Sinaia

Sinaia is a town in central Romania’s Bucegi Mountains, surrounded by ski trails. Its 17th-century Sinaia Monastery was once a royal family residence. German neo-Renaissance Peleș Castle, now a museum, has Klimt frescoes and stained-glass windows. The smaller, neighboring Pelișor Castle has a half-timbered facade. Across the Prahova River, the George Enescu Memorial House is the former home of the Romanian musician.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the picturesque town of Sinaia, Romania, Peleș Castle is a stunning Neo-Renaissance residence that once served as the summer retreat for Romanian royalty. Built between 1875 and 1883 by King Carol I, this architectural masterpiece boasts a captivating blend of styles, featuring German Neo-Renaissance exteriors and Italian Renaissance interiors adorned with Baroque, Rococo, Turkish, and Hispanic-Moorish elements.
The interior is wonderfully thought out and decorated. There are a lot of details to this castle that definitely should not be missed. We went in January and the entire place was covered with a blanket of snow. What a picture of site from the exterior. I wish I had more time to explore here but we were on a tour so time was naturally limited but 110% recommended.
Hetal P — Google review
We purchased tickets on site in the afternoon after what we understood was past the prime time to visit. There were several tours going at the time and the castle is definitely worth visiting the ground and first floor. Very well maintained with incredible woodworking.
Happy O — Google review
One of the most beautiful castles in Europe! Unfortnately there was a restoration work going on when I visited but it is understandable and necessary for the future. We had a 3rd party guided tour through the castle. It can get super busy and the actual entrance to the castle can be a bit better organized. My favorite part of the castle was the amoury room, that collection was quite impressive. Also very unfortunate is the toilets closed around 4:20 pm when the castle closes at 5 pm, quite a bummer.
Josh B — Google review
A beautiful Romanian castle, filled with secret rooms, armory collections, and lavish decorations. We visited during winter, and the snow added to the stunning atmosphere. However, restoration work was underway, and there were some scaffolding and repair structures. Still, it's a true Romanian landmark. There are also nearby cafes where you can enjoy a hot beverage and take in the view.
ViviZ — Google review
One of the most beautifully decorated and extravagant palaces I have visited. Features many different interior architectural styles ( German, Italian, Turkish, Flemish , Neo renaissance, French Louis XIV etc ) that I find more interesting and rich than something like Versailles, for example. Definitely recommend buying the full two level tour because each room is so different and full of gorgeous details that it doesn't get old. Beautiful palace that's nestled in the beautiful Transylvanian mountains and forests. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) the facades are under maintenance work right now so you can't enjoy the full beauty of it. I highly recommend visiting.
Alfred L — Google review
We went there on a sunday at 10.00 am and it was a huge queue, we spent about one hour and a half to get in, but when we exited the castle, there were only a few persons waiting to enter, so I’d recommend going after lunch. The outside of the castle is covered, as it’s being renovated, but one can still visit the ground floor and first floor, which are beautiful. As far as I understand, the second floor will continue to be closed for the public, because of the weak wood structure of the building. After visiting, you can have a great coffe and cake at the coffee shop nearby, facing the castle.
Diana D — Google review
I could probably bet you that you haven't seen anything like this before. When you get inside you will be stunned. Every corner, every place, every bit of that place is intricately decorated. It's so amazing, you don't know what to look at first. And the details. Sadly (for us, but very good for the castle and future tourists) the castle was undergoing renovations on the outside so we didn't get to see its fully glory, but even so, the inside will leave you speechless
K W — Google review
Its under renovations now so cant go in to give review. But the outside view and layout of gardens is definitely more impressive than Bran castle. And the city of Sinaia has more historic monuments per capita than anywhere which absolutely add charm to this mountainous city

Sinaia Monastery, also known as The Carpathians Cathedral, is a revered complex with origins dating back to the 15th century. It is a significant landmark in Sinaia, a popular tourist destination known for its stunning royal residences and iconic monuments. The monastery, the first construction in Sinaia, reflects the town's historical identity and houses valuable religious artifacts and an impressive collection of icons.
Gorgeous monastery, humbling to go inside, even more so during mass 😶 nevertheless absolutely gorgeous with a vast history behind. While visiting don't miss the small old church and the crypt!
Vlad V — Google review
Nice small monastery just between the Pelesh castle and Sinaia park. Has two little churches with nice zography/church art. In partial restoration outside.
Marin K — Google review
Beautiful place. Historical architecture. You can walk around - plenty of beautiful flowers. Very serene. Entry is free.
Thanath G — Google review
It's a beautiful historical place to explore. The whole ground is well maintained and lovely! It's also attached to a nice garden and the walking path to the town centre. Popular with the locals and families for prayers 🙏
PH P — Google review
If you are in Sinaia you should visit this church full of good energy, amazing paintings and history!
Rares R — Google review
Ancient old manastiry. Parking nearby.
Rumyana S — Google review
The monastery was built in the period 1690-1695. It sits in the middle of the city, because the city was built around it. It has 2 yards with a church in each one from a different epoch. It has been named by the biblical mountain Sinai. The monastery keeps the first ever translated in Romanian language Bible.

A beautiful sacred place, to visit, to meditate, to find a few minute of peace of mind. The sacred place where the Romanian Royal Family used to come to pray

The Casino of Sinaia, originally built as a casino but now serving as a congress center, is an architectural gem and cultural landmark in the Dimitrie Ghica Park. Constructed in just one year from 1912 to 1913 at the request of King Carol, it was inspired by the opulence of Monte Carlo. The casino has historical significance, with many legends surrounding its past as a place where fortunes were made and lost.
The place is simply stunning with its controversial history and beauty. The ladies working there were simply amazing and the tour guide was an absolute delight, very witty and pleasant. Would definitely recommend, don't miss the art gallery as well!
Vlad V — Google review
The tour presents you only 4-5 rooms: a theatre and 3 big and nice ball rooms. Even though the decor is impressive, the rooms are cold and empty. It's a 3 star, but gave 4 only because the tour is quick, cheap and the tour guide was pretty cool as well.
Alex P — Google review
A beautiful building with a very interesting history. I recommend taking a guided tour to learn more. A special thank you to the wonderful tour guide, Ingrid (I hope I spelled the name correctly) who took extra time and explained the information to us in English. Fantastic!! ☺️🙏
Luda B — Google review
Great experience with a lot of information from the guide. She made the tour fabulous as she told us a lot of the stories from the days when the casino was open. Highly recommend!
Laura — Google review
It's worth taking a guided tour for a small fee (30 lei/person), not only for the building itself, but also for the information you receive from the very knowledgeable and professional guide.
Zoltán M — Google review
If you get the chance to visit this casino please do! Sometimes it holds events or it's rented for weddings, baptisms etc.. You can check the availability online prior to your visit. You can also find here a small cafe and a little art gallery that displays a few paintings. The guide is included in the 20 lei fee and tells you a few interesting facts about the place. In front of the casino there's a nice little park.
Irina L — Google review
A very nice and interesting building, full of history and well known (especially in the past) by important people from different countries. The guide is very important, I mean more than 50 percent for sure, because it"s not an interactive place...maybe this they should improve. (For example, I would play some old music in the theatre room to introduce people in the atmosphere)
Maria C — Google review
I really loved this place, the entrance fee is 15 ron for adults and 10 for students. There is a guide that you go around with and tells about the history of this place, she is very nice and professional. You can take a lot of pictures and it is okay, compared to other places in ROMANIA. Definitely worth a visit, however it is kind of cold inside so take some warm clothes.

Dimitrie Ghica Park is a lush retreat that invites both locals and travelers to bask in the tranquility of nature. Nestled within this picturesque landscape is the iconic Sinaia Casino, an architectural marvel commissioned by King Carol in 1913. This stunning Art Nouveau structure has transitioned from a vibrant gambling hub to a sophisticated conference center, infusing the park with its regal history.
Beautiful small park/garden surrounded by castle-designed buildings
Marin K — Google review
Sinaia is full with touristic objectives and Dimitrie Ghica's park is one of them, a great place to take a break from a wonderful walk through the city!
George K — Google review
Simply a natural park accommodates families especially with kids. The park is well maintained and equipped with kids areas and plays. A fountain in the middle with a nice tranquil atmosphere. Breath taking.
Omar B — Google review
Small but very beautiful! It seems that the king has a good architect of garden parks.
Mihai P — Google review
A central park in Sinaia city. A beautiful view and a place to relax while staying here. Autumn colors won't disappoint the watcher eyes 🍁
Cristian S — Google review
It's a nice park overall! This park has nice views, a lot of green areas filled with beautiful trees. Plenty of benches that you can relax on and admire the views. There's some playgrounds that kids could come visit. A well placed fountain near the entrance. You can visit the Casino of Sinaia through it. It even has a desert shop in it.
Vlad Ț — Google review
Very nice and quiet park, the kids can play they have free slide and swing, and you can find for 15lei~3€ special slide with hot air, and jumping trampoline the kids love it but you have to pay 15lei~3€/5 minutes). It is 7 min away from train station. There are squirrel also. Very good
Bogdan V — Google review
Clean, relaxing, and well kept park. For the kids, there is a big bouncy slide, trampolines, and a carousel as well as a playground in the park. Bring your own water thought since I paid 6 Ron for a small bottle at a small kiosk nearby. The same bottle is half that at the supermarket. Our 4 year old had lots of fun though so we will be visiting here daily during our stay in Sinaia.

Historic Sites
The George Enescu Memorial Museum is a significant historical site in Sinaia, Romania. It was the former residence of the renowned Romanian composer, George Enescu. Built between 1923 and 1926, the villa served as a retreat for Enescu to find solace from modern life. The musician spent much of his leisure time here until 1946 when he donated the mansion to the Romanian state before leaving the country.
The museum is devoted to the greatest romanian composer, George Enescu. You can glimpse into his past and get to see where he lived and performed for a part of his life. Entrance is quite cheap and it's well worth to make a stop.
Dan M — Google review
Interesting story with audio guide. The ladies are very nice and also provide some additional information. The tour was short. If you're in Sinaia, it can be worth a visit for art lovers. Every 26th of the month is free entrance.
Magdalena Ć — Google review
A must when visiting Sinaia. The host is knowledgeable and kind. I felt like I belonged to the family.
Stela D — Google review
You are ask to pay full price tickets, but ,SOORRY, half of the " museum" is in the conservative state. I wonder for how long was already in this stage. I don't want to comment about this. Not 🚫 worth to visit. My opinion.
Cristian D — Google review
Not sure if it was because it was a Sunday just before closing but the tour seemed very abbreviated. And the piano as of this moment (May 2023) was away for conservation. But an interesting house and some nice items. Suggest reading up on Enescu first as you won't learn a lot here.
Byron F — Google review
Please be aware that the last tour starts at 4:30pm. A minute after and they close shop and nobody is allowed inside the memorial house. However, what I know about the memorial house is that it belonged to the greatest Romanian musical composer of all times who built it for three years from 1923 and 1926 and named it Luminis which means clearing in Romanian. In 1947, since he had already been living in Paris at the time, he donated the castle to the Romanian state. His statue from outside the building is done by Ion Irimescu sculptor from Fălticeni.
Alina T — Google review
Unfortunately it was closes when we arrived. But we could see from outside how beautiful old building it is

Restaurant
When I find myself in the charming town of Sinaia, one spot that never fails to impress is Taverna Sârbului. This delightful eatery offers a taste of traditional Romanian cuisine in a cozy and rustic setting. The menu features beloved local dishes like the hearty bean soup with smoked pork, often served in bread—a true mountain tradition!
Yummy food, tasty and balanced. Nice staff, fast service, great view and location. The dessert are really something else...lovely!
Georgiana D — Google review
Well known location in town in Sinaia. Food basic in its nature, but well executed. Nice atmosphere, a clean and neat place.
Florin S — Google review
Wonderful service and atmosphere. We cam here after visiting Peles castle. We sampled all the Serbian specials. The Ciorba was tasty and especially enjoyed the Pleshkevitsa.
Ed N — Google review
We are visiting the location oftenly for the last 12 years. The food is out of this world and at the same time different than what you find in other places. The services are wonderful and they make you feel like you are part pf the family. If you become a regular client you even receive benefits which only the constant visitors know about. I recommend with open heart to visit the place and say hello to the kind waitress that help out all the time.
Dragos G — Google review
I took my mum to Taverna Sarbului on Valentine’s Day. We chose this restaurant as she came here few years back and she was praising the food, therefore we were looking forward to our dinner. Unfortunately, the quality of food was not as it used to be. Most of what we ate was tasteless and my food was lukewarm. We left disappointed without even having dessert. Two main dishes with two and a couple of cocktails 350 RON. Very pricey for what they offer. Be aware.
Anca T — Google review
The bean and smoked pork soup is fantastic! Also the lamb sausages are delicious. The service is helpful, friendly and efficient.

The management will not permit you acces with your pet (dog), but instead people are allowed to vape which is much more unpleasant.

Breakfast restaurant
Bistro&Pension 'La Teleferic' is a cozy seven-room bed-and-breakfast with a restaurant that offers delicious homemade food. The small, non-smoking restaurant has a homey atmosphere and is adorned with plants and flowers during the summer. The menu changes seasonally, featuring a variety of dishes including the house-made zacusca, a Romanian vegetable spread. Guests praise the establishment for its excellent hospitality, refined ambiance, and delectable cuisine.
We Just stopped accidentally at this place for Lunch and were totally surprised positively!! Amazing, fresh, healthy and YUMMY food prepared with Love and a Lot of Details (also quite Some vegan food) and everything homemade! Inside also very nice Ambiente and the staff ist very attentive, Friendly and big hearted... Absolute recommendation!
Sebastian B — Google review
Delicious healthy food, amazing vegetarian choices and really nice service! I was desperate for a restaurant with vegetarians choices and healthy option after sending the last two weeks eating fries and polenta in Romania. Such a relief to find 'La Teleferic'! Everything was perfect, I highly recommend this place :)
Julie E — Google review
Amazing experience. The dishes were all amazing, made with so much caring and high quality ingredients that you can tell they are refined. The service was perfect and the landlady was lovely. The place is very personalized and warm. I totally recommend it, in particular the ribs and the gaufre (but the best thing would be to try everything!). Thank you.
Elisa P — Google review
This place is a bit hidden, hard to find, the menu is limited but the food tastes good. If you want to eat something out of the ordinary they have it, they try to stand out from the crowd by being hidden and different . I would give it 4.5 stars because of uniques , the sandwiches are really good and reasonably priced
Tiberiu I — Google review
Eclectic place, with a cool vibe and excellent view. Good value for money. The food was fresh and homemade. The staff made us feel welcome. Would definitely visit again when in Sinaia.
Oana D — Google review
Great place to eat in Sinaia. Portions are a bit on a larger size, so be careful with your order, but food is exceptionally good ) Our only regret, we discovered this place too late. We definitely would go there again! The owner of the place is a very nice lady as well. Music choice was very good too.
Nikolai O — Google review
I am glad I discovered this place. It' s a family run business and the owners are very nice and attentive. It is more suited for a budget type getaway, if you are looking for pampering and 4 stars conditions, I would suggest to look for something else. If you want a close location to the cable car and a little bit away from the crowded area of Sinaia, if you are going to spend your time mostly outdoors, hiking or skiing, this is the place for you. There is a good complimentary breakfast, served outside on the beautiful little terrace full of flowers or inside the bistro.
Andreea L — Google review
4.9/5 excellent place. A hidden gem. Just a heads up they're reservation only and they charge you a deposit in advance for your seat in case you don't show up or cancel without telling them. But let me tell you, this restaurant is a michelin star candidate; every dish is superb! And the ambiance and service is fantastic. They make every dish from scratch. We had the fondue, marinated chicken, onion soup, duck breast, and pumpkin soup and each item was fantastic. The duck and chicken was soo tender and of high quality meat. It was soo good. The onion soup and pumpkin soup was superb too. It was pricey but worth it. The owners are su h awesome ppl too. Highly recommend!

Restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque town of Sinaia, Forest is a delightful fine dining restaurant that promises an unforgettable culinary experience. This charming eatery, located within a boutique hotel and surrounded by lush trees, offers a cozy ambiance perfect for any occasion. The menu features an impressive array of dishes, from hearty pork ribs and duck breast to local river fish and vibrant salads. Guests can also explore the wine cellar with the knowledgeable sommelier before diving into their meal.
Certain dishes have been better than they are now, others have kept their tastiness. All soups and sour soups are very flavoury. Do not skip desert and try mango pancakes, they are heavenly! The restaurant design is very foresty, very cosy, major points for building it to incorporate the forest, not cut it. They have the best breakfast ever - pleasing both for the palate and the eye! There used to be rabbits running beneath and through the restaurant which was major cuteness, maybe you could bring this back soon. The service is very good! The prices are high but you know what you pay for. Do enjoy!
Livia V — Google review
We went there with the kids after a tiring trail walk as the place was highly recommended as being kids friendly. The food was tasty, can't complain about that, the kids plates were cute and the portions appropriate but the prices.... the most expensive lunch we had in Sinaia. An orange / lemon fresh was 30 Ron,a small refreshing beverage was 15, salmon fillet with zucchini was 115, a beef salad was 90 and the pasta with mozzarella and schnitzel with fries were each 50 ron. Women's bathroom is very small and weirdly arranged so it's difficult to open the door when you're inside. They have tables outside as well, arranged nicely and a small play area.
Corina L — Google review
The location is nice, especially the garden, but the kids playground is overrated in their description, the toys are not clean and broken. My 4 year old had nothing to play with there. But the food is good,I recommend the ribs! But the prices are too high compared with the food quality. Overall, it was ok for a over time only. We don't plan to go back there.
Daria V — Google review
Terrible food and very expensive (more expensive than a michelin restaurant in the heart of Barcelona!) , we had two different meals and waited a long time to be served, although there were no other clients eating: risotto with mushrooms and duck leg with cabbage and all the way back home had to stop in gas stations because of cramps and very bad stomach problems. Good we didn’t end up in the hospital.. For such enormous prices the food should be excellent.. if at least be mediocre but NOT dangerous! Also the waiter was rude, aggresive and very weird! Shame on you, FOREST restaurant!
Roxana F — Google review
The restaurant is fancy an it is specialy designed place that looks like a foerst/jungle camp with semi priavte dining zones. The menu has a lot of variety of food but the prices depends on what you order but are a bit expensive for that area. We had two dinners at this restaurant and the food from the first dinner was good, nothing special, but at the second dinner the ribs were cold. The desert instead are very good!
Alex V — Google review
First is the design - tables at different levels, partitions and decorations, more privacy then in regular restaurant. Next is 115 page menu - from rare delicatecy to very interesting, yet affordable, items. Service quality - it's almost like having private waiter.
Misha M — Google review
I will come back with a proper review, I had to leave really quick but will give it a proper chance next time as I have never seen in my life a more complex menu than these guys did. I’m a big food fan but I find it quite sneaky to not have a wine menu and have those prices. Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen prices as absurd on their wine list, you should repair that, friendly advice.
Vlad V — Google review
It's an intresting restaurant, with a nice location and looks like a mix between modern and local architectural style. They have a good offert for different taste. We get soup of wild pig, duck with cabbage and few others. The food was ok, and services good as well.

Nestled conveniently near the entrance of Peles Castle, Carol Gastro Bierhaus is a delightful dining spot that perfectly blends a Bavarian ambiance with mouthwatering cuisine. This restaurant stands out as one of the finest in the Prahova Valley, offering an array of traditional dishes like pork knuckle with sauerkraut, Wiener schnitzel, and German specialties such as bratwurst served with crispy fries and pretzels accompanied by mustard.
We visited Peles Castle and decided to eat at a nearby restaurant. Although we didn’t know what to expect, the food was great! The prices were surprisingly reasonable, especially for a place so close to the castle. The papanasi were fantastic, definitely a must-try! The waiter was very professional. I recommend it for a delicious meal after exploring the castle.

Great food, good music, great location, not overpriced and the only thing is that the salt was hard as a rock and we had to borrow another salt from a free table and the waiters just..stared. also the gulas was supposed to be more creamy not soup liquid
Diana R — Google review
We were worried it was a tourist trap because it's super close to the castles but thankfully we were wrong! The food was really good, especially the pumpkin soup left us in awe! The staff was pleasant and the top floor has a nice view of the castles.

Good food and there are a lot of options. The prices are dicent taking into account the fact that is located near Peles castle. We did not made a reservation and we were a 9 persons group, but if you go here durring summer and autumn weekends, you might need one. Bonus points for having the menu in Romanian, English and German

The only place around which serves both coffee / desserts and also meals. We stopped by because we were a large group and some of us only wanted something to drink, while others also wanted to eat something, and the other places told us it wasn't possible. They have a heated outdoor seating area and very good food and drinks, for decent prices. The portions are quite filling and the staff was extremely nice.

A European restaurant located near Peles Castle. It is definitely a great option to try in the area. The place is very cozy as it has bright windows & beautifully arranged. It has indoors & outdoors to choose from. As for the foods, they taste good, but overall it can still be improved.

Low quality food, very hyped by reviews but the reality is that this place is just average at most. We ordered basic dishes and they failed, meat was cold , plating was done by the man who also installed the windows. Kudos for the drinks, they managed not to ruin them. When we told the waiter that our food was bad, he turned around and left . A lot of people eating there so i can say the atmosphere was good. Not gonna do this again!
