worth the search. This jungle-inspired cafe offers both indoor and outdoor seating with stylish decor and a relaxed atmosphere. While slightly pricier than other options in town, it's known for its artisanal twist on healthy breakfast and brunch classics like chilaquiles. The menu also features creative coffee options such as coconut brews.
Really great cold brew coffee, with oat milk. The hot flat white was also really good. Best so far in Mexico. Service is friendly and "cool". Plenty of outdoor seating, also indoor and outside upstairs. Tourist spot, for sure, and feel modern. Will come again for the coffee, for sure. Accepts card from $200 and up.

Amazing breakfast! Tucked away so we were tipped off about this adorable restaurant (we would have not noticed it otherwise). Beautifully designed café with a stunning courtyard – such a lovely spot for brekkie. The food was yummy and really well presented, but the service felt a bit all over the place. A few things were forgotten and there were some miscommunications. Also, the oat milk they use is not very enjoyable, and the green juice wasn’t great either – lots of pulp and bits left unfiltered. Still, it’s a nice spot overall and worth a visit for the food and the vibes.

Had this spot for breakfast, and it was super nice! I had the Sayulita bowl, and my spouse had the Chilaquiles - both delicious, no notes! There are lots of healthy options for food, interesting drink options, and a nice little terrace. Would definitely visit again!

Tierra Viva Restaurant y Bar is a popular spot in Sayulita, Mexico, known for its diverse menu and excellent service. Whether you're there to catch American Football on Sundays or looking for a quieter dinner during the week, this place has something for everyone. The Latin cuisine and seafood options are standout features, with dishes like aguachile de camaron and ceviche mixto stealing the show.
Pretty good chilaquiles! The naranjada was like 90% water so that was kinda lame. But food was yummy. Worth a visit. They have papaya on their fruit bowl which is great if you’re having digestion problems 😀😀

We had a great lunch today, really good fish and chicken tacos! Our server was awesome as well. My husband is gluten free and lactose free and there were many things on the menu he could eat, especially our tacos that were grilled and came on corn tortillas. I had a cherry kombucha from a local brewery and it was really good!

I'll preface this by saying that this restaurant in the states would be totally acceptable and lovely. The coconut shrimp was delicious, it's beautiful on the rooftop. Only thing I'd say is that appetizer and food came out at the same time and wasn't very warm.

Our go to spot!! The molcajete de mar was amazing per my husband who ate it both times we dined. I had catch of the day (mahi mahi) and chile relenjos. The service has been great and we always pop by for espresso martinis if we don’t eat. Love this place !!

This is our second time in the area and we have been here for a week, I am not exaggerating when I say it’s the best food we’ve had on the trip. We were full after dinner and still ordered two desserts. I’m planning to eat dinner here my last two days and am about to ask the server if they also do breakfast or lunch. Thank you for your time, have a gorgeous trip.

Been visiting this restaurant for years. Always has been consistant. We ate upstairs at around 8:30, service was very quick but relaxing. We shared a spinach salad, a spicy sushi roll, the arrachara and the tuna steak. All was very well prepared and nice presentations as well. Will definitely return.

Breakfast bowl is delightful! Will come again. As promised...we ate here again. After a fishing trip, we brought back a small tuna and Mahi Mahi. They prepared civiche with the tuna and 3 styles if grilled Mahi for our party. Everything was amazing and we ate like kings!

Had a latte with soy milk (but didn't order any food). Coffee was good, but had better in Sayulita.
