Chalong

Chalong Bay has a long stretch of white sandy beaches and clear blue water and is an ideal spot for swimming, fishing and other water sports. It is located between the beach resorts of Kata Noi and Kata Yai in Phuket, Thailand. Chalong is a beach that is very quiet and undeveloped, with only a few restaurants and hotels. The bay is relatively shallow and is good for snorkeling.

Nestled in the heart of Phuket, Chaithararam Temple, also known as Wat Chalong, is a stunning temple complex that dates back to the early 19th century. This sacred site is adorned with intricate Buddha paintings and shimmering golden statues, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens that invite tranquility. The temple holds significant historical importance for the local community, particularly due to its association with Luangpho Chaem—a revered monk known for his mastery in meditation and traditional medicine.
Wat Chalong is a beautiful and peaceful temple. Inside, you'll find stunning Buddha statues. Visitors can bring offerings and pray, making it a special experience. I loved the people and culture here. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. The temple's calm atmosphere makes it a perfect place to relax and learn about Thai culture. If you're in Phuket, add Wat Chalong to your list.

Thanks to the tour we arranged, we went to a magnificent historical artifact, there is workmanship and history everywhere, we saw that there was Buddha's tooth on the top floor, from there we could see the foundation more generally. It is an open template for worship. People come and buy flowers, leave their gifts, pray for this dollar and leave. Also, the parking lot is quite spacious and useful.

We took the Phuket city tour and this was one of the places to visit. It is a beautiful and peaceful temple. The main Chalong Temple is built on three floors and there are stunning Buddha statues on each floor. The terrace can also be accessed to enjoy a beautiful view of the temple park. Don’t be surprised when the quiet and austere atmosphere of the temple is interrupted by the loud crackling sound of fire crackers. At Wat Chalong, Phuket's largest Buddhist temple, visitors light these crackers in large clay ovens near the temple's sermon hall as a traditional act of gratitude. The practice stems from a belief in the spiritual power of the temple's former abbots - when prayers are answered, devotees celebrate by igniting strings of firecrackers, their sharp reports echoing across the temple grounds. There are also some shops and eateries across the temple grounds. I would recommend this place.

The serene temple offers a tranquil escape from the bustling world. Intricate carvings adorn the temple walls, showcasing the rich cultural heritage. Golden statues gleam within the sacred halls, inspiring a sense of peace and reverence. Visitors can wander through the peaceful gardens, enjoying the fragrant blossoms. The gentle chanting of monks creates a truly meditative atmosphere.

Wat Chalong is absolutely stunning—full of intricate detail and rich history. The buildings are beautifully maintained, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it a lovely place to walk around and take it all in. You can climb to the top of the main pagoda for views and to see relics. We heard the sound of firecrackers in the prayer house, which is part of the local ritual and added to the unique experience. It’s free to enter, but make sure to dress respectfully—shoulders and knees covered. The only downside was seeing some tourists treating it more like a photo op than a place of worship—doing silly poses with statues and shrines while locals were trying to pray. It’s important to be mindful and respectful in a sacred space. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, especially for a moment of calm and culture.

This is a pretty beautiful temple and one must go there as a sightseeing point of Phuket. It’s very easy to go here even from patong by your own two wheeler. They have ample amount of parking space and you will see some soor shops around which gave a very good rate, so you did not worry about things being very pricey Dubai from here. It’s very good place and with very vibrantsetting of colours on the temples and it has good vibes and a quiet place to be at.

The Big Buddha, officially known as "Phraphutthamingmongkhol-akenagakhiri Buddha," stands majestically at 45 meters tall atop Nakerd Mountain in Phuket. This stunning white marble statue is not only a significant religious site but also offers breathtaking panoramic views of the island, including Phuket Town and Chalong Bay. The journey to this iconic landmark is made easy with well-paved roads, despite some winding curves.
it is very beautiful place. I recommend for every tourist to travel this place. There is also tiger park and sweety elephanst there. There is hiking and motorcycle tours also. We are walking back inte the beautiful nature trees till tiger park. I recommend.

The drive up there is very engaging if you enjoy a 2 wheeler, and I would recommend to be careful going up and down the hill. Always wear your helmet!! The visiting is not possible currently as the site is closed for construction renovations. The views at the top are breathtaking, and there are also monkeys. For your safety, do not touch/feed the monkeys. They will attack you or try to steal your food if you allow them/you are not vigilant. There are free toilets and a bar with drinks, coconuts, and other drinks, and food. It's definitely worth visiting!
Valentin P — Google review
I will never forget the experience I had here. Although the visit started off as a regular one, with the area under renovation and most places closed, something extraordinary happened. A man approached a hanging stone/steel plate and began rubbing it, creating a mesmerizing, soothing sound that filled the air. After he left, we tried for ages to recreate that soul-touching sound, but we couldn’t. It was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. As for the place itself, it offers a stunning top view and is surrounded by playful monkeys. The Buddha area is vast and serene, but it’s in need of renovation and reopening soon to restore its charm.

The Big Buddha in Phuket is an impressive and serene landmark, offering breathtaking views and a sense of peace. The sheer size and craftsmanship of the statue are truly awe-inspiring. Unfortunately, during our visit, the main area was closed due to the recent accident, which was disappointing. However, we could still see the side of the statue, which gave us a glimpse of its grandeur. Despite the closure, the surrounding area was worth exploring, with a peaceful atmosphere and some nice photo opportunities. It’s a must-visit when fully accessible, but even now, it’s still a memorable experience. Hopefully, it reopens soon!
Christian S — Google review
It has very nice view, though we cannot go near the Big Buddha statue as it is closed for restoration but you can still get beautiful pictures and view from the up top. No crowds and ideal for people enjoying secluded places.
Tasvi S — Google review
As of March 2025, the Big Buddha was still closed but we were able to get a taxi to drop us off at the base of the Buddha and walk around. It was close enough to take some pictures and enjoyed the view of the city. There were some vendors there so you can get some drinks and snacks. The parking is free.
Som S — Google review
Place was closed (an had been for a while) when I was there. You can still see the massive Buddha statue from the car park & cafes and shops are open. You get a pretty nice view over Phuket's bays and beaches from the top. but the place was overcrowded with tourists and if it wasn't for fun motorbike ride up there, I wouldn't say it's worth a visit.
Kay ( — Google review
It's currently closed and fenced off due to last year's landslide but with no work going on. You can see the back side only from the car park. It's a very long drive up and you pass the poor badly treated elephants giving rides on the way up, which is very distressing. They still seem to be taking groups of tourists up to the Buddha though. I heard people complaining that they should have been warned it was shut. Good views.

If you're looking to dive into the vibrant spirit of Phuket, The Distillery Phuket - Home of Chalong Bay is a must-visit destination. This award-winning rum distillery offers an immersive experience where you can witness the fascinating process of rum production, from sugarcane pressing to fermentation and distillation. Made entirely from 100% natural Thai sugarcane grown without harmful chemicals, Chalong Bay's artisan rum stands out for its purity and quality.
We did the rum and gin drink making classes as well as the distillery tour. Air was a great teacher and even gave us an extra drink to sample at the end. The tour was informative and the patio area was very chill. We sampled everything they have. We have done quite a few distillery tours and this was the most alcohol included! Highly recommend you visit. Others said their food was great too. They also have a very cheap taco Tuesday.

It was amazing!!! I have attended a rum mixing class and a distillery tour. The hosts were so friendly. The cocktails were amazing!!!! The atmosphere was good. Not crowded by the time I visited at 14:00. Would go back most definitely!

I went to a distillery tour and tasting. for 590baht you simply cannot get any better deal. The staff were friendly, kind and knowledgeable and gave a great tour. The tasting session was also incredible. I got to try all of the varieties of rum, gin and vodka they make there. The venue itself is stunning and an absolute must for a date. The food was terrific as well. Outstanding flavours coupled with exquisite presentation. Get yourself down there and get a taste of real Phuket!

Wonderful cocktail making experience. Here their distillery makes Rum, Gin, Vodka which received so many awards around the world. We made three cocktails from their own Rum. We also tried their Gin based cocktail and their Vodka. All deserved those international awards! Highly recommended.

this place was great!! the place was so cute. i went there as apart of my birthday itinerary and it was well worth it. We did the mini vodka cocktail making class which included making 2 drinks, a tour, and taste testing roughly 10 rums. The drinks we made were refreshing. Teacher was also amazing! it’s a must visit !!

Our visit to The Distillery Phuket was nothing short of amazing! This place is a must-visit if you’re in Phuket, especially for those who love spirits and understanding what you are drinking. Since we had kids with us, we opted for the distillery tour instead of the cocktail tour. It was a fantastic choice—our children enjoyed delicious virgin mojitos while my partner and I indulged in regular mojitos on top of the tasting session of their awesome range of spirits. The drinks were incredibly refreshing, and the experience was both family-friendly and fun for adults. A special shoutout to Netty, our guide, who was absolutely phenomenal. She made the tour highly engaging and informative with her detailed explanations. And then there was Nicky, the bartender—his expertise was unmatched! He took the time to understand our preferences and made excellent recommendations. The gin, rum, and vodka here are all exceptional—smooth, unique, and of top-notch quality. Choosing what to bring home was probably the hardest part of the visit (our customs limit didn’t help!). We also had the pleasure of meeting Air and Fern, who were super friendly and added to the warm atmosphere of the place. If you’re visiting as a couple and don’t have kids with you, definitely go for the cocktail tour—it promises to be an absolute blast! Overall, The Distillery Phuket is a gem, and we can’t recommend it enough. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Fantastic Distillery Visit! Ray, Neti/Nety, and the entire staff provided a warm welcome and exceptional hospitality during our distillery visit! All staff spoke excellent English, making the experience even more enjoyable. They also served us refreshing mojito at the start. The Distillery Discovery Visit (1 hour) was informative and fun, and we loved the sampling session. Some of the staff were humorous too! You can walk in without booking, which is a bonus! Plus, they accepted card payments, and although the POS terminal was acting up, the team did their best to get it working so we could pay. Great customer service! We bought a bottle of rum and they made sure it is well wrapped for transporting it. Oh, and let's not forget the friendly cat and dog on site! Highly recommend this distillery for a great experience. Thanks, Ray, Neti/Nety, and team!

Definitely a place to visit while in phuket . With a huge variety of birds to see and learn about and a show to witness exotic birds doing fun stunts and acrobats it's a must visit and again don't buy tickets online or 3rd party counters, buy at the entry gate of the venue. There are no lines it's partially crowded . Apart from birds they do have a few other attractions like turtles, rabbits etc you can feed them at a charge . It's a 2 hour tour spot, but a Definitely go to place in phuket.

The bird park is a delightful place to visit, especially for families with children. While it’s not the largest bird park, it boasts a wide variety of birds to admire. The bird show is a definite highlight, so be sure to check the timings to catch it. One tip: don’t forget to apply mosquito repellent, as the area can have quite a few mosquitoes. Overall, a fun and engaging experience that kids will thoroughly enjoy!
Abhijeet स — Google review
The bird show is entertaining. The show is from 1030-1100. Otherwise there isn’t much going on. Many cages of the same birds. Lots of chickens. I would guess that this place is struggling to stay afloat. The animals could use cleaner water, some fans for guests. Lacking luster

Mor Mu Dong Restaurant is a hidden gem in east Phuket, offering a secluded and rustic dining experience surrounded by a mangrove swamp. Despite being difficult to locate, it has garnered attention from food enthusiasts and renowned writers like Andrew Zimmern. The restaurant's network of bamboo huts provides serene river views, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful meal.
I'm not a seafood person (I.e. it's never my first choice). I loved every single thing (7 dishes) that I ate here and would eat it again in a heartbeat. I can now say I love seafood if it's cooked the right way. Outstanding: octopus in ink (sweet, tender), deep fried small whole fish (felt like I was eating savory fried chicken), stir fried prawn and banana shoot. They have a shorter menu in English with pictures if you can't speak Thai. It is worth the drive.
Natalie B — Google review
8/4/25 tues A true hidden gem, a champion restaurant This is quite a “ shocking” place to me. I initially tot this is a restaurant, recommended by the hotel staff. It turns out to be the most dingy of all Thai restaurants, with spartan metal tables and aged plastic chairs. Nothing seems to be particularly delicious as you look thru the tattered menu, even when the food comes , it doesn’t not encourage your appetite as the presentation is just food on plastic plates. I changed my mind after I took the first bite, the place and the presentation just does not matter anymore. The spicy stuffed fish is something out of this world, it is not a fish at all! It is minced bouncy spicy fish meat, there is no bone in it at all! I do not know how they do it then it looks like a fish!??? I ate the whole thing, every bit of it. The deep fried pork with some leaves makes a good combination of meat and herbal crisps. The black squid looks horrid but taste so tender and delicious. Another big star is the crab meat rolls, soy skin wrap a big fat portion of crab meat, served with a sweet sauce. I recommend all who is in Phuket to give this place a try. Not kidding, this is one of the best in Thailand. A good meal I will remember for the rest of my life. 7 dishes plus drinks cost 1645 baht.

10/10/10! This place is an absolute gem for real, authentic Thai cuisine, especially if you’re craving the bold and flavorful southern style. The seafood here is incredibly fresh—practically straight from the ocean to your plate. Every dish bursts with rich spices and traditional flavors that transport you to the heart of southern Thailand. To top it off, they’ve earned a Michelin star, and it’s well-deserved! The attention to detail, quality ingredients, and impeccable presentation make this a must-visit. Perfect for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend!

This is a remarkable place for authentic Southern Thai food. From the tranquil setting to the friendly service and of course the delicious food. We saw this place from Mark Wiens and the food was everything as good as he mentioned. We came on a Sunday for lunch and even at 12:30, it was already packed. We had a variety of dishes that we've never had before. This is not your normal touristy Thai menu, but everything was delicious and we had a great experience exploring new dishes, strange vegetables and unknown tastes

The staff are amazing and the environment is great with awesome views. My boyfriend and I spent multiple evenings there and the food was delicious. If you are in Phuket I would definitely recommend this place. Sean made us feel welcome and was very knowledgeable about the area and gave great recommendations and set us up with a great scuba instructor which we appreciated. Pizzeria Agli Amici, previously located in Patong but now situated near Chalong pier, is a renowned pizza restaurant offering a quiet dining experience. The wood-fire oven pizzas are well-presented and surprisingly easy to digest, making it one of the best pizza spots in Phuket. Families with kids will appreciate the generous portions and wide variety of toppings available.
HUGE CHOICE OF PIZZAS! We have just eaten here for the second time in a week and will definitely be back again. I highly recommend the extra large pizza- perfect for two or three people to share - plus with this size you can select two pizza types and have half and half. I had the pizza Ivan on my half and I highly recommend it! The staff are friendly and very helpful. Everything is very clean and bright. The prices are reasonable.

The pizza is very tasty and very filling. The service is very good, but the restaurant does not have air conditioning and the environment is very hot. the fans do not allow for the heat in the restaurant. We ate very well but were completely sweaty. The pizzas are not cheap. They could invest in an air conditioner. It is worth mentioning that they do not accept cards and there is no warning that they only accept cash.
BOMBOM T — Google review
This was my first visit after reading some strong endorsements in social media. Food quality, serving temperature and speed of execution was top notch. It was an early dinner, so the restaurant was less than 50% occupied. We ordered a salad to share, a course of ravioli and one of their pizzas. For a restaurant that’s been operating since 2011 with all the glowing online reviews, I would expect that the management team to have a good handle on how Italian food courses should be paced. All our three courses arrived simultaneously! I was faced with the choice of eating my salad and watching flys get to my dishes before I did. That’s right, at ฿500 pp, no air conditioning or fly-free option. Would I recommend Pizzeria Agli Amici? Perhaps takeout as the food is truly tasty. I would also recommend that the restaurant invest in some signage notifying guests that no credit cards are accepted. It’s surprising in this price range.

I wanted to order Ravioli but ordered wrongly. So I ordered a pizza and it was amazing like the reviews. The best pizza I’ve had in Thailand / Phuket. If I’m ever in Chalong I will be back for the pizza! 🍕😆🥰 The smallest pizza is sufficient for 2 ladies! The pizzas were generally 250-380 baht. There were 3 sizes for the pizzas. The pizza menu was extensive! 👍🏼

I made a reservation by phone and spent time traveling to the restaurant, only to find out upon arrival that they don’t actually take reservations—even though the staff member on the phone accepted my booking. As a result, all tables were occupied, and there was no clear estimate of when one would become available. If they had simply told me over the phone that reservations weren’t possible, I would have chosen another place in advance. This was especially inconvenient since I was with my child and family. Additionally, when ordering drinks in the evening, I asked if there was anything sugar-free besides Coke, as I wanted to avoid caffeine at night. The response was: “No, drink Coke.” When I asked if I could buy a Sprite Zero from a nearby store, I was told to just get water instead. In the end, we decided to leave. The food may be good, but the service leaves much to be desired. Poor service. Will not come here anymore.

Have been recently. Visit this place for few years. Came to pizzeria and so we knew menu as well, asked right now exact pizza. After us another customers took menu and started to choose. And we waited, 10 min, 15 min, 20 min. Said to them about time, bcoz that customers received their order, but it made after us. And waiters continued to bring pizza for delivery, and we r waited still. Told to them 2 time, that we were in harry. They did nothing. Disgusting service, with violation of the queue order, bcoz waiters decided to serve tourists first, although it was not in the queue. Doesn’t matter old customer or new, but QUEUE is QUEUE!

Make sure to stop by for their barbecue ribs on Fridays—they’re mouthwateringly good—and don’t miss their Sunday roasts, which are an absolute treat. Happy Days truly lives up to its name! Highly recommended for anyone looking for delicious food and good vibes.

Happy Days is a Chalong Legend and favored by local expats for a good reason. Although best known for their mouth watering BBQ weekend nights, their pizzas are also awesome. Great taste with just the perfect amount of fillings will leave your taste buds in awe 😋 The place is overall very pleasant and staff is just great and super friendly. High recommended and will go again

Coldest beer and best Western food in Phuket!! The prices are VERY reasonable and the food is amazing. The beer is so cold, it makes you forget about the heat :)

Amazing food. We stumbled in on a Friday, when they have a rib special. Soooo good. Rest of food was good too and awesome service.

Heard it had the best spare ribs ever. Dubious. Won the day 10/10 crumble menu also. I’m in heaven.

Well, I have been here last 12 years ago, and not much has changed. That's a positive. You will find mostly a menu from Europe, Prepared as the food is there. If you like a brake in your food routine in Thailand, this I the spot! Unfortunately, Schnuppy has passed 😢

Big servings!! We went very early as to avoid other diners during covid 19. Food was excellent with big portions. Outdoor seating as in no A/C. Small parking space available and friendly staffs. However, it was too stuffy and humid to be sitting there for too long. Reasonable price too.

We loved Fatty’s! I had the TOURNEDOS, PEPPER SAUCE, MASHED POTATOES and my partner had the STROGANOFF WITH BEEF, SPATZLE. I ordered the tournedos (little steaks) with mushroom gravy instead of pepper gravy but it tasted the same as my partners pepper gravy. I ordered the tournedos medium well and they were still very raw in the center so if you want less pink order yours well done! The mashed potatoes were a little sweet but very good with the gravy. The ‘salad’ is steamed vegetables- carrots, peas, corn, cauliflower and broccoli. We recommend both dishes! And maybe some bug spray- the restaurant is indoor/outdoor. Also the cutest pregnant tortoise cat hangs out outside the restaurant area and I loved that. 🥺

The food is fantastic. Portion sizes are very good and the menu has a wide range of amazing dishes. Well worth a visit. :-) Can be a little difficult to find as Fatty's is not really visible from the road.

Ordered the sausage. The pic doesn't really show how large it was, but ill tell you, its big German size. Juicy and tasty. More than satisfied and very full, I had to get the rest for take away. Mash potatoes was awesome. Excited to try other dishes on my next trip.

Huge servings with such friendly price. Sausage looks like nothing much in the photo but it’s really good, so fluffy and juicy inside, and big enough for 2 persons. Everything tastes great. Oh their mushroom soup is so tasty 🤤 I will come againnnnn ❤️
