Market
Coffee shop
Howth Market is a charming outdoor weekend market located in the seaside town of Howth. It offers a delightful array of locally made foods, organic produce, artisanal goods, and souvenirs. The market features over 25 stalls that come to life on weekends, attracting both locals and visitors. Conveniently situated near the DART station, it's an ideal spot for leisurely browsing before embarking on a cliff walk or visiting the pier.
Cute little market, easy to park, you can walk around the city and harbor as it is all walking distance, there is some seatings available if you want to seat and etc or whatever.

Good but small in size.. the area is nice to walk by the sea.. you need a reservation for restaurants in the area during weekends

My husband and I love this place! They have the best soup and the best calamari ever at Tram Cafe!!! Try it, it's amazing. The churros they have there are good, the pancake with chocolate is also good, and the hot dog is simple but tasty. The other stalls are indifferent.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Howth Castle Estate, located just south of Howth Village, is a historic property that has been in the care of the St Lawrence family since 1177. The current castle dates back to around the 14th century and is surrounded by charming grounds with beautiful gardens, particularly stunning in early summer when azaleas and rhododendrons are in bloom. The estate offers public tours and cooking classes, allowing visitors to explore its extensive garden and grounds.
So beautiful and picturesque. I loved walking around the grounds on a nice sunny day. Really transports you to a different world honestly.
Sumayah S — Google review
A charming location to visit. It has good parking and the castle grounds are large. I was able to photograph it from all angles and its in great condition. Well worth a visit but the interior can't be accessed as its private, cheers
Michael G — Google review
Took a guided architecture tour for Heritage week. The castle grounds are very beautiful, with well kept gardens and interesting stonework. The inside of the castle is very ornate with lots of pretty decorative plaster work and paintings, although most of the furniture and decorations are missing. The architectural history of the sight is very interesting and is reflected in the stone work and plaster work inside. Great work has been done on the restoration and I look forward to its opening to the public.
Andrew C — Google review
The transportation museum was closed when we visited but the grounds were beautiful. We were the only people around so we were able to take a lot of pictures and explore the outside of the castle.
Jordan H — Google review
This is a lovely place to walk although on my visit it was closed. The surrounding area is very pretty. There is not much information displayed about its history and I was disappointed that there was not much to see. However Howth is well worth the visit

Ancient Ruins
St. Mary's Abbey, located in Howth, Ireland, is a significant historical site dating back to the 12th century. Originally established by King Sitric of Ireland, the abbey has undergone several modifications over the years. The ruins of this medieval monastery offer visitors a serene and captivating experience with its impressive stone walls and arches. Perched on the Hill of Howth near the harbor, St.
I noticed these ruins poking out behind buildings, so I headed off to find them. The ruins are peaceful and have a liminal feeling to them. There are lovely views over the harbour. The Abbey is not accessible to wheelchair users as there are steps down. The pathways are, also, uneven. There is a gate at the top, which is quite hard to open. I thought it was locked at first, but it just requires a bit of a shove. It is free to enter. There are no toilets.
Shelley C — Google review
A beautiful abbey in stunning surroundings with fantastic sea views. Parking is on the top road with nice steps leading down to the grounds, you can explore the grounds but on the day of my visit the access gate to the abbey was locked which makes it a great pity, only thing is I still loved it, cheers
Michael G — Google review
We came across St. Mary's Abbey by accident. We were walking around and we found it. It is a very old Abbey. It was the first Church built in Howth. It was founded by Sightrygg, king of Dublin around 1042. Around 1235, the old church was amalgamated with the church on Ireland's Eye and a new church was built - founded by Luke, Archbishop of Dublin on land granted by Sir Almeric St. Lawrence. Little remains of these churches and most of the present abbey dates back to the late 14th Century or early 15th Century. It has some great views of Howth. Restaurants, bars and cafes nearby. It's well worth a visit to see the views of Howth.

A historical site. A serene view of the old ruined church with the modern harbour in the background.

Ye Olde Hurdy Gurdy Museum Of Vintage Radio is a small but remarkable museum located in the Martello Tower in Dublin. The tower itself has historical significance as it was a crucial part of Ireland's early communications network. Inside, visitors can explore Pat Herbert's extensive collection of vintage radios, gramophones, Morse equipment, crystal sets, valve radios, telegrams, and other radio-related objects.
Great collection of radio and old communication equipment from old undersea cables to radio transmitters, old telephone and TV stuff, definetely worth the visit! Friendly volunteers running this place and need our support. 73 from Greece!
Gegounaris — Google review
Small but very informative museum on the history of radio and recorded audio. The tour guide was very friendly and obviously passionate about what he was talking about. The items on display were more than what I was expecting and there is a lot of cool history here. The location was also very scenic and the building was cool.
Andrew C — Google review
Really nice vintage Radio Museum. The patron gets really excited to share the story of the museum and how it came to existence. Really loved the visit and I would recommend every visitor in Howt to go there.
Elmar T — Google review
Wonderful quirky museum especially of interest to those in the tech industry - from this Martello tower first messages using Morse Code up through radios, transistors & early black & white and colour TVs. Peter is a mine of information.
Una H — Google review
On my first domestic vacation in east Ireland last summer (I surprised by the fact, that they have - keep old radios since the 17 century or so (I don't remember now), + TV's. The guide guy who showed me all these amazing stuff, (God bless him for his courage). He really told me for stuff, where, as south EU citizen. Is hard enough to recall in my memory. Despite the fact, that, everything I have hear so far. Is through documentaries or movies! When, I first saw that building, I thought directly that is some abandonment Castle (but the surprise strike me like lightening after I read the sign, that is museum!!). They did, and keep doing a pretty good job over there, by keeping the Irish history and European - American history alive, for the generations to come. The knowledge of history both people (guide guys) they have, must not allow to die!
Andreas B — Google review
Lovely piece of history showcasing all the old vintage radios and communication equipment from the early 1900s onwards. Thanks to pat and the team for an enjoyable tour. They are a wealth of information. Museum located on a spectacular hill with views of howth village and north Dublin city
Simon C — Google review
The trip to the vintage museum was a great family outing. The museum is located in the beautiful Martello tower and it was very easy to find our way from the Dart. Our tour guide and fellow radio enthusiast, Reg, took the time to explain the history behind the Martello tower, the beautiful vintage radios (each item in the collection was worth the time), and chat about other radio interests. Reg gave us direction to a local chipper and we are really glad that we did. It is well worth another trip in the future.

The National Transport Museum, located near Howth Castle, offers a fascinating journey through Ireland's transportation history. Visitors can explore vintage buses, commercial trucks, military vehicles dating from the 1880s to the 1980s, and even an electric tram that operated in the town during the 20th century. The museum is run by passionate volunteers and provides an educational experience for both adults and children. It's a great way to spend time with family while learning about Ireland's rich transport heritage.
Can’t praise these volunteers enough for the wonderful work they do at The National Transplant Museum. Fascinating to see the old buses on display and so obviously lovingly cared for. These guys deserve so much credit. It’s a real trip down memory lane and so much worth visiting.
Gerard K — Google review
Several old buses, trams, fire engines etc crammed into a small shed. Not much space between each vehicle, it's more like a private collection than a museum. You will only spend about 10 to 15 mins here and you'll see everything.
Kieran F — Google review
We loved old vehicles here, my boys and myself are huge fans of retro cars, and this was like a heaven for admirers like ourselves. I wish they had more place here though; we couldn’t get close to some of the vehicles here, everything’s so packed. This place definitely deserves more attention and care.
Olga P — Google review
Lovely museum with many vehicles, interesting visit for anyone who likes this sort of stuff. Bit cramped though.
Niko — Google review
Visited the place on 30/4/23 . The museum is situated near to howth castle . This museum is purely based on the transport facilities used by public in olden days . There are different old models of vehicles which are used in wars and military purpose ,types of old fire force vehicles, school vans , ambulances, trams ,lorries, etc . Which are preserved for new generation to know about our history. Fares are different for age groups ( in Google it's written as free entry ). Opening on weekends and holidays between 2-5. Place is good for crazy antique vehicle lovers . Suggestion- the vehicles are not kept in an order .if it is arranged in a proper order everyone will love it .( Now it's look like a garage ) These vehicles has to be preserved properly because it's history.
Rijo T — Google review
They do their best. It would be great if some day it could be expanded to have more space between the vehicles, but I understand that they have limited funding. I have gone three times over the years with my son who is now 9 years old. And I think it's really interesting to see the old trams and buses from before my time, as well as the green buses from my childhood and teen years. Very nostalgic.
Evan C — Google review
While definitely limited by space, this is a beautiful little museum that is amazing value for a family vist. 10€ for a family ticket is unbeatable. Staffed by volunteers and you can tell there is a lot of ❤️ for the place. Perfect to pop in for an hour and then into Howth village.
Spizz A — Google review
The history is amazing but the place needs maintenance big time. It seems there is no funding. The five stars are for the history behind this place. I hope you get funding you deserve

Aqua Restaurant offers a refined dining experience with large windows providing stunning sea views and a cozy log fire. Located in Howth, overlooking the Portmarnock and Malahide coastlines, this restaurant is known for its fresh seafood, including lobster prepared in various sizes and cooking styles. Situated at the tip of Howth Harbours West Pier, diners can enjoy sweeping views of Dublin Bay while savoring dishes made with daily catches from local fishermen.
Stopped in for lunch. Pretty view. Fantastic food! I had the seared scallops with saffron risotto. Maybe the best risotto I’ve ever had! The scallops were served with their roe intact. I’ve never seen them served that way. They were delicious!

The views are incredible! We ere able to see a seal while we are eating! The food is good. We have ordered fish and chips, hot seafood, whole (the best dish) and the starters squid, oysters and salmon. The desserts are good too. It’s so expensive but all its good.

Highly recommend. The food and service was fantastic. And the view 'over' the water is simply beautiful. We loved it! Note: suggest reservation. We had walked in. And appreciated getting a table. As the restaurant filled up very quickly.

This is a fabulous restaurant which benefits from a panoramic view of the harbour and the bay and enjoys beautiful sunsets. The service is great and the staff are welcoming and friendly. As for the food - the Chowder was all I hoped for and the fish pie superb. You can tell a good restaurant, when the diners are not eating, they are smiling. Would definitely recommend.
Debbie P — Google review
Great view. The staff is very nice and accommodated us without a reservation. A little disappointed with the amount of food but we only ordered two starters, so I guess it was ok. Felt like a fancy restaurant, with good quality but maybe little amount for the price you pay, compared to others we tried.
Icaro — Google review
Great food and attentive service here. Cocktails are also very refreshing. We ordered the chowder, fresh oysters, scampi, sole, and scallops. All very delicious! Best seafood we’ve had in a long time. I only wish the seating was a little better, tables are very close together, too close to kitchen and you can easily hear others conversations so it’s a bit awkward to talk freely.

Seafood restaurant
Octopussy's Seafood Tapas, located in Howth, Dublin, is a must-visit for seafood and Mediterranean cuisine enthusiasts. Owned by three experienced brothers with a background in fishing, the restaurant ensures fresh and expertly prepared seafood dishes. The establishment prides itself on offering tasty and affordable food, making it an ideal spot for lunch. With its fish supplied by a nearby seafood market operating fishing boats out of Howth, the quality of the seafood is top-notch.
I've been in this place many times that the staff already recognize me when I come 😅, and every time, the food has been really good. At first, the tapas looked small, but I found them very filling. The ingredients are fresh and prepared with great quality. The staff is very friendly, I am giving only 4 stars because I usually had to wait long to get a table, but for me, it has been worthy every time.
Saray M — Google review
The best seafood I've ever had! Everything was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were amazing. Definitely worth the wait in line. Highly recommend this place!
Dajana S — Google review
We ordered fish and chips and seafood paella, it was really fresh and tasty. The portion was good, but maybe a little bit more it would be better. When I went they didn't had any beer.
Eugenio C — Google review
Went to the east of Dublin to the Irish Sea for a day trip to see the Port Town of Howth. Octopussy was recommended by the server from Acapulco Mexican restaurant the night before. The appetizer of Dressed Crab on homemade dark bread was great! It was fresh tasting and when the lemon was drizzled on the top made it so good in taste. The scallops in garlic lemon sauce was so fresh and tasty that 5 scallops just did not seem enough. The place was really small but it made up for it in taste and great service!
Tom P — Google review
Location & Access: Situated in the bustling tourist area of Howth, Octopussy’s is right by the seafood market, Howth Market, souvenir shops, and the scenic harbor. The restaurant offers views of the sea, lighthouse, and port, creating a strong maritime vibe. It’s easily accessible by DART (a short walk) and via buses like H3 and 6. Ambience & Space: The indoor dining area is quite small, with tables packed closely together. The strong seafood aroma indoors combined with the limited ventilation makes it less appealing for those sensitive to smells—an improved air conditioning system would help. The outdoor seating, however, offers a much more pleasant experience, featuring wooden benches and an open, breezy feel. Cleanliness: The tables were prepared well with condiments already placed (sea salt, pepper, vinegar), which minimized the need for extra requests. Menu & Pricing: The menu focuses on seafood tapas—mussels, oysters, prawns, calamari, squid, and fish—served in various styles. They also offer soft drinks and a selection of wines that pair well with seafood. Prices were reasonable for a tourist-heavy area. While most items appeared fresh (likely due to high weekend turnover), the food quality was average—nothing particularly unique or standout. A small note: lemon wasn’t served with the mussels by default, which is common elsewhere, so I had to request it. Staff & Service: The staff member serving us was friendly and hardworking, but visibly overwhelmed. She initially forgot our drinks and only brought them after a second request—likely due to being very busy. Despite that, her attitude was kind. Accessibility & Extras: The indoor area isn’t wheelchair accessible due to space constraints, but the outdoor seating area is more suitable and accessible for wheelchair users. Final Thoughts: Octopussy’s is decent for a quick seafood bite in the heart of Howth’s tourist area, especially if you’re sitting outdoors. Don’t expect anything extraordinary, but it works if you’re already exploring the area and want a casual seafood experience with a sea breeze.
Elham H — Google review
The place looks cute, but be prepared to wait—there's always a long line. It's pretty small inside, but luckily we got a spot outside on a sunny day. However, my experience took a dive when I found a worm in my fish halfway through the meal and that’s why I can’t give this place a good rating. I wouldn’t go back.
Flavia A — Google review
Amazing place and food ! With my family we sat outside with the heatings on and the atmosphere was warm. We didn’t except for simple sea food to be presented so nicely and tested delectable .
Natalia G — Google review
Worth the wait to be seated! The food was pretty good: Green salad (3/5 - has an odd sweet dressing) Seafood soup (NOT the chowder - 3/5 - tomatoes base, pretty decent) Oysters (5/5 - huge and very fresh, well worth the price) Dressed crab (3/5 - so so, tasted like crab mixed with ketchup and mayo) Whiskey scallops (5/5 - stellar, fantastically delicious, sauce was perfect) Monkfish, Prawns and Mussels (5/5 - very decadent, not for the faint of heart) Mixed shellfish platter (4/5 well priced for the portion, well seasoned, but very labour intensive to get the shrimp cleaned before you eat them) Lastly, don't be filled by the name, there's no octopus on the menu!

What an absolute treat! King Sitric is so cute and the staff are fantastic. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are large enough to get ready in and not feel cramped. The view: beautiful!! The staff are amazing. Overwhelmingly accommodating. Absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the lovely friendly Francesca who really went out her way for us. She was knowledgeable, chatty, and made us feel totally at ease. Both ladies who we dealt with were lovely, just didn't get the other ladies name, Irish hospitality at it's finest. As for the food, it was so tasty and flavourful and better than other spots in the area. We had crab claws and mussels with brown bread, and couldn't get enough! We shall return, thank you 😊

We went to this restaurant for a birthday meal this evening, so writing this after getting home. The meal we had was delicious, I had heard on the grapevine that it was nice, but the food, the staff and restaurants interior, far exceeded our expectations. The pictures I have taken of some of food, do not do them or the flavours justice. Lovely for couples or small groups, Will definitely go again, and if nearer would be there a lot.

The Pier House Restaurant in Howth, established in 2020, has quickly become a prominent dining spot on the west pier. Specializing in expertly prepared seafood, it offers delightful dishes such as four shucked Achill Island Oysters with chili and ginger dressing and charred ray wing served with browned butter, charred cauliflower, and cockles. Situated at the end of the West Pier, it provides uninterrupted views of the water for a fine dining experience.

The family and I stopped in on a VERY busy Wednesday afternoon towards the end of the lunch rush. Limited outdoor seating on this day, but only because the weather was soon nice! Inside was very cozy and quiet. The fish dishes are so fresh and we didn’t wait long for food to arrive at all! Highly recommend the seafood chowder that is a medley of shellfish and cuts of trout and shrimp. The monkfish tacos were a unique flavor! Finished off with Irish coffees to keep us merry and caffeinated for the rest of the afternoon touring the beach and market area. Service was fantastic! The staff were excellent hosts, friendly, and personable. Zach (our waiter) served us a sample of honeycomb liqueur as a parting blessing for the afternoon. Come here for a lovely meal. You will not be disappointed.

The Brass Monkey Restaurant and Wine Bar is a charming eatery and bar located on the West Pier in Howth, Ireland. It offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere where guests can enjoy European tapas, fresh-caught fish, and meat dishes. The restaurant is known for its bestselling chowder, fish tacos, and cod & chips. Bloody fantastic. We had a tapas lunch with a bottle of picpoul and we sat outside in the sun in January! Sheltered and warm enough to take the coat off. Mediterranean Howth 🤣. Service was friendly and great. Food was fresh and tasty and well cooked. Top choice.

The Brass Monkey Restaurant and Wine Bar hoping for a cozy spot to unwind, and I wasn’t disappointed. I kicked things off with a refreshing sangria that hit just the right balance between fruity and fun a perfect start..For food, I tried the classic fish and chips, the calamar, and the onion soup. The fish and chips and onion soup were definitely crowd pleasers, comforting, tasty, and exactly what I needed after a long day of sightseeing. The calamar, however, didn’t quite make the cut for me; it just wasn’t my cup of tea. What really stood out, though, was the friendly and attentive staff. They made sure I was well taken care of and even recommended some great pairings to go with my meal. If you’re looking for a laid back spot with good vibes and mostly delicious food (sorry, calamar lovers *-* ), The Brass Monkey is worth a visit. Cheers to good food, good drinks, and great service..!

Decided to have lunch on a walk in Howth. We didn't have a booking but the waitress gave us a table which was available. It's a busy enough place. The menu is good and a special menu also. My wife had linguine seafood and I ordered Deluxe chowder. The staff are friendly and didn't take too long for our food to arrive. A small issue with the seafood as it didn't have prawns but this was resolved. I've had better chowders if I'm honest, but this had a lot of quality ingredients but not as much flavour as I'd liked. For both dishes, one coke and a Guinness, the bill came to €56.50. I would try again on another day to sample the other dishes, they also have tapas dishes. it's a nice place.

Just letting you know you overcharged your daily special. Your menu for the stuffed mushroom says 13.50€ but on the receipt it is charged as 15€. Unfortunately did not catch this until I was settling up after the group meal. Otherwise the food was overall flavourful, and delivered quickly despite the full floor. Dining space was loud but well lit. Seats were comfy. Restaurant was accessible to the disabled. Would return if prompted.
